Chapter 36

Book:THE BILLIONAIRE'S SURROGATE BABY Published:2024-8-24

I woke up feeling a whirlwind of emotions swirling within me. Today marked the day of my check-up at the hospital, and Rome was there to accompany me.
With the weight of almost nine months of pregnancy resting heavily on my shoulders, the anticipation of meeting the baby I carried as a surrogate mother was both thrilling and nerve-wracking.
As I emerged from the comfort of my bed, Rome was already bustling about in the kitchen, Gettung ready for breakfast, His presence brought a sense of warmth and reassurance to the morning air, and he greeted me with a tender smile, handing me a cup of decaf coffee, a silent understanding of my morning routine. Something I never actually told you guys about.
“Hey, beautiful. Ready for today?” His voice carried a hint of excitement, mirrored in the sparkle of his eyes.
I returned his smile, albeit with a touch of apprehension. “Yeah, I think so. Just a bit nervous.”
Rome approached me, enfolding me in a gentle embrace. “You’re going to be an amazing mother, Phoenix. And I want you to know, I’d love for you to be a part of my child’s life, not just as a surrogate, but as a mother figure.”
His words caught me off guard, my heart fluttering in my chest. I had prepared myself to carry and deliver the baby, only to relinquish it to Rome, I never thought. But this unexpected offer tugged at something deep within me.
“What do you mean?” I inquired, my voice barely above a whisper, my curiosity piqued.
Taking my hand in his, Rome met my gaze with unwavering sincerity. “I know this is a lot to take in, but I want you to be a part of my child’s life. I want you to be His mother, in every sense of the word. You possess qualities of kindness, compassion, and selflessness that I admire. I want my child to have you as a guiding light.”
His words washed over me like a wave, leaving me speechless. The concept of motherhood, unexpectedly extended to me, felt surreal.
“Rome, I… I don’t know what to say,” I stammered, my emotions in tumult.
“Say you’ll think about it,” he urged, his smile tender yet steadfast. “I understand it’s a lot to process, but I promise, we’ll navigate this journey together. We’ll co-parent, and you’ll have an irreplaceable role in our child’s life.”
I nodded, a mixture of wonder and uncertainty swirling within me. Could I truly embrace the role of a mother? Could I be the nurturing presence this child deserved?
As my thoughts wandered back to Rome’s words, the weight of the revelation settled heavily on my shoulders. Me? A mother? It felt surreal, overwhelming, and a little terrifying all at once. I stole a glance at Rome, his focused expression betraying none of the turmoil I was feeling inside. His strong profile against the backdrop of the passing scenery was a sight to behold, and I couldn’t help but marvel at how lucky I was to have him by my side.
Rome, with his chiseled features and warm, brown eyes, was the epitome of charm and kindness. Yet, despite his confident exterior, there was a vulnerability in his gaze that spoke volumes.
I couldn’t help but feel a pang of unworthiness, wondering how I, a mere mortal, had managed to capture the attention of someone as extraordinary as him.
Rome had a way of making me feel cherished and valued, even in the midst of my own insecurities.
Lost in my thoughts, I was jolted back to reality as Rome opened the car door for me with a gallant smile.
His touch sent a shiver down my spine as he gently kissed my knuckles, his lips warm against my skin. With his hand securely holding mine, he guided me out of the car, his presence comforting and reassuring.
“Be careful and watch your step,” he cautioned, his voice tinged with concern, even though his touch provided a sense of stability.
I couldn’t help but admire Rome’s unwavering kindness and thoughtfulness. He was the epitome of a gentleman, always looking out for others.
“I think my back hurts,” I confessed, shooting a glance in his direction.
“I’ll give you the best massage when we get back home,” he offered with a smirk.
“Best massage, huh? I think that might just cause more pain,” I teased, making him chuckle.
“Fine, I’ll give you the regular massage, with a touch of the techniques I’ve learned,” he compromised, a mischievous smirk playing on his lips.
“Oh, Lord,” I murmured, rolling my eyes playfully at his suggestion.
As we stepped into the hospital, the familiar scent of antiseptic greeted us, mingling with the sound of beeping machines in the background.
It was a comforting familiarity amidst the anticipation swirling within me. With Rome by my side, his hand securely holding mine, we made our way to the maternity ward.
Seeing Doctor Phil, we exchanged smiles, and he returned the gesture warmly.
“Good morning,” he greeted us with a smile.
We exchanged pleasantries, and the check-up began.
“So, it’s almost nine months. I just want you to know that you’ll start having contractions very soon. I’m not going to lie to you, it hurts like hell, but everything is going to be okay,” he explained, and I swallowed hard, feeling a mixture of anticipation and anxiety.
My gaze shifted to Rome, who gave me a reassuring smile, his presence a source of comfort in the midst of my nerves.
“Your health is perfect as usual. The next time we meet, it will be here to welcome the baby,” he continued, his words eliciting a surge of joy within me. I looked at Rome, who was beaming with pride and excitement.
“Back to my number one question,” Doctor Phil said, smiling knowingly.
I immediately understood what he was asking, and I glanced at Rome, who smiled in response.
“Yeah, she’s ready to deliver the baby safely,” Rome confirmed, and Doctor Phil’s face lit up with a wide smile.
“Wow, okay, thank goodness,” he exclaimed, his smile never faltering.
I couldn’t help but feel grateful for Doctor Phil’s expertise and support throughout this journey. After Camilla, he was definitely our number two fan.

