LYRA POV.
“Finally decided to join us, huh?” Michelle teased, nudging me playfully as we made our way to our next class which is also the last class for today.
I rolled my eyes and headed to my locker to grab my swimming suit. The triplets had always wanted to join the swimming team because of me, but I had always discouraged them from doing so.
Despite their interest, I knew our father would never approve of us choosing swimming over training, especially mine. If he found out, he would probably lock me away for good.
To be honest, I hated training… while I love it when it is with the triplets but training as a whole I hated it…. Or perhaps what I hated more was being a wolf.
Even though the majority of the students here are wolves, when I watch some humans and how they talk about how fun their childhood was.
I hate being a wolf, not because of what I am, but because of the expectations and restrictions that come with it. I long for a normal life, like the humans I see at school, with loving parents and carefree experiences.
Going to parties, getting girly stuff and having everything they ever asked for. I realised I have missed the majority of things in my childhood.
All I do is train and train my butt off, I hardly have any girl clothes or stuff except the ones the triplets have secretly gifted me on special occasions.
Not only did I miss those but I also missed the most important things that makes Child’s childhood….. My parents’ love.
Even though the alpha and Luna tried their best to thier for me but it still wasn’t enough, I’m not being ungrateful but watching the other kids’ parents, dropping their children off at school, kissing them on the cheek, Getting them gifts, attending school parties or PTA. No one was there to do that for me.
The triplets and I went to a separate school when we were kids, so their parents never actually have time to drop us all at the same time or attend my school parties or school functions or PTA.
Even when I get awards, win as the top student in class, no one was there. But who can I blame other than my stupid self for killing my own mother. Other kids came out just fine. Why does my case have to be different?
The only solution I have now is to work as hard as I can, train as much as I can, maybe … just maybe then my father would look at me the same way alpha Isaac looks at his sons. And he would stop seeing me as his mate’s murderer.
“Hey gorgeous”. Jake greeted me, giving me a quick peck on my cheek.
I chuckled.
“I sure hope you don’t get in trouble with that one day”. I warned playingly.
I have told him several times to stop pecking me but no, even before I react he already did and he would run away laughing.
“With the triplets? I doubt that”. He mocked, pulling off his top.
“Why are you taking your clothes off here?
This is a girls locker”. I asked, frowning.
“Please let him”. Michelle said dreamily.
Other girls were giggling as they watched him take off his top, leaving him in his shorts which he mostly uses in swimming.
“I left my things with Michelle, I just want to get it”. He smirks.
“Oh please, just say you love it when girls drool over your body”.
“You ain’t drooling”.
“You ain’t sexy”.
He gasped, placing his hand over his chest, trying to act like he was in pain.
“You just broke my heart”.
“Oh my, you had a heart?”. I asked surprisingly.
“I had no idea, Jake”. I mocked, walking into the bathroom to change.
As I walked into the bathroom, I could hear the girls giggling and Jake’s playful protests. Michelle was probably enjoying the spectacle, and I was sure she had a crush on him. I quickly changed into my swimsuit, trying to ignore the commotion.
When I came out, Jake was still posing in his shorts, looking like a self-absorbed model. The other girls were still gushing over him, and I rolled my eyes.
“Swimming time, enough flirting now Jake”.
“Aw, come on, Lyra! Can’t a guy just show off his skills?” Jake asked, striking a pose.
I chuckled and shook my head. “You’ve been showing off enough, Jake. Let’s get in the pool before Coach blows a whistle.”
Michelle giggled and playfully pushed Jake towards the pool. “Yeah, Jake, save it for the swim meet.”
As we all headed towards the pool, I couldn’t help but notice the way Jake looked at me… he has been looking at me like that for about days now.
But as we started our laps, I realised Jake was swimming right next to me, matching my strokes and pace. And as usual I beat each and everyone I had a lap with.
“Good job, Lyra”. Our coach praised, giving me a pat on the shoulder.
“I will see you guys again tomorrow, have a nice night”. He added before leaving.
“Lyra, lyra.. wait up”. I heard Jake called, running to catch up with me.
“How may I be of help to you, Mr Jake Riley?”. I asked, We were walking out of the pool area, heading towards the locker rooms.
“Well… I was thinking… since you’re so amazing in the water… maybe you could help me with my swimming technique?” Jake asked, his voice laced with a charming smile.
I raised an eyebrow, surprised by his request. “You want me to coach you?”.
Jake nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah, I mean… you’re like a fish in the water, Lyra. I want to be just as good as you are.” He suddenly started moving closer, causing me to move back as I hit my back on the locker.
“Step back if you still love your face”. I warned.
“Come on, don’t be a joy killer. One kiss won’t hurt”. He whispered.
My eyes narrowed, and I growled low in my throat. “Jake, I mean it. Back. Off. Now.”
But Jake just chuckled and kept moving closer, his eyes gleaming with a mischievous light. “Ah, come on……”. Before he could complete his sentence he was suddenly thrown against the wall.
“She said, back off”.
