“Blood, blood”. He murmured over and over again.
“I thought you said you knew what you were doing and what you’d be getting yourself into?? Tell me how you are losing control now”.
A voice came out of the wall.
“Father”. He whispered.
Damien gritted his teeth, his body still shaking. “I thought I knew,” he said, his voice hoarse. “But I didn’t… I didn’t know it would be like this. I can’t control it.” He looked down at his hands, now fully transformed into claws. He felt like he was losing himself, his humanity slipping away. “I’m… I’m scared.”
“It’s okay, I’m here,” His father said, his voice gentle and reassuring.
“Just try to calm down. Breathe, and focus on yourself. You have to fight it..”
“This is all that witch’s fault. I won’t spare any of them. Not even hazel”. He growled, glaring at his father.
“Son”.
Damian stared at his father, his chest heaving with anger and fear. “No!” he yelled. “I have to make them pay! They’ve ruined my life!”
His father was unyielding, and he pulled Damian close, looking him in the eye. “Look at yourself, son. Is this what you want to become? An out-of-control monster, filled with hate and violence?” His voice was gentle, but there was an undercurrent of steel. “That’s not who you are.”
“Even your mother won’t want this”.
At the mention of his mother’s name, his Brain cooled like ice.
“Do not bring my mother into this father.”
He was slowly turning back to his normal self.
“Damien.”. His father called.
Damien looked at his father, his eyes full of fury. But then he saw the concern and love in his father’s face, and something shifted within him. He felt the rage start to subside, replaced by a sense of calm. He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.
When he opened his eyes again, his father was smiling at him. “There you are,” he said softly. “That’s my son”
Damien felt his heart swell with gratitude. He had been so lost in his anger, but his father had brought him back.
“Father, mother die because of them”. His voice breaks at the end. Damien’s voice cracked as he spoke,
His father’s expression became sorrowful.
“I know,” he said, his eyes brimming with tears.
“I know how much you loved your mother. I loved her too. And I know you’re hurting, but this isn’t the way to honour her memory. She wouldn’t want you to become a monster.”
Damian’s eyes filled with tears as well, and he looked down at his hands, still shaking with rage. “I know,” he said. “But it’s so hard to let go of the anger.”
“It’s been so long son, just let go”.
“No”. He yelled, yanking his father’s hands away from his body.
“I don’t care whether I become a monster. But I won’t never ever let go of this anger and revenge. I won’t rest until I see all of them six feet under. They will beg for death the same way they made my mother did. I won’t even spare the children. I won’t spare any one of them.”.
“Damien, why are you doing this to yourself? Do you think I wasn’t hurt by my wife’s death?”. His father asked, his voice was still calm and steady.
“If you were hurt then you won’t be friends with hazel now”.
“She helped us”.
“She helped you!!”. Damien yelled back.
“If she wanted to help she would have helped my mother back them but instead she was part of my mother’s death”.
“Hazel had nothing to do with your mother’s death,” his father said yelling, his voice rising in frustration.
“She’s been a good friend and ally to us for years. She’s done nothing but help us. You’re letting your grief and anger blind you to the truth.”
Damien was taken aback by his father’s response, and his anger flared up again. “How can you say that?” he demanded. “She’s a witch, and it was her kind that caused my mother’s death. You know it as well as I do.”
“Damien, you’re wrong,” his father said, his voice firm.
“I don’t care what you say father, but I will surely do what I say I will. You better practise very well in order to protect your hazel, because I won’t be going easy on her.” His voice threaten
His father’s expression turned grim, and he shook his head.
“Damien, please listen to me. I know you’re hurting, and you’re lashing out in anger. But what you’re proposing is wrong, and it will only lead to more suffering, I know you’ve lost your mother, and that you’re struggling with the pain of that loss. But, don’t let your grief turn into hate. Hazel has nothing to do with it. ”
“ANTONY!!!!!”
Damien’s voice boomed, the force of it shattering the mirror and causing the glass to rain down around him. He stood there, breathing heavily, as his anger raged through him. He was consumed by it, and he didn’t know how to contain it. All he knew was that he had to make someone pay for his mother’s death.
His father’s voice cut through the silence, surprisingly calm.
“Damien, listen to me,” he said. “I know how you’re feeling. I understand your grief and your anger. But this isn’t the way to deal with it. This will only create more problems in your life”. He said, trying to convince him, he had been trying for years now but it only seems to get worse every time. His anger kept increasing every time.
“From now on, I will not consider you my father, nor will I call you father again ” Damian said, his words cold and hard.
“And you will not get to see Myla either, because from now on I will be her father and mother and I will not allow you to be part of our lives. You can go ahead and be with Hazel forever” He turned and walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
His father stood there, his heart breaking. He had never expected this from his son, and he didn’t know how to fix it. He had lost his wife, and now he was losing his son.
“Why won’t you understand? Your mother was also the cause of her own death!”.
His father stood there, feeling defeated. He wanted to run after his son, to try to convince him to change his mind. But he knew that wouldn’t work. He had to give his son some time to cool off, and to let the anger subside. He hoped that in time, he would be able to reason with him. Until then, he could only wait and hope for the best.
