In a room in an orphanage,
A black-haired woman looked asleep and was already lying on the bed. She was not alone, for there were two other people there. They seemed to stare at the bed with a feeling of sadness mixed with pity. The atmosphere in the room was quiet because no one had started a conversation at all.
“How did that happen, Madame Loiston?” asked the woman in the white dress softly.
The name’s owner also turned to the person who had just asked her. A grey-eyed woman was gazing at her. A woman who had worked in the orphanage for seven years seemed annoyed, so the interlocutor realized this, whose expression looked guilty.
“The ordinary people who did not experience it firsthand would not believe it. I told you before asking for help, but you keep asking again. If I lied to you, then who is the person that sleeps in that bed, anyway? Is she a ghost in your eyes?” replied Loiston, half sarcastically.
That plump woman’s cheeks turned red, and did not dare to say anything. Meanwhile, Laveyny Aufrodine’s co-worker and best friend preferred to remain silent. Now, Loiston turned her gaze to the twenty-six-year-old girl who was still asleep. There were bruises on her head because of falling from the floor, which was got after the Goddess of Witchcraft left the office of the head of the orphanage.
The situation became awkward because the red-haired woman still remained silent and seemed to avoid eye contact with the other person. “I am sorry, Madame. I did not mean that.”
Loiston, who heard those words, remained silent for a moment. She exhaled heavily, while still paying attention to the girl with thin eyebrows whose face still looked pale, and was injured by her own words that said she wanted to kill Alexa, so the Goddess Magia became angry.
“Keep your mouth shut from everyone, including the children in the orphanage. Do not let anyone know about the real reason why The Principle became what it is today, because we will all be doomed. This is not an ordinary condition that will be happening in Zlatav.”
A woman, who had a height of one hundred and sixty-seven centimetres tall, was stunned. She seemed to digest the words spoken by Ioxinete Loiston. After seven minutes of silence, the silver-haired girl again asked, “What about the baby? Should we do something to her?”
The woman who had freckles on her face, although only a few, sighed again as if she wanted to release the burden that had accumulated in her heart. “We do not have any choice. We will take care of that baby in this orphanage. Goddess Magia will indeed kill me, Aufrodine, and all the children in the orphanage, if we break our promise. You must know Her nature, right?”
That twenty-five-year-old woman nodded. She could not deny what Loiston had said. Both of them were silent, so the room was quiet again and time seemed to linger, though, in reality, it was not. The sun’s rays entered the room, but it was not able to reduce the sadness that was being experienced by Aufrodine’s right hand.
“If it is like this… then sooner or later, the ancient prophecy will definitely happen. If it happened, what would you do, Madame Loiston?” The virgin asked again, but she did this carefully as if she was afraid to offend the woman, who she called by her formal name, ‘Madame’.
“For me, whatever the gods and goddesses have ordained, including the part of the ancient prophecy, it will be happen, even if humans try their best to prevent it. I will not be able to resist the will of the immortal goddess, let alone have read about the history of why the curse was created.” Loiston answered with a heavy heart. She seemed to close he eyes for a moment, then shook her head.
“I already promised Goddess Magia that I and Madame Aufrodine would take care of Her Messenger, so it is too late to back down, because our lives are at stake. Now, you can forget about our conversation and pretend this never happened at all.”
“What?”
A girl who had been a healer for five years was flabbergasted by the last sentence the other person had just spoken. She stared in disbelief as if what he had just heard was an illusion. Loiston turned her attention, then looked at the still confused Ethnia. The twenty-seven-year-old woman seemed to want to swallow him alive.
“Why are you even surprised? You did not hear wrong. Never reveal what happened to Madame Aufrodine. Let’s just pretend our conversation never existed.”
“But”
Before Ethnia could finish her words, the green-eyed woman had already cut her off. “No buts! Would you like us all to die silly at the hands of the Queen of Witches? If yes, then I swear I will kill you first!”
The girl who had a mole on her cheek, as well as on her right nose, felt guilty after hearing those words. The situation again became awkward, as well as tense. Loiston quickly walked to the door, then walked out of the room, leaving the healer with Aufrodine there.
I really can’t understand Ethnia. She was one of the healers, but why were the questions asked so stupidly? I do not want to think about her, and I want to check on Alexa now, thought the pointy-nosed girl.
Not long after, Loiston arrived in front of her room. When she went inside, she found a blonde woman holding a baby. However, her face looked at Alexa. “You are so pretty. May luck and happiness always be with you.”
That baby seemed to understand the woman’s words, so she smiled wittily. They looked happy, so the moment disturbed the owner of the room. Meanwhile, the petite girl did not realize that there was danger lurking.
“Why do you even say that?”
The voice was able to distract the young lady, who was originally joking with the only daughter of the couple, Tristian Varden Writh and Lavena Isolda Keira. She immediately turned in the direction near the door, and there was already standing someone who was so familiar to her. “Pardon me, Madame Loiston. I did not know you already here.”
“You have not answered my question, Menka,” said Loiston coldly.
The blue-eyed girl looked surprised and confused at the same time. Meanwhile, a baby girl who was still in her arms still looked at the face of the person who had been joking with her. Her little hand began to rise, then touched the girl’s left cheek while Loiston observed them.
“I say this, because this baby girl is completely innocent. No one wants to get a dreadful fate while living in this world, including her. I give her my blessing, because she is a human being too.”
“You have no right to do that!” Loiston’s cheeks turned red from holding back the anger that had been holding her back for so long. However, this did not seem to make the other person afraid, so she smiled faintly.
“Of course, I have the right to that, Madame. Have you ever thought, if this baby can choose fate, then she certainly does not want to be the chosen one? If only the goddess did not decide this, then she would live peacefully with her parents. It was not her fault if Goddess Magia wanted Alexa as Her Messenger.”
“You dare to defend that evil baby! Alexa has hurt Madame Aufrodine and you know that for sure!”
“I believe, children, especially those who are still babies, do not know evil, let alone do evil. If, when they grow up, they even do this, then I am sure there is adult intervention. They learn from imitating people. This baby is not evil. She is innocent. I am sure that Goddess Magia is taking care of her definitely will not stay silent, if someone wants to do something bad to her.”
Right after saying these words, the beautiful baby burst into tears, thus stopping the argument between them. Loiston felt guilty, but she did not want to admit it because of a deep sense of prestige inside her. But different things happened with the beautiful girl who had been holding Alexa with great affection.
“Pretty Girl, do not cry. You must be a good girl in the future. Even though many people will hate you because of your status, but it is okay. I pray that you will be strong and healthy.” The girl, who had a height of one hundred and sixty-four centimetres tall, said softly, patting Alexa’s buttocks gently. She even ignored Loiston’s presence.
That baby’s crying stopped. She seemed comfortable being treated that way. Meanwhile, Loiston, who had been observing this action, seemed to be at a loss for words, and there was resentment in her heart about the other person who always answered her every word. “That woman has always dared to fight me. I have to find out a way, so I can get Menka out of this orphanage,” she muttered, full of vengeance.
