Sandra came in that morning to ‘help’ Audrey get ready for the day.
“So, you’re saying that Alpha Lake has a human brother?” Sandra asked with a deep frown as she fixed her hair in front of Audrey’s mirror.
She couldn’t understand how that was possible. For as long as she could remember, Alpha Lake never had any siblings, no less a human sibling.
“Mm, I’m just as confused as you are. But I’m determined to find out,” Audrey said as she pulled her grey baggy shirt over her head.
She walked over to Sandra and handed her a hairband, turning her back and lowering herself in front of Sandra so she could be able to pack her hair into a pony.
“Ugh, he’s such a hypocrite,” Sandra rolled her eyes.
“Yeah… He is,” Audrey nodded.
“But, what kind of person is he? He treated you so badly then, partly because he thought you were just a normal human. Meanwhile, he had a human brother hidden somewhere,” Sandra complained.
“Which of his parents owns him?” Audrey pondered.
“Yeah… it couldn’t be an offspring from both the Alpha and Luna, ah!” Sandra gasped, looking at Audrey through the mirror.
“What?” Audrey asked, staring at her friend expectantly.
“It means that one of them was unfaithful and had an affair with a human, so, to hide the abomination, they sent him far, far away and swore never to mention it to anyone because it wouldn’t look good for their perfect image,” Sandra chirped.
“Yeah, nice storyline, Sandy,” Audrey stood up and examined her hair.
She looked at her friend’s hair and saw how hard she was trying to curl it. She was a natural straight, but she always preferred to curl her hair; she didn’t blame her; it made her face pop out.
“What?! You don’t believe me, right? Fine, we’ll investigate this together, and if I’m right, you’ll take me out to some expensive restaurant, and vice versa,” Sandra dared.
“Deal,” Audrey smirked at her.
“Great! I’ve been wanting to wine and dine like the rich,” Sandra smiled dreamily.
“Here,” Audrey smoothed her hands over Sandra’s hair, loving the shock and happiness she saw on her face.
“Oh my God! How did you do this?! It’s so beautiful and perfect!” Sandra delicately ran her hands through her now wavey curls.
“Thank you!” She turned to Audrey and hugged her.
“Aww, ok, ok, stop being emotional, it’s weird,” Audrey laughed.
“He-he,” Sandra giggled.
“Are they permanent?” Sandra asked expectantly.
“Yes, but you can still style it however you want, straighten it out whenever you want… It’ll curl back in time just like a normal hair would,” Audrey shrugged and walked over to her wardrobe to get her black cargo pants.
“Nah, never straightening it, been straight my whole life,” Sandra said, still standing in front of the mirror admiring her hair.
“Come on, Sandra, we’ll be late,” Audrey said and started walking over to the door.
“Oh, yes,” Sandra took one last look at herself in the mirror and hurried behind Audrey.
Audrey and Sandra walked out of the Packhouse to see wolves hurrying to the hall, Audrey wondered if they were so late, but she knew they weren’t.
She had been pretending to sleep when Alpha Lake left the house, not after knocking on her door, and gave up when she didn’t answer.
She had heard him answering a call from Alpha Sebastian, telling him the meeting would be by 10 O’clock.
So seeing everyone rushing when it was still 8:30 a. m. left her curious as to what was happening.
“Hey, Josephine, what’s happening, why’s everyone rushing in so early?” Sandra asked a girl who was jogging past them.
“The witch,” Was all Josephine said and ran off.
Audrey’s heart leaped.
“Hey! What happened to the witch-hey!”
Audrey grabbed Sandra by the arm and started running towards the hall as well.
“Hey! Hey! Hey! Slow down!” Sandra screamed but Audrey just kept running like they were chased by lions.
“Come on,” Audrey held her hand firmly as she finally reached the hall.
Sandra was trying to catch her breath as she followed Audrey, squeezing her body through the crowd till they reached the front.
“Fuck!” Audrey said as she stared at the stage.
“What?” Sandra asked, following Audrey’s direction of sight.
“Shit! Are they going to…”
“That’s my sister,” Audrey said, not taking her eyes off the stage.
“Holy shit, say what now?” Sandra asked wide-eyed.
She had just learned about her Alpha having a sibling, and now, she’d just been punched in the gut with another information about another mysterious witch-sibling who was currently kneeling with her hands chained behind her and two guards standing behind her with their guns pointed to her head.
“Yeah,” Audrey nodded.
