“You are putting on quite a show just for a fake wedding” Cael said as Cade walked into the house.
“What do you mean fake wedding? I am getting married there is nothing fake about that” Cade said trying to avoid the conversation.
“I am just concerned about you, can’t I be concerned?” Cael asked with a smirk on the corner of his lips.
Cade took a deep breath to steady himself, he hated that his grandfather had asked him to come home knowing fully well that everyone in that house hated him too much to want to keep him alive.
“And why do you care?” Cade responded. After the words left his mouth he regretted not ignoring him and just going to bed, Now Cael had full rights to engage him in conversation and try his best to test his patience.
“I have to care little brother” he said with a lot of emphasis on the word brother.
“What a wonder?” Cade said now that the ball was set rolling there was no way he would be backing down. He had to go all out in the conversation and make sure not to walk away from whatever it was that would transpire between them feeling like a loser. For every right reason he had to win or at least feel better than he thought now.
“What is a wonder?” Cael asked. He was pissed that Cade was able to agree so easily to their grandfather’s terms. If Charles had not been able to find one out of his grandchildren who was willing to do as he pleased he would have changed his terms and maybe Cael would have had a better chance at getting the company.
Charles was such a man with a big ego, there was no way he would let the company he had toiled so much to build fall into the hands of some stranger. He had to by all means keep the company in the family, Cael was that he would have ended his tricks and just left the company to him later since he was the eldest but Cade had to destroy everything for him.
“That you refer to me as your brother, I thought you hated me?” Cade asked.
“I do hate you, with everything within me” Cael said in a low tone as if he was revealing a grand secret to him.
Cade chuckled and slipped his hand through his pocket taking a step forward till he was standing in front of him, he raised his head so he was in direct eye contact with his brother. “Maybe if you were busy doing something useful you would not have the energy or time to hate me”
Cade took a step back and turned on his heels with his brother screaming swear words at him. He stopped midway and turned to him. “There now don’t be a pain, everyone is resting after working hard today, it would be a shame if you woke them all up,” he said and then was out of sight as quickly as he could be.
Cade took a deep sigh of relief, he knew why his brother hated him so much and they could owe it all to their mother Abigail. Well to Cael’s mother. It seemed to be a kind of pandemic and situation with rich men where they always tried to see if cheating on their wives was possible and then they get a random woman who can not be welcomed to the family pregnant and then that child suffers because of the mistakes their parents made.
Abigail always made sure that Cade never forgot that he was an illegitimate child and not worthy to be called a Vale. Charles however developed great interest and pleasure in Cade when he was only six years of age and already solving questions that nine-year-olds should do.
He was sure that someone as intelligent as Cade would be the perfect Chairman material and so he gave everything he had trying to teach him to take over. Charles only let his other grandchildren come to him because he wanted to seem impartial. He had already made up his mind from the start, Cade was his successor and that was final.
Abigail tried all the crooks in the book to get rid of Cade but Charles was protecting him so strongly, it was difficult to do the boy harm. Cael grew to hate his brother because he was always compared to him and told to buckle up. Cael was what one would call a blockhead. He could not be smart to save his own life and Charles had no intention of leaving the company to him.
Cade sat on his bed his mind wandering around, would his life be different if his father and mother still lived? Cade’s mother died shortly after childbirth and Charles being the businessman he was did not see the need to have Cade’s identity splattered over the news, it was not going to do them any good so he locked up the story he was not born in wedlock and no one dared to defy him for any reason.
Cade’s train of thought was disrupted by the vibrating of his phone, he took it off the bedstand and looked at it, it was a text from Ophelia. His heart skipped a beat as he wondered what she wanted.
We need to plan an engagement.
Cade stared down at his phone. He was going to marry her alright but was she not getting ahead of herself?
“What do I mean getting ahead of herself?” He asked himself staring at the wall ahead of him.
“If we are going to tie the knot, I guess the earlier the better” he continued talking to himself.
He tapped on the phone telling her that they should talk in person later when they meet later. He was tired and needed to rest as soon as he could. He pushed himself off the bed dragging himself to the bathroom.
