She was stopped by Sarah North, “Why are you in such a hurry?”
Veronica Parker looked at her coldly. “What else do I have to do?”
“Veronica, look at us. We are a family. Why are you so rusty? When you see us, you just leave, and those who don’t know us might think you have a grudge.” Sarah said strangely.
“There is no grudge, but we’re not that close, are we?” Veronica asked.
Sarah gritted her teeth and looked at her proudly.
Naturally, in this family, the one who was really in charge was Sarah. Tom Parker was just an accessory.
Not to mention Veronica.
Her only value was the land in the southwest!
“No proximity can cultivate emotional closeness! Do you think that is right?” Sarah looked at her phone and asked, “Who are you talking to?”
“What do you care?”
“I was wondering if Nick Cage called you. Did he break up with you? ”
Tom looked at Veronica sensitively and asked, “Is he looking for you?”
“It’s him, but it’s not about him,” Veronica said.
“We don’t understand what you’re saying,” Sarah said sarcastically.
“It was my children who I had a video call with through Nick’s cell phone. I looked at the children and thought of Isabella, so I cried. What’s the problem?” Veronica looked at Tom.
Tom felt guilty and said hurriedly, “I see. Isabella always took care of the six children when she was alive, and it’s normal for the children to think of her.”
“Even so, I wonder why you’ve been here for so long. Why didn’t Nick come to see you?” Sarah asked. “How about this? You tell Nick that we’d like to invite him over. What do you think?”
Could Veronica not guess what was on her mind when she looked at Sarah?
“Is it difficult? Won’t he agree to such a small request?” Sarah asked.
Veronica took her time. “I don’t want him to come.”
“Why?” Sarah was puzzled.
“I’m afraid of embarrassing him in such a shabby place.” Veronica sneered and left directly.
Sarah turned green. “Look at what she said. I am your wife, or at least her stepmother. Does she know what an elder is? Some things are taught by a son of a bitch but not taught by a mother!”
“Keep your voice down.” Tom lowered his voice.
Sarah didn’t say anything more. She just let Veronica heard her on purpose.
She was just a child who was abandoned and had grown up. What a good thing it could be!
Veronica paused and stopped there to hear every word of Sarah’s words.
Without even thinking about it, she turned around and went straight back to Sarah.
“What’s the matter? You have something to do?” Sarah was not finished yet.
Veronica raised her hand, slapped Sarah in the face, and slapped her mercilessly.
“Ah!” Sarah was so beaten that her head was buzzing, as she was covering her face and looking at Veronica in disbelief. “How dare you hit me? How dare you hit me!”
Tom stood there as he did not expect Veronica would directly hit people, so he did not react for a moment.
Veronica looked at them fearlessly and her back was straight. “I’m sure I’m not a pussy, but I’m sure my mother is a good woman, so don’t swear, do you understand? I don’t care whose wife you are or whether you are an elder or not!”
With that, she turned around and left.
“You!” Sarah pointed to Veronica’s back, shaking with anger.
“This is outrageous!” Tom comforted Sarah, “You wait here. I’ll teach her a lesson now!”
And then he chased after Veronica.
Veronica didn’t go back, but she went somewhere else. When she heard the footsteps coming from behind her, she didn’t have to look back to know who it was.
Tom caught up with her, “Veronica, aren’t you going too far? At least she is your elder! No matter how angry you are, you should restrain yourself a little bit.”
Veronica Parker looked at him without remorse. “I’ve controlled it.”
“You.” Tom Parker was speechless.
“Besides, my slap wasn’t just for me. It’s for you, too.”
“For me?”
“It’s not easy to be a nuisance, isn’t it? You were stared at by your wife like a criminal all the time, and you didn’t even have a chance to catch your breath. You’re either making trouble or she was just scolding you. I’m taking it out for you!”
Tom pushed his glasses when he was poked at the sore spot, and his eyes slid across the ferocious nature behind the lenses.
Veronica turned and looked at him. “Do you want to be pinned down by Sarah North for the rest of your life? Yes, with the future of the southwest, you don’t need to look at anyone’s face. But why do you want that piece of land, even if you threaten me to get it? You still want to extricate yourself from the grievances of the status quo. Dad, at the end of the day, we’re family. Do you really think Elton Parker and Clare Parker will treat you like a real father? I can tell from an outsider that it’s impossible! Just tell me what you want. Is the Nick Cage behind me not as powerful as Sarah? I know that at first, I refused to see you and hated you. But it’s not easy to look at you now, and I’m more or less relieved. Tom looked sadly on his face and looked into the distance. “You’re right. Sarah has a daughter after re-marriage. Only I know how much I have paid in order to gain the trust of the North family. So, after seeing you, I want you to help me. You rejected me, so I can only find Isabella. Veronica, Isabella’s death was an accident. I regret what I did. I would never have done anything like that if I knew she was going to die. I really like her.”
Veronica resisted her dislike and said, “If I didn’t understand you, I wouldn’t say this from the bottom of my heart. Nick and I will definitely help you. Don’t you think you can have a foothold in capital without me?”
“I know that. You must have helped.”
“When the company infiltrates into the capital, you don’t have to persuade Sarah everywhere. I really feel sorry for you. You don’t look like Sarah’s husband, much less like a family. It’s more like you’re counting on someone else.”
When Tom was told of it like this, it was not embarrassing to say, “Let me show you my joke.”
“I’m not laughing at you. I’m trying to help you.”
“Veronica, I know your heart is still partial to Dad. As you said, we are the real father and daughter.”
When Veronica had almost finished speaking, he turned to the topic she really wanted to ask, “Since I’m helping you, shouldn’t you help me, too?”
“What? You said Dad would definitely help you.”
“Who is my real mother?” Veronica looked straight at him with fierce eyes.
Tom didn’t expect her to ask this and said, “Actually, your mother is alive, but she went abroad with a rich man after giving birth to you. That’s why I vented my hatred for her on you in the first place. Now as I’m thinking about it, if it wasn’t for her betrayal, how could I do that to you? How unacceptable it is for a man to be humiliated by his wife.”
Veronica asked excitedly, “Do you have a picture of her? I want to check her out and ask her why she abandoned me and didn’t give me a phone call!”
“Veronica, I’m sorry. I was so heartbroken that I burned all her things, including the pictures. You’d better not ask, as a woman like that is not worth the effort.” Tom said.