“So, you’re just going to watch her get killed?” Sandra whispered.
“Not on my watch,” Audrey said and brought out her phone to text someone.
“Good morning, everyone,” Everyone quieted down when the powerful voice of their Alpha suddenly spoke from the stage.
Audrey looked up; that was the person she was just about to text; where had he been all this time? Good thing he’s here now.
She needed to talk to him and find out what had gotten over him. Why suddenly decide to kill the girl?
“Oh no, he looks angry,” Sandra whispered to Audrey.
Audrey looked at him as he stood tall and powerful on the stage.
He wore a maroon shirt with four buttons left open, his appealing, sexy chest teasing whoever cared to look, which was probably every woman in that hall; his dark pants were defined by his muscled thighs, his stature intimidating and commanding.
His mood matched his dress, Audrey had noticed that he seemed upset, bitter about something. She wondered what had happened in her absence.
Audrey couldn’t help staring at his handsome face, the cold expression he had on made him even more sexy, and his hair was neatly styled back, like he was going to audition for some Male lead in a play.
“As we all know, a witch crossed our border yesterday, which is very rare, given how tight our security is,” Alpha Lake slowly circled Maria.
His eyes met Audrey and he averted it immediately, his features turning hard.
Audrey saw him avert his eyes from her and couldn’t help wondering why he was acting cold towards her this morning.
She tapped her foot impatiently on the floor as he brought out a gun and pointed it at Maria’s forehead.
She was between a rock and a hard place; how was she supposed to save the situation and save herself, too?
“What’s your name?” Alpha Lake asked Maria.
“Maria,” Maria replied, her voice sounding like she’d been sobbing the whole night.
Audrey clenched her fists in anger.
Sandra gently patted her shoulder, silently holding her back from doing any implicating thing.
“Maria, tell us again why you entered my Pack?” Alpha Lake put his gun below her chin and lifted her face.
“I came for my sister,” Maria said.
She controlled herself from not looking towards Audrey, she knew wolves were very smart, and they’d get the hint in a second.
“Did you all hear that?!” Alpha Lake growled to the crow.
Everyone was scared, their Alpha rarely lost his cool composure, but when he did, it would be a dynamite.
“Yes, Alpha,” They replied fearfully.
“Who could the witch sister?”
“She might be lying, a spy,”
“Why not kill her and get over with it?”
“Silence!” Alpha Lake commanded, the whole place becoming gravely quiet in a second.
Their heads were lowered in fear, no one dared to alter another word.
“Who is she?” Alpha Lake asked Maria but she refused to speak, only shaking her head.
“Who is your sister?” His tone was dark, everyone could feel the deathly aura around him.
Maria still didn’t say a word, she kept her head lowered, not wanting to risk her eyes straying to Audrey.
“Sixty seconds,” Alpha Lake turned to the crowd.
“I give whoever this sister of hers is just sixty seconds to come up here or relax and watch her die,” He strides slowly across Maria.
Audrey’s heart lurched uncontrollably, sixty fucking seconds!
‘Damn you, Lake!’ Audrey cursed internally, racking her brain for any feasible solution that could work in one minute, no… fifty seconds.
“Rogues! Alpha, rogues have been sited in our border!” Andrew rushed in and announced at the entrance, two guard wolves beside him.
The crowd went berserk, everyone was either scared, hyped, confused, and so on. The whole place became chaos as mothers gathered their children into their arms, the capable males were rushing to the door to assemble for war.
“What!” Alpha Lake bellowed.
“We need to guard the border and stop them,” Andrew said, breathing heavily from running.
“Everyone, return to your homes immediately, do not leave it until you’re asked to,” Alpha Lake said and jumped down the stage.
He jammed eyes with Audrey, an unreadable expression on his face, he turned from her and walked away.
“Alpha, please come back safe to me, I’ll be waiting for your return,” Audrey turned to see Adeline holding onto Alpha Lake’s arm.
He gave her a nod and said, “Stay safe,” Before he left with Andrew and the guards.
Men were already waiting for them as they left; without wasting time, they shifted to their wolves and spring into the forest.
Audrey saw a glimpse of his wolf for the first time, he was beautiful.
She looked away to find Adeline giving her a smug look, but she didn’t care; she was more concerned about her sister and not some hopeless bitch.
Audrey looked up and jammed eyes with Maria.
It was at the last moment she fully understood the phrase; saved by the bell.
