“Ah, this? I don’t know. But since they put it around my wrist, I couldn’t use my powers,” Maria said.
“You can’t be serious! You’ve had this around your wrist for almost a day and you knew nothing about it, yet you didn’t say anything about it. How dumb could you get, Maria?” Audrey was frustrated.
“This is a power inhibitor, Maria, that’s why you couldn’t use your power,” Audrey informed.
“Oh, I see,” Maria said.
Audrey rolled her eyes, “Unlocked,” Audrey said and the locked bracelet clicked, falling into Maria’s lap.
“Wow, thanks, cuz. What would I do without you?” Maria asked, hugging Audrey.
“Get off me you witch,” Audrey pushed her away.
Sandra chuckled and stood from the chair.
“So…” She lowered herself beside Maria on the bed.
“What’s your supper power?” Sandra was curious to know since she couldn’t see Audrey use her powers, she was curious to know how a witch worked.
“I’m a healer,” Maria said.
“Awesome, so, like, ouch!” Sandra brought out her claw and scratched her arm.
“So, you can heal… Wow! No shit!” Sandra exclaimed as Maria covered her scratch with her palm, and when she removed it, the skin was glowing like never before, even the blood stains were gone.
“Yeah, I can heal you,” Maria said with a smile.
“This is awesome; I know we wolves heal fast, but damn! Not as fast as this!” Sandra was excited.
“Hey, enough showing off, help us think of how to save you from that monster of an Alpha,” Audrey said, interrupting their chat.
“I know!” Sandra suddenly exclaimed.
“What?” Audrey turned to her friend, waiting and hoping it wouldn’t be one of her not-so-helpful ideas.
“She’s a healer!” Sandra said.
“Yeah, she’s a healer… so?” Audrey was losing her patience.
“Damn it, we can tell him she healed your ‘wound’ and in return we have to spare her life,” Sandra explained.
Audrey thought about it for a while before nodding.
“That makes sense. I wouldn’t have to pretend anymore and she gets to stay with me till I’ve figured everything out,” Audrey narrated.
“Exactly my point,” Sandra smirked, proud of herself.
“You’re so awesome, Sandy,” Maria gave Sandra a thumbs up, smiling.
“I know,” Sandra winked at her.
“Shut up,” Audrey mumbled, rubbing her temple, she knew she was going to get more headaches from Sandra and Maria. She had to brace herself.
“They’re back,” Audrey said.
“I don’t hear them,” Sandra said.
“You won’t, you’re not an Alpha wolf,” Maria teased.
“Ouch!” Sandra put her hands on her chest, faking hurt.
“They’re still in the forest, but close enough for me to feel and hear them,” Audrey stood from bed.
“Awesome,” Sandra said I’m awe.
“Where are you going?” Maria asked, standing as well.
“Let’s go, he won’t hurt you if you’re with me, trust me,” Audrey assured.
“Okay,” Maria replied.
“Mama, could she sleep with you today? Till I’m able to convince him that she’s harmless,” She said to Ms. Bridget, who was quietly sitting by the side of the table the whole time.
“Yes-”
“Stay with me! My home is not far from the Packhouse,” Sandra offered instantly.
Everyone turned to her, looking at her suspiciously.
“I mean… you don’t have to bother Mama, and you’ll be more comfortable at my place…” Sandra explained.
They didn’t believe her, they knew her reasons.
“Fine! Ugh! I’m bored, I need a new friend since Audrey is too busy for me these days,” Sandra groaned.
“He-he-he! I’d love to,” Maria grinned like a fool.
She couldn’t wait to explore the wolf’s territory with her new friend.
Audrey and Ms. Bridget exchanged knowing looks.
“See you soon,” Sandra stood beside the door waving at Audrey and Maria as they left the servants’s quarters.
“Wow, his place is awesome, look at all those fancy-”
“Don’t touch them,” Audrey slapped Maria’s hand away, reaching to touch the sophisticated painting that was hanging on the wall.
“Ouch! Possessive much?” Maria asked, petting her hand that had just been slapped.
“Nonsense, I just don’t want your scent all over his stuff. It’ll piss him off more,” Audrey said.
They went into her room and Audrey gave her a dress to wear.
“Shower’s over there,” Audrey said, pointing in the direction of the bathroom.
“I’ll take a shower first,” Maria took her clothes with the new towel she found in Audrey’s wardrobe and went into the bathroom.
