The six kids immediately looked at Veronica. Their eyes were filled with tears, but Isabella showed no mercy. When they all got out of bed, Veronica said, “I’ll boil ginger water for you. When you sweat, you’ll feel much better.”
“Okay.”
Isabella closed the door. But like a pitiful one, Cathy went to the door. He tried to pull the doorknob open, but his height was too short so he couldn’t reach it.
Isabella said, “Don’t block the way. I’m going to boil ginger water with your mother.”
With that, she went to work on her.
Cathy ran to Isabella who was boiling ginger water while Peter asked, “Will Mom get well with that ginger water?”
Pam asked, “Will she be all right?”
Cathy was about to cry as tears started to form in the corners of her eyes. She also asked, “Will she?”
Cathy raised her little hands high and volunteered, “I’m going to boil ginger water for my mother!”
Lily also said, “Me, too!”
Daniel blushed with excitement and also exclaimed, “Yes!”
Isabella laughed and said, “Aunt Isabella is already preparing the ginger water. Why don’t you go and find me a towel? Your mom will need it when she sweats later.”
“Ok!”
The six little kids turned around and scrambled to find some towels, running with their short legs vigorously.
Isabella boiled the ginger water and poured it all into the footbath. The six little kids had not come back yet, so she went to find them. She then saw the messy area next to the cupboard in the next room.
Isabella saw that Peter and Cathy were both grabbing the same towel, and each was tugging at one end. No one showed any weakness or any sign of backing down. The brawl between the two ensued as Peter claimed, “This is the towel! I found it first!”
Cathy, who was having a bad temper, argued, “Obviously, I was the one who found it first, Peter!”
As the twins, Peter and Cathy continued to fight over the towel, they both burrowed in the pile of clothes like caterpillars.
Lily pulled out Veronica’s stocking in her hand as if wondering, ‘What is this? Is this a towel?’
Meanwhile, Daniel sat up with a piece of clothing wrapped around his head that covered his eyes. He could not see anything and his body did not move, as if he was blinded by the piece of clothing.
Isabella hurried over to Daniel and took the piece of clothing off his head. As soon as he was able to see, Daniel moved.
She said, “All right, look at your mess. Hurry out and I’ll clean it up.”
Cathy was also driven out of the room. He went to the living room and saw the ginger water in the footbath.
Cathy volunteered and asked, “Is this for my mother? How many cups should I get?”
With that, she immediately went to get a cup.
Meanwhile, Veronica leaned against the bed and wanted to call Kay Tours.
After soaking her feet, she wanted to go to work. Although it will take her more than an hour to get there, she did not want to miss work for today. A record of absence would only cause a large amount of deduction from her salary.
Before the phone call ended, she heard a wheezing outside, as if the six little kids were only playing just outside the door.
Suddenly, the doorknob was turned and the door opened.
Veronica saw Peter standing on the bench. He raised his hands and exclaimed, “I’m so bored!”
Veronica was speechless.
Soon, Cathy came over. Her face was red with determination. She was carefully carrying a cup in her hands. With her, four other small hands assisted her while as she was carrying the cup. It gave her silent encouragement to go on.
Finally, they reached Veronica and said, “Mom, we brought you a ginger ale. Drink it!”
Veronica took the cup. She thought, ‘Did Isabella told them to bring it?’
Looking at the bright eyes of the children who were all looking expectantly at her, Veronica smiled and asked, “Do I need to drink this?”
“Yes!”
Cathy stared at Veronica, he was also expecting her to drink it.
Veronica took a sip but almost spit it out. She initially thought, ‘Forget about drinking this ginger water. Why is it extremely hot and spicy? What kind of a horrible recipe is this?’
But despite the disgusting taste, Veronica could not just stop drinking it in front of the kids. She did not want to disappoint them, so she readied herself, took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and drank it all in one go.
After swallowing the last drop, Veronica’s facial expression distorted. The bridge of her nose wrinkled as her eyebrows arched, her eyes narrowed, and her lips contorted. The taste was horrible.
Isabella laboriously came in with a foot tub, put it on the ground, and asked her, “What are you drinking?”
Veronica replied, “Didn’t you ask them to bring me ginger ale?”
“The ginger water is not for drinking. It was meant for soaking your feet.”
Veronica was dumbfounded for a moment. She looked at the cup in her hand, looked at the foot tub, and then absentmindedly crashed herself on the bed. She couldn’t believe she had just drunk foot soaking water!
Cathy only looked at Veronica’s crashing on the bed with an inquiring look on his face.
Veronica thought, ‘Fortunately, it’s just ginger and pepper. It’ll be all right.’
After being taken out by Isabella, Veronica called Kay while her feet were soaked in the ginger water. She said, “Kay, I’m going to be late. I still have something to do here. Can I take two hours off?”
“Okay. But don’t forget that there will be a meeting in the afternoon.”
“Okay, I will.”
Isabella sent Cathy to the school nursery. After soaking her feet, Veronica broke out in a sweat and felt much better.
She called Isabella and then she went out for work.
But Veronica was overworking her body. Because as soon as she got out of the subway station, she felt dizzy and struggled with every step. After being able to walk for a few meters, she began to feel dizzy, and her legs wobbled. She passed out and fell to the side of the road.
Soon after, passers-by saw the commotion and asked, “Oh, what’s wrong with this lady?”
“She seems to have fainted.”
“How did she faint? Can you touch her? Is she sick? ”
“She looked very pale.”
With that, no one dared to come near her.
Suddenly, a sports car stopped and parked on the side of the road. A long-legged man stepped out of the car, walked towards where Veronica was and the crowd that gathered around gave way. He immediately picked Veronica up and got in the car.
Then the car sped away.
The meeting was scheduled to commence at 01:00 in the afternoon. Soon, the upper echelons of the conference room were filled as people entered one after the other.
Kay saw Josephine standing at the door.
Kay asked her, “Why are you here? Where’s Veronica? ”
“Veronica called in sick.”
“She’s on sick leave? Is she sick? ”
“I don’t know. I called her and a man answered the phone. He said that Veronica caught a cold and needed a rest.”
As soon as Josephine was done speaking, she immediately stopped talking when she saw a tall figure coming. Kay took a step back slightly and acknowledged the man, “Mr. Cage.”
Nick Cage coldly walked over. He was breathless.
Kay knew about what Mr. Cage had just said. She looked at Josephine and said, “Tell me in advance about the next job change.”
“Yes.”
Veronica’s long eyelashes trembled and her eyes opened with bewilderment.
She saw the white ceiling above her and smelled a pungent potion.
‘Am I in the hospital?’
The needle of the dextrose was still stuck at the back of her hand and the liquid in the dextrose bag was dripping.
“Don’t move.”
Veronica was stunned after hearing a man’s voice. She turned her head and saw Toby Cage sitting on a chair on the other side of the bed.
Veronica’s face sank a little feebly.
Toby asked her, “Shouldn’t you be nicer to someone who saved you after you fainted by the side of the road?”
“The next time you see me in the same situation, just don’t mind me.”
Toby looked at the corner of her lips and looked at her wantonly as he said, “How should we work this out? At least you are my ex-girlfriend. Ah, by the way, you don’t like me to mention the word ‘ex-girlfriend,’ but we can’t change this is a fact.”
Veronica didn’t want to argue with him about this. She immediately thought, ‘How long had it been since I passed out? What about my enemy? I have to go to the company immediately!’
But most importantly, she didn’t want to see this scumbag, Toby.
Looking at her watch, the time was almost 01:30 in the afternoon.
Toby suddenly asked, “What is that on your neck?”
