Sick Olive

Olive stirred and Wayne sat up immediately beside her on the bed. He looked at her face and exhaled. She was still sleeping. Her face and body were back to normal now and she was breathing normally too. He had undressed and slipped into bed beside her but couldn’t sleep instead kept looking over her like a newborn baby. It had been over a day already yet she wasn’t awake. He had been so worried at first. Terrible thoughts crossed through his mind. If his sister hadn’t been around to assure him Olive was find, he too would have broken the hell down.
‘Is she awake?’ Dolly’s voice came in as if she too saw Olive’s movement.
‘No. Just stirring,’ he answered and laid back. He stared at the ceiling and ruffled his hair.
He remembered how he felt when she was on the floor. Why was he so scared? Why did he think she had died? Why did that even cross his mind? Wayne had a very good hearing ability, better than most werewolves. So why couldn’t he hear her heartbeat? Or was he too scared to hear anything?
This was a very new phase of his life. It seemed Olive was that key to this new phase. The feelings he was getting were just too foreign. He smiled when he remembered Dante Maximo, his friend.
‘You should see me now,’ he mocked himself and chuckled out loud. Olive stirred again and he looked at her. Her eyes moved then fluttered open. They were so dull.
He wanted to sit up immediately and call her. But that would scare her so he just held her arm, careful not to touch the place she was receiving an IV drip from.
“Baby,” he called and she gulped painfully and looked at him. He smiled and touched her face.
“Do you need water?” She nodded so he stepped out of the bed. He took the water Dolly had poured earlier and looked at it.
“This might be contaminated already,” he whispered to himself. So he poured another fresh water for her and helped her sit up. Then he gave it to her in small sips. When she was done, he laid her back gently. She looked at the drip and furrowed her brows. What happened?
“How do you feel, baby?” he asked and caressed her fingers.
“W-weak,” she managed to say.
“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine.” He bent down and kissed her hand. He had brought a stool and was now sitting by the bed.
“What happened? Why am I-”
“You fainted, baby. I found you in front of the elevator. In the receiving room,” Wayne explained.
“God,” she muttered and closed her eyes. She remembered now. How she had cried a lot and eventually fainted. She opened her eyes and saw the look of worry etched on her mate’s face. Then she realized she must have put him through a lot of anxiety. They were mates so this would affect him even if it shouldn’t on normal grounds.
“I’m sorry. I was… I-”
“It’s okay, baby. Don’t worry. You’re fine now,” he mumbled sweetly and gave her a lovely smile. Wayne’s smile was ethereal. He looked like an angel from heaven instead of his usual… devil looks.
“You should smile often, Wayne. You would make me get better quickly with that,” she teased and he smiled even brighter.
“You’re sure you can handle me being smiles all day? It’ll be weird,” he stated and she laughed lowly.
“I can manage,” she answered and he scoffed jokingly.
“I’m hungry, Waynie. Can I get something to eat?”
Wayne was surprised she would be eating already. According to Dolly, she would not be able to eat immediately.
“Sure. I’ll go get some soft food for you. Don’t want you choking,” he said and got on his feet.
“You do realize I’m not human, right?” she asked and he glared at her.
“You will eat soft food until you’re fine,” he said firmly and she nodded.
“Yes, Alpha,” she said and chuckled. He walked out of the room afterwards. He communicated with Dolly that she was awake so Dolly came running in.
“Olive!” she called as soon as she saw her on the bed.
“Hey, Dolly,” she hailed and sat up.
“Thank God you’re fine now. Wayne was worried to death. He turned so pale I got sure I was going to give him an IV too,” she teased as she walked to Olive.
“Tch. Mate bond,” Olive whined and rolled her eyes. Dolly exhaled and sat on the bed.
“I don’t think it’s all mate bond,” she said and Olive’s brows furrowed.
“What do you mean?”
“There is something different about Wayne now. He’s just… different,” revealed Dolly.
“Again, Dolly. What do you mean?”
“He is a bit kind and calm now. The way he treats you, it’s a whole new Wayne. It’s like that darkness in him is fading because you came into his life. Wayne would never care for someone so much that he would be scared to death just because they fainted.”
“Dolly, stop being so daft. It’s called mate bond. Haven’t you seen how nornal males act towards their mates?”
“Normal males, Olive. Wayne isn’t normal,” Dolly said and shook her head. Olive looked at her darkened and gloomy expression.
“Why do I feel like there’s more to this ‘Big Bad Alpha’ thing?”
“There is. There is way more than meets the eye. He’s-” the door opened and Wayne walked in with a smile.
“I got you Deviled eggs,” he announced and allowed a maid to walk inside with a tray.
“Does it look like you?” Olive asked.
“It doesn’t. But at least it’s got Devil in it,” he shrugged and Olive chuckled.
“You have to drink lots of water for this. It’ll be hydrating,” he said as he brought out bottled water for her. He sat on the bed beside her legs and watched as the maid placed the tray on her lap.
“Thank you,” she appreciated.
“Bring her a bowl to wash her hands. I want her eating with her hands,” Wayne mused as he watched her with his knuckles supporting his cheek. And his head in a sideways position. Whenever he looked at her like that, he thought she was amusing. Dolly brought the water and she washed her hands and began to eat. She stained her lips and only then did Wayne move from his watching position. He leaned over and her eyes widened.
“What is it?” she asked. Was he going to kiss her while she ate? He brought his face to hers and she froze. Then he just kissed the side of her lips, licking the piece of egg yolk there.
“Tasty,” he whispered and goosebumps rose on her skin. Her cheeks turned pink.
“Arg! This lovey dovey y’all do!” Dolly complained with an eye roll and stomped out of the room. Olive laughed and continued to eat.
“Am I supposed to eat all of these eggs? Is it healthy?” she asked.
“Have you been reading human health care?” he asked and she pouted.
“Eat up. I want to take you out for some fresh air,” he said and got on his feet. He walked to the dining table and looked back at her.
“Get ready to tell me why you were crying,” he stated in a rather harsh voice.
“What? I… I wasn’t crying,” Olive lied and looked away.