“Mm,” Audre replied.
She went over to the mirror and pulled her shirt up, removing the gauze that was plastered on her tummy for the fake wound.
She threw it into the waste bin and sighed in relief. End of pretense.
“I’m done!” Maria appeared from the bathroom, swirling around in her blue low-back dress. Her black hair was in a messy bun.
“You look beautiful,” Audrey said.
“Hah! You said it, don’t deny it later!” Maria snapped her fingers in front of Audrey, pointing her index finger at her.
“No, I meant, you looked like Miranda, and Miranda is beautiful, so you just reminded me of her… I was complimenting her, not you, ugly witch,” Audrey denied.
“Yeah… I believe you,” Maria folded her arms on her chest, nodding her head at Audrey.
Audrey heard the footsteps approach from downstairs and motioned for Maria to keep quiet.
“Stay here, do not come out until I say so,” Audrey said quietly.
Maria nodded her head in understanding and went over to the bed to sit and wait.
Audrey exhaled and walked toward the door.
She was waiting in the living room when the door finally opened.
Alpha Lake walked into his house and paused.
They had thought the witch had escaped, but it turns out, that someone had decided that his house was a better hideout, and he knew who that someone might be.
“What is she doing in my house?” Alpha Lake asked.
He moved toward the stairs, not sparing Audrey a glance.
“Wait! Um, let’s have a chat?” Audrey blocked his path, preventing him from climbing the stairs.
Audrey put her hands up in front of her, making sure not to touch his naked chest.
The only clothes he had on were red shorts, his clothes must have torn when he changed into his wolf.
Alpha Lake looked at Audrey with narrowed eyes.
He had suspected something since yesterday in the forest, and now he felt it again from her; the protectiveness he felt from Audrey was like that of a mother to her cub.
“You want to talk to me now?” Alpha Lake asked with a raised brow.
“You’ve been avoiding me since morning and all of a sudden, you’re dying to talk to me? Move, Catherine, I don’t want to hurt you, you’re wounded,” He said and made to move to the other side.
A light bulb came on in Audrey’s mind. How could she forget?
“Look!” She pulled up her shirt for him to see.
“She healed me, she’s a healer, she’s not harmful… She’s not a dark witch, she’s not your enemy,” Audrey said confidently.
“It’s gone,” Alpha Lake raised his hand to Audrey’s tummy, touching her smooth toned tummy.
“Yeah, no pain whatsoever,” Audrey replied.
“Mm, and no scars,” Alpha Lake.
He caressed the place the wound was supposed to be and moved his hand around her tummy, he suddenly sneaked the hand behind Audrey’s waist, drawing her into himself.
“I know she’s not the enemy, but she’s a witch. She’s not allowed here,” Alpha Lake whispered into her ears.
“Well, s-she helped me; maybe we can let her stay for a while, then she can leave,” Audrey pleaded, placing her hands on his chest as a barrier.
“We?” Alpha Lake asked, smirking.
“So, we’re an item?” He asked seductively.
“That’s not what I meant, I wasn’t just trying to say-”
“How about we continue where we left yesterday?” Alpha Lake sneaked his hand down Audrey’s ass and grabbed it firmly.
“I don’t think-”
“You want her to stay?” He asked.
“Yes,” Audrey nodded.
“Then do as I say, Kitten,” He said and lifted her into his arms, carrying her into his room.
Audrey wanted to resist but she remembered she was doing this for her cousin. She needed her here.
Alpha Lake gently placed her down in front of his bed.
He stared down at her, loving the way she blushed easily at his touch.
“Hey,” He hooked his finger under her chin, raising her face, looking into her beautiful green eyes.
Audrey stared into his mysterious grey eyes, She slowly raised her hand to his face, surprised when he closed his eyes at his touch, rubbing his cheek on her palm like a kitten.
“Why are you doing this?” Audrey asked.
He didn’t reply, instead, he hugged her and buried his face in her neck.
“The full moon is close, we should stop this,” Audrey said, not making any move to push him away.
“Why?” Was the only thing he asked.
“I’m not your mate, you’ll find her soon, then what happens to me?” She said, sounding like she was trying to convince herself instead.
Alpha Lake finally moved away from her, holding her face in his hands.
“What if you were?” He asked, looking seriously into her eyes.
