Veronica watched as Nick continued to wipe his hands with a cloth as if she’s not even there. “You don’t have to ignore me like this, you know. It was you who insisted for me to stay here a little longer after all.” Nick threw the towel aside and looked at her with deep, dangerous black eyes. He slowly approached her.
She retreated subconsciously, bumping into the adornment shelf next to her. The vase fell off with a loud cracking sound and it broke to pieces.
Veronica looked at the debris on the ground. and asked, “It’s not that expensive, right? Cage said nothing but he was clearly pissed off. Bob, who heard the sound, felt a flesh ache when he saw the broken vase on the ground.
This is one of the few remaining antique vases in the world.
Veronica studied Bob’s face, looking for any hint that will make her feel a little less sorry for what she did.
The air was filled with a terrifying ambiance afterward.
While eating at the table, Veronica took a closer look at Nick’s face. He seemed a bit off after the incident. She knew that she is not the only one who should be held accountable for the incident. If it weren’t for Nick who scared her, the expensive vase should not have fallen off.
She thought if there is a thing that is inexpensive in the Villa. Everything seemed to be high-valued and exorbitant. Veronica Parker walked around the room at night.
She wondered if Peter is already preparing to rest at that time.
She reckoned that it would be better to talk to him on the phone but considered it to be too risky.
Despite having the door closed, it is still not safe for her to make a phone call on her own. After a few moments, she came up with an idea. She would put a glass near the doorknob so if someone twists it on the other side, the glass will fell. That will make her aware if someone would enter the room. Veronica put a glass beside the doorknob as planned and went into the bathroom with her cell phone.
Isabella sat on the sofa tidying up his clothes while Peter was playing on the foam board.
As soon as the cell phone next to it rang, the six little ones who had been playing immediately stopped and diverted their attention towards the phone. The six pairs of eyes shone brightly.
“Mom!” Peter.
“It must be Tom!” Cathy said.
Peter immediately ran to his cell phone with short legs.
Isabella looked at the caller ID and said, “It’s Mom.” She immediately answered the phone call but before she could say hello, Peter immediately shouted with excitement.
“Mom!”
Veronica didn’t expect that she will be able to hear her children at that time. Her heart suddenly softened “Mom is working overtime. I’m sorry if could not be there with you as of now. But Mom will probably go back tomorrow, okay?” She said in a sweet voice.
“Mom.” The six little ones had a shriveled mouth and tears swirled in their eyes.
” We’re good, Mom” Peter assured her. “Mom, we will be obedient.” Cathy held the panda in her arms and fought back tears.
“Mom, we don’t have a problem,” Julie said
“Don’t worry, Mom.” Josh added.
“Mom, we are waiting for you to come back!” Lily cooed
Daniel was holding the bottle and his face was low. “Mom,” he muttered.
Veronica felt agonized to hear her children long for their mother. If it weren’t for Nick, she could stay there longer. But because of her young ones, there is no means of escape for her.
“Mom promises you that if you behave, I will go back tomorrow.” Veronica was never certain, but she’ll do everything that it might take to be with her children again.
“Yes mom, we will behave,” Peter answered.
“Can you tell me what did you do at school today?” Veronica asked, wanting to hear more of their milky voices.
She placed her ears on the phone and heard Peter said, “Mom, I ate carrots today!”
“Well, Peter that’s great!” Veronica Parker squinted and smiled.
“Mom, I taught Daniel to write today!” Cathy joined.
Daniel nodded his head with a slow half-beat, “Yes, Cathy teach me how to write Mom ”
“Both of you were very good today!” Veronica Parker thought, how can Cathy teach Daniel how to write when she didn’t even know how to? But she just kept that to herself.
Julie said, “Mom, Josh didn’t finish his meal, I helped him eat it up!”
Josh said, “No Mom I ate it all by myself.”
Veronica Parker felt a little depressed. If Julie would not help Josh eat, he would not be able to finish his meal. It should have been her who’s doing that for the six little ones. She remembered how when people around Josh had finished eating, he would not feel the urge to keep eating.
From one of the seats Lily said, “Mom, I was mentioned by the teacher today!”
Veronica Parker thought for a moment and asked, “Did she give you a compliment?”
“Well! The teacher said that my braids are so cute! “Lily said, shaking her two pigtails, it was really cute. Veronica Parker wanted to stay looking at Lily like that because that little girl never failed to make her heart feel like it was about to melt.
Just as she was listening to the milky sound of six babies, she was surprised by the sound of an arriving vehicle outside causing the teacup beside her to fall on the ground.
The scared Veronica Parker quickly lowered her voice and said, “Mom is going to work, so stop talking!” Wait for Mom to come back tomorrow! Isabella, that’s it.”
She heard the noise outside getting nearer. There was the sound of someone’s footsteps. With that, she hung up the phone quickly.
Nick Cage opened the door and saw the broken teacup on the floor and he knew that something was going on.
Was she going against him?
Nick Cage looked up and his black eyes swept sharply towards the bedroom.
He went into the bedroom just as Veronica Parker came out of the bathroom.
Veronica Parker received the cold glow of Nick Cage’s eyes and said, “I was just about to take a bath.”
She pursued her lips and walked to the bed.
“Give it here,” Nick Cage ordered.
“What?” Veronica Parker was stupefied for a moment and realized that Nick Cage wanted her cell phone. She was holding the cell phone in her hand, “I’m not doing anything. I’m just called Isabella before I take a shower.”
“I have no patience, Veronica. I said give me the phone.”
Veronica Parker sighed helplessly and handed over the phone feeling a bit irritated, “You can see it for yourself if you want! You’ll see that I’m telling the truth.”
Nick Cage opened the phone records and found that the previous call was true with Isabella and the timing was just right.
“Is that enough?” Veronica Parker angrily took the phone and threw it on the nightstand.
“Isabella doesn’t trust me. As long as I work overtime, she will call me even if I already called her in the morning. As expected, she was still worried when I told her that I would not be able to go home for two days. She even asked me if I had gone to Toby Cage again. She already begged me to resign Nick!” Veronica Parker continued, “But I also know I can’t quit my job so I always try to calm her until she felt secure. When can I go back? Do you always want Isabella to be scared for me?”
With a deep voice and a tone of command, Nick Cage said, “Come here Veronica” He leaned against the armrest of the sofa, gazing at her with dark eyes. He just kept staring at her with sharp eyes.
Veronica Parker looked at him with confusion in her eyes, “What are you doing?”
“Why do you keep being disobedient?” Nick Cage asked.
She was not able to reply for a moment. Veronica Parker gritted her teeth and tried not to speak with a tone of anger. Any sign of negative emotions and he would be going to threaten her! She braved herself and tried to keep some distance from the man but she was immediately dragged over by the impatient Nick Cage, “What the —.”
Veronica Parker fell into Nick Cage’s muscular chest and felt a bit scared that she wanted to get out of the room. Suddenly she felt his tight grip around her waist and she could not move.
“Nick, what are you doing?” Veronica Parker asked, her cheeks turning to a light shade of pink.
“I haven’t realized it back then but I want you to be my woman,” Nick Cage raised her chin and touched her delicate skin with the tips of his fingers.
