A few days passed, I decided to go out again after locking myself in the inn I was renting at.
I had lost my cool. Those simple words hurt me badly.
There seemed to be thousands of arrows had pricked my heart when I kept it recalling Valerian’s words inside my head.
“I hope I do not get to see him…” It was strange that he was here.
A few days after I arrived, Valerian and I were supposed to meet there in the Solacia. It should be like our second meeting there but… why did we meet here in the Calaren?
Was the Moon Goddess like to play antics on me? That was it? Why was his agenda here in this town when that was not supposed to happen?
I did not know what was happening, but this gave me goosebumps.
To distract myself, I was far from the borders of the Sunset Crown pack with a monocular in my hands to count the pack warriors guarding each wing of the borders of this pack. After a careful investigation, tonight was the night I was going to secretly infiltrate this pack to confirm and see for myself about the person I had been looking for.
This time, I was certain of what I must do once I found him.
I would make sure that he would be under my protection. He was there before I had my last breath. Even though that man was a creep, my last memory of him was surprising.
I even had to write down the things I remembered about him since my memory was slipping away.
It was as if that man was starting to disappear, as if he did not exist in this timeline I was at.
Or perhaps, this was my fault that he was the person I did not wish to remember since he had done nothing wrong.
“Infiltrating this pack might alert the Alpha…” I muttered, stroking my chin.
The Alpha of the Sunset Crown pack was Carlos Lorenzo. The next successor of this pack was no other than his son, Gavin Lorenzo. The name I had been looking for was not here, or perhaps, that rogue Alpha used a different name or was named by Britanny by that time. Because I couldn’t sit right that his name was Gavin. It was… making me uneasy. That was not his name.
If what I could perceive was Gavin was the person I was looking for, then I must do what it took to protect him and the others that Britanny would infiltrate their pack in the future.
In conclusion, I decided not to continue my agenda today and went to a tavern to grab something to drink. I was slightly frustrated since I had been distracted for the past few days because of Valerian’s words.
Also, I was too emotional, but there was nothing I could do. I was badly hurt by it.
I chugged the whole beer mug and heaved a sigh to release my frustration while enjoying the soft melodious sound of the musicians playing on the platform.
The ambiance of the tavern was filled with laughter and slight tranquility. The surroundings were surrounded by the smell of tobacco-seductive, sweet, and smoky vanilla-like. The ceiling had a few wooden chandeliers hanging with lots of candles being lit up to serve as a light to this place. There were even some lamps affixed to the walls.
“Give me one,” I told the innkeeper.
“As you wish, my lady.” He bestowed me another one before he looked at me with an amusing expression when he saw that I had already consumed five mugs.
If this man only knew that Papa trained us to drink liquors in our household to escalate our alcohol tolerance. We even consumed many different poisons and learned to outlive them to grow tolerance if our enemies decided to use a method to finish us off.
“The Alpha from the south has been slaughtered this dawn.” I glanced at the man who had just arrived, panting as he sat beside me after telling everyone the news.
“This time, from the south?” one of the patrons of this tavern asked in disbelief.
“Yes! The royal knights and the royal military have been restless since five Alphas have been killed in the past three months!” the man beside me exclaimed.
I quietly chugged down the beer I was drinking while listening to their conversations. My ears were on them.
Five deceased Alphas for the past three months meant Papa dispatched five of his children to infiltrate five packs.
We were given a grace period to study how an Alpha ran the pack before we began massacring the pack and slaughtering the Alpha. Then we would study how tight the security was and how we could break their perfect system.
Normally, we were given 90 days as a grace period before we attacked. The Alpha slayers dispatched within three months by Papa and said five Alphas were killed were Natasha, Jethro, Ismael, Arthur, and me.
I was the last person who had bestowed a mission that had been bestowed on me a month ago. I only observed the Dusk Moon pack for 15 days before I infiltrated their pack and began the task I was told to do.
“Those Alpha slayers are trying to wreak havoc in the whole kingdom!” I glanced at the man who chugged down the ale before he faced everyone. “I heard that Alpha King Helio announced a general assembly by the end of this month. However, it is a secret gathering, and the place is unknown.”
I almost made a sound when I remembered that in the past.
That secret gathering of all of the Alphas in a certain place was not actually to be hosted by our Alpha King Helio. The leader of this gathering was no other than his son, who was the first in line to inherit his throne. He was the Crown Prince of our kingdom named Henricus la Chandelier.
His father was a useless Alpha King who poorly led his kingdom near to its vain. If it was not because of his first son, it was rumored that His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Henricus, was leading in the shadows.
However, there was no proof of that.
But I knew better since I knew what happened in the past. Valerian told me that the Crown Prince was running the whole kingdom in the shadows while his father enjoyed himself with women and liquor.
In this gathering, they would tighten the measures of their pack. The true leader would reveal himself in that gathering.
Which reminds me… That would certainly bestow me an opportunity to speak to Crown Prince Henricus.
That was right!
“What are you going to do while their assembly is by the end of the month?” one of the people asked, worried. “My family and I are frightened that they might attack our pack next. We did not want our Alpha to be killed as well.”
I glanced at that person. The look of petrified was evident on his face.
If from the past, I never showed an ounce of emotion seeing that kind of expression, and I was gratified seeing that. Right now, that terror look will forever be engraved in my mind when I realize I can feel sympathy.
Worry not… I should end our tradition soon. I would end this as soon as possible so no people could fret about them.
“You must now return to your homes so you can be with your family and tighten the security of your pack.”
I stilled upon hearing that familiar baritone voice. I held my breath when the person I did not want to see at the moment came to enter the tavern with an earnest expression.
It was no other than the love of my life… Valerian Leveaux.
He was here again… at an unexpected time.
