Your shoes, please. He asked politely.
I slipped out of my heels without question, not having the energy to argue with him any more. It was also quite relieving, considering I had worn them throughout the entire trip. Along with my dress too, which caused a lot of curious stares my way, and some approving ones too. It was worth it seeing Nathan grumbling the whole time, pulling me into his side like an annoyed grizzly bear every time a male eye looked my way.
I hope my feet smell. I spat out, crossing my arms as he bent down to retrieve them.
I heard a chuckle, before he took my hand and started walking again.
Only you would say that Sky. He said in a proud tone.
I was about to tell him some other words only I would say which weren’t too nice, but was cut off once my feet hit soft warm sand.
I let out a small gasp. That meant we were on a beach. I smiled at that.
The rest of the walk was spent in peaceful silence. After about ten minutes, we stopped.
Ready princess ? Nathan whispered in my ear, standing behind me.
I silently nodded, trying to contain my excitement. The whole trip I had been mad at not being told and I thought I’d feel relieved once I finally found out. But now a sense of thrill and adrenaline was pumping through me. He really had managed to make it a surprise. The type of surprise you can’t wait to see because you know you’ll love it.
Nathan untied the knot behind my head and I sprung open my eyes as soon as the silky fabric slipped down my face.
I let out a big gasp, the sight before me succeeding in surprising me. Okay, exceeding in surprising me.
In front of where we were standing, there was a small path bordered with small stones and pebbles, leading up to an open gazebo with a delicate white table and two chairs. There were dark, silky curtains that had been tied at the posts, looking inviting in front of me. The scene was breathtaking, especially the large blue ocean ahead of it. The sound of soft, gentle waves filled the silent night. The beach stretched out endlessly on both ends and it seemed empty surprisingly. Of course Nathan would manage to empty out a beautiful beach like this for just the two of us.
It’s perfect. I breathed out. To confirm my statement and show how grateful I was and how much I loved his surprise-how much I loved him, I leaned forward and kissed him, slowly, yet passionately.
It wasn’t rushed. It was the kiss that spoke millions of words. It was long, sweet and steady, determining we had all the time in the world. We truly did at this point. We’d made it both so far, and now was the time for celebration, relaxation, and harmony.
I love you. I spoke breathlessly once we pulled away. So, so, so much. I added, before crushing our lips together once more, that familiar spark igniting in me just like every time, before spreading rapidly into a hot fire.
In that moment, I felt love. In every way possible. You don’t just experience it. You feel it coursing through you, exciting you and keeping your heart beating fast. You feel alive, whole, and well-found. Even if it meant risking heartbreak or hurt, love is worth feeling all these things, because if it’s true, it surpasses any negative thoughts or feelings. Love is beyond all, and I loved Nathan beyond anything.
I hadn’t believed in it before, but these emotions of pure elation and love were living breathing proof. He was my one and only, true love.
I can’t eat anymore. I said, pushing my now empty plate forward and leaning back in my chair. I watched with a small smile as Nathan stuffed another bite of lobster in his mouth and kept eating like there was no tomorrow.
But there’s dessert after. Nathan pouted at me, finishing up and wiping his mouth with a handkerchief as if he were a true gentlemen.
I chuckled. I’ll just have it to go. I grinned as he finished off his meal and leaned forward on the small table between us, a single candle glowing in the middle of it.
I thought these things only happened in the movies. But I was yet again, proven wrong by the guy sat in front of me. If there was such a thing of the most romantic dinner ever, this would be it.
Nathan had made this special night my most favorite, and one I would never forget. He had somehow managed to privately book the entire beach for the night, and had told me the surprise wasn’t over just yet.
The tranquil, lovely atmosphere was suddenly interrupted as a recurring thought suddenly came up.
I looked over at Nathan, who had been silently studying me the whole time with a soft smile on his face. The crazy part was, I still got butterflies at that.
I debated even bringing it up, seeing as how beautiful and magical he had made this night for me. But I knew it was important and I needed to know.
Hey, you never told me what you were doing in Europe for three months. I stated.
Nathan’s eyes widened in surprise, before he sighed and ran a hand through his hair. I was planning to tell you that later. He mumbled, biting his lip and looking down at the table.
I leaned forward and grabbed his hands, causing his eyes to snap up back to mine. Sorry, I just kind of blurted my thoughts. It’s been bugging me for a while now. Three months to be exact. But you don’t have to tell me right now. I added with a small smile. As much as it killed me to be left in the dark, I didn’t want to spoil this amazing night. He had done all this for me. I should just shut up and be grateful instead of putting him in the hot seat with my questions. Sorry if I ruined the mood. I said sheepishly.
He offered me a small smile, before standing up and holding out a hand.
I wordlessly took it and stood up with him, ignoring the pang of hurt that he wouldn’t tell me.
But once again, he proved me wrong as we started to walk barefoot alongside the shore. I still had my poofy dress on, but at least my feet weren’t killing me.
When we finally got away from Ryland, my love for you only grew. He started off with a small smile, looking down at the sand as we walked. I didn’t want to leave your side once it was all over. After what you had done for me, I wanted to make sure you’d be the happiest girl on earth. I wanted to take care of you, treat you the way you deserved to be treated. I wanted you to move in with me, start a life together, maybe even get a cat. He looked over at me with a smirk and I could hear my heart thudding erratically.
