It was even more ridiculous this time. She hasn’t admitted yet that she had already fallen in love with him! It was stillborn!
The phone rang again, and it was still Nick. If she wouldn’t answer, she would probably appear on TV. At least she had to know that Nick’s possessiveness would not change! The same with giving her gifts, and the same treatment that she would be special to him. But that was the way it was. Like. Not love.
Veronica thought that once people got over it, that was all. The end.
She picked up the phone and cleared her throat. She was trying not to cry nor sound hoarse before answering. Nick’s low and domineering voice was heard as he asked, “What took you so long to answer the phone?”
“I left my cell phone in the office. I’m very busy.” Veronica sounded casual.
“How long will it take?”
Veronica recognized what he meant and said, “I’m staying at my dad’s place tonight.”
Nick was already on his way to the TV station. He was sitting in the back seat while his cell phone was right next to his ear and his eyebrow was slightly twisted like a thick ink. He asked, “What’s the matter? Are you alright?”
“Well, a little bit.”
“Are you staying there all night or are you coming home?”
Before Veronica could answer, she thought that the “work” was done.
“I used to live there. What’s so strange about that? And I’ve been staying recently in Winter Villa for too long that I rarely lived at my dad’s place. Is there anything wrong with that? I’m just busy, that’s all.”
She hangs up the phone without waiting for Nick to answer her.
After hanging up, Veronica thought whether her reaction was normal? She knew that she was on the run! On second thought, was it all right? After all, she had hung up on Nick like this before.
Nick took his cell phone and his black eyes went deep. Leo sat in the driver’s seat in the station’s underground parking lot in a white Rolls-Royce. Then he saw the black car driving into the parking lot in the rearview mirror! He hurriedly pushed the door open and got out of the car.
The back door also opened. Nick was lazily sitting while his long legs overlapped. The aura of his whole body was daunting!
“What happened today?” Nick Cage asked.
Leo was stupefied by the question and answered, “At noon, Miss Parker went to the hospital and met Mr. Parker’s son, Elton Parker. Elton was driving his car into Miss Parker and Mr. Parker, but he was scared and didn’t really hit him. Mr. Parker fell on his own and suffered a slight injury to his arm. Miss Parker, on the other hand, is totally fine.”
“Why didn’t you say it?” Nick’s face turned cold in an instant. Leo bowed his head and dared not to retort. His mind at that time was focused on the idea that Miss Parker was fine, so there should be no need to say anything else.
“Be smart next time!” Nick was intimidating.
“Yes, sir!” Leo’s legs were weak with fear.
Veronica in the office was talking to Lucy about the cute kids she would be interviewing tomorrow.
“Miss Parker, this is a dragon and Phoenix fetus. I don’t know if it is as bearable as in the picture.” Lucy said. “But I still think the sextuplets who came here before are tolerable! They all look like a little penguin, I want to squeeze their faces.”
Just as she was kneading her face to fantasize, the afterglow in the corner of her eye reflected into the dark shadow and made her turn her face. When she saw who was coming in, she immediately stood upright like a tree trunk.
She stooped down in a hurry and bowed her head. She held her breath and left then closed the door by the way!
Veronica wasn’t surprised to see Nick coming in, but she noticed that his fingers holding the document tightened.
After she hung up the phone, she guessed that there were two possibilities: nothing more than coming or not. Looking at the sudden appearance of Nick and the words she heard a few hours ago, she only felt that the person in front of her was ruthless.
“Scared?” Nick looked at her. The sharpness of her black eyes seemed to penetrate her eyes.
Veronica turned back and looked away. “What are you doing here? I told you I was going to my dad’s place tonight. What do you want now?”
“Do you still want to go after what happened in the hospital?”
Veronica understood what Nick meant, and her brow frowned slightly and looked at him. “Do you have to look after me in order to be satisfied? Leo is my driver, and now he’s on your side?”
Nick raised his eyebrows and she saw how his eyes deepen.
Veronica knew that his emotions were a little too extreme and a little remorseful so she then said, “Why would Elton really hit me? It was just to scare me, right?”
Before the words were finished, her waist was wrapped and her body was affixed to Nick’s tight abdomen. His warm and tickling breathe came to her and stopped when they were both closes at hand.
“Still scared, huh?” Nick’s voice was deep and sexy.
Veronica tried to push him away, but he saved his strength and gave up.
She lowered her eyes and said, “A little.”
“Now tell me, how should I let him meet his death?”
Veronica quickly refused, “No, don’t you dare touch Elton.”
“Why?”
“It’s useful to keep him.”
Nick looked at her with dark eyes. “What if I have to touch him?”
Veronica’s eyes trembled slightly. He once said that no one should hurt her, including him. So, what would he do now that he had her hurt?
She didn’t answer and still struggled to push him. Nick’s other hand clasped the back of her head, and their faces were held closely together. Veronica’s mouth was in danger of being attacked at any time.
“The temper is getting hotter and hotter.” With that, he kissed Veronica’s tiny mouth.
“Well.” Veronica Parker’s eyes trembled like a sulfuric acid flowing through her internal organs. She was trying to suppress the emotions she shouldn’t have felt. Her little hand that fell on his arm stopped him eagerly and said, “Let’s not do it here. This is an office.”
See? She was pretty good at pretending. Pretending to be real.
Nick slightly let go of her lips, then took two more ambiguous and hot bites, “It’s not like I haven’t done it before.”
Veronica was so haunted by him that she was out of breath. Of course, she remembered what Nick did in her office while she was pressed against the window. She even remembered how helpless she was at that time. She sure was ridiculous and she was doing her best to forget it.
If she hadn’t heard Nick’s “truth” and had been mentioned again, she would’ve thought it was a kind of “interest.” How terrible the change of mood was.
“Oh!” The bitten Veronica came to her senses.
“Are you distracted by my kiss, huh?” Nick asked dangerously.
Veronica took a deep breath and pushed him. “Go back to Winter Villa. You can’t just ignore the six children.”
“I’ll take you there with me.”
Veronica didn’t say anything. She knew what Nick meant. He sent it to Tom Parker in person, including his whole family, and they didn’t dare to snub her. Silent, shocked, and awed!
The black Rolls-Royce sent Veronica to the gate of the villa. The servants in the villa, as well as Tom and Clare Parker, came out and stood respectfully in the doorway. Standing next to Clare was Elton, who was unbeatable and dared not to be presumptuous!
The bodyguard came down as was well-trained, but there was no movement in the Rolls-Royce door. The whole body of the car was tinted, including the windows, and there was no image seen inside.
“Don’t.” Both hands of Veronica’s resistance were cut behind her by Nick who was overbearing in her arms and wantonly devoured her little mouth.
“Call me if you need anything.” Nick’s voice was hoarse and restrained.