Upon arriving home, Rome surprised me by offering to give me a massage, a simple yet thoughtful gesture that warmed my heart. With the soothing touch of his hands, he eased the tension from my muscles, allowing me to relax into a state of blissful tranquility.
“Sleep tight,” he whispered tenderly, planting a soft kiss on my forehead. Despite the fact that it was only midday and not yet bedtime, I nestled closer to him, finding comfort in his embrace. After all, it was Saturday, a day reserved for leisure and relaxation, with no obligations tying us down.
As I drifted off into a peaceful slumber, my mind wandered into a realm of dreams. In this reverie, I envisioned the joyous occasion of giving birth, with Rome by my side, his eyes filled with pride and love as we welcomed our precious bundle of joy into the world. The dream enveloped me in a sense of serenity and happiness, filling my heart with warmth and contentment.
Upon awakening, the remnants of my dream lingered, leaving a faint smile lingering on my lips. However, my smile faltered as I realized that Rome was not beside me in bed. Curiosity piqued, I rose from bed, stretching languidly before making my way to the living room.
I couldn’t help but reflect on the fact that Rome seldom slept in his own room, preferring instead to spend the night with me. It was a small yet meaningful gesture that spoke volumes about his affection and devotion.
Upon entering the living room, I was met with the unexpected sight of Jess conversing with Rome. Confusion gnawed at me as I approached them, wondering why she was here. Nevertheless, I stood by Rome’s side, seeking solace in his presence.
Jess’s expression soured upon catching sight of me, but I paid her no heed, focusing instead on Rome. With a gentle touch, I intertwined our fingers, relishing the warmth and familiarity of his hand in mine. Then, with a soft kiss pressed to his lips.
I couldn’t help but smile when I observed Jess’s reaction, feeling a sense of satisfaction wash over me. It was a small victory, but it served as a reminder that Rome was mine and mine alone.
“We were talking,” Jess explained to Rome, her tone defensive. Rome glanced at me briefly before returning his attention to her.
“Okay, continue,” he replied calmly, unfazed by the tension in the air.
“Privately,” Jess insisted, rolling her eyes in exasperation.
“Well, whatever you want to say, you can say it in front of her,” Rome interjected, his words causing a smile to tug at my lips.
“Fine, I’ve come to move in with you, for real,” Jess announced, gesturing towards her belongings piled up at the doorstep.
I couldn’t help but chuckle at her audacity, finding the situation amusing despite the underlying tension.
