“What do you mean?” Veronica asked her father back, not wanting to address his question.
“Just…” Tom paused as he saw a red mark on Veronica’s neck just above her collar. He could easily tell from a glance how she got the mark and since Veronica came from Nick’s room, he must have done something to her.
“What?” Veronica grew impatient as his father sized her up.
“Nick didn’t look for me?”
“Can’t you see? I took out the wine.” Veronica stated as a matter of fact.
“Why?” Tom asked.
“He refused to drink. This wine must be too cheap for someone like him. He seemed to only drink wines he has in his room.”
“I know that you must be disappointed but I have to tell you that Nick’s connivance to me depends entirely on his mood. We have to be patient.” Veronica explained to Tom who has a disheartened look on his face.
“Don’t be frustrated. We still have hope. He was not just in a good mood.” She added
“He didn’t reveal anything?” Tom immediately kindled his fighting spirit.
“He said he would not let me down so rest assured that we won’t have to wait for too long.”
“That would be great!” Tom exclaimed
Veronica gave her the wine that she brought to Nick a while ago.
“Next time that you send him a wine, make sure it’s a better one. I can take care of the rest.”
“All right, I’ll make sure of that.”
Veronica said nothing and immediately got out of the room.
She bumped into someone on her way out and the familiar scent of cologne hit her nostrils.
Veronica hissed in pain and clutched her arms. She glared at the person. It was none other than Saxon. “Are you blind or something?”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Did I hit you?”
“What do you think? Do you think that I will bump myself to you on purpose?” Veronica said in agitation.
“What’s going on here?” Tom hurriedly came over.
“This person just bumped into me and didn’t even dare to say sorry. Who’s this person anyway?” Veronica could not help to raise her voice.
“He was an employee of our company in Z city head office. They transferred him here.”
“So, you were just a clerk! Where did you get the nerve to be so rude to me? Are you going to be as disrespectful as the servants in the Villa?” She could no longer contain her anger.
Sarah and the others were now looking at the commotion that Veronica caused.
Tom was beyond worried that if the news about Veronica being treated badly would get to Nick, he might become enraged and the consequence of it would definitely be unimaginable.
He hurried to appease her. “He’s an insignificant person, dear. He’s not worthy of your time.”
“But this insignificant person is rather condescending as if I am inferior to him. That should not be tolerated. Care to tell me who ordered you?”
Saxon didn’t say a single word but he looked at her indignantly. He realized that the people in front of him were more difficult to deal with than Sarah North’s family. Before he met Tom’s daughter, he already heard a lot about her in the room so he thought that she would be nicer.
But upon the incident, he realized that they were all the same. They were all vulgar and inconsiderate.
“Nobody ordered me. I stopped over analysing the situation.” Saxon explained himself in a peaceful tone.
“Are you telling the truth or are you just denying it?” Veronica sneered.
“Could you please do me a favor and stop wandering around so I don’t have to see you?” She added.
“Don’t worry. I will let him go back to Z City tomorrow.” Tom said.
Veronica just snorted in response and picked up her shoulder bag.
“Where are you going?” Tom hurriedly asked.
“I am not staying at your place tonight. I’m heading back to Winter Villa.” Veronica nonchalantly answered.
“Alright. You may go.” Tom dismissed.
Veronica left without looking back.
“You have to go back to Z City tomorrow,” Tom said to Saxon.
“I was aware of your request to avoid being seen by her but I am not aware that she would be here in the Capital,” Elton stated in vexation.
“We’ll talk about it when we go back,” Tom said, not wanting further arguments about the matter.
Elton had no choice but to take a swig of wine to appease his bad mood.
Saxon looked in Veronica’s direction and momentarily waited until she’s no longer in sight. He then proceeded to greet some people in the room and left. He was certain that people would care less if he is there or not.
He was aware that Veronica was lying when she said that she would head back to Winter Villa. Saxon knew that it was just a front that Tom and Veronica put up to deceive people. Veronica could no longer go to Winter Villa. She was currently staying at Tom’s place.
Saxon went straight to Veronica and stared at her for a few seconds.
“I knew you did it on purpose.”
“What are you talking about?” Veronica seemed to be puzzled and laughed.
“When you hit me, you wanted to appear rude and vulgar. When your father asked me to stay in Z City, I knew it was you who was hiding at the back of the door in the bar.”
“That is quite impressive of you! I didn’t mean to eavesdrop at the back door. My father’s family is a little arrogant and domineering but you don’t have to thank me. It doesn’t matter.”
What’s your purpose then? Saxon questioned her.
“Don’t think about it. It’s not some sort of a conspiracy theory that needed to be analyzed. Don’t worry. By the way, I have things to do so I need to go.”
Saxon stood still and watched Veronica’s slender figure as she waited in the Subway.
Veronica thought of Saxon as no ordinary employee. He is shrewd and he showed at the bar when they were celebrating so her family must be using him for more important matters.
Tom Parker’s family were still celebrating at the bar when Witt came all of a sudden to approach Tom.
“Mr. Cage wanted to see you.”
“What are you talking about? Mr. Cage wants to see me?” Tom asked again in disbelief.
He was so elated that he had no idea what to do. It only means that Mr. Cage took a fancy on him because of Veronica. The other people inside the bar heard it too and became eager and curious.
“He wanted to see you right away. You must be a person of great importance to him. You are one of the few privileged people.” Witt added.
Sarah came into the room hurriedly. “What can we do for Mr. Cage?”
“I don’t know! It must be something about the piece of land in the Southwest!” Tom said in a proud manner.
“Veronica’s effort to coax Mr. Parker must be working. Now, we have nothing to lose. We can even make a lot of money.”
