Chapter 53

Book:Hated By The Alpha Published:2024-8-5

“Easy,” Alpha Lake gently lowered the ‘injured’ Audrey onto a chair on the dining table.
“Thank you,” Audrey said.
She piteously stared at Sandra as she carried the dishes to the table.
“Dinner is served, Alpha,” Sandra said wearily.
Audrey quietly seeped her water from the glass, waiting for the next scene to unfold.
Alpha Lake silently nodded and drew the dish closer, he opened the dish and his face immediately fell.
“Pft!” Audrey spurt out the water from her mouth, trying but failing to hold in her laughter.
Sandra sent Audrey a pleading look, her laughter was going to make everything worse.
“What’s this?” Alpha Lake asked, staring at the food with disdain.
“I-it’s n-noodles, A-alpha,” Sandra said, visibly starting to shiver.
Audrey knew she had to stop laughing, but when she took a look at the chopped, wrinkly, and floating noodles, the laughter just started all over on its own.
And she bet her life that she prepared it with cold water.
“Behave, Kitten,” Alpha Lake said discreetly to Audrey.
“Sorry, Sandra…” Audrey apologized and comported herself.
“It’s okay, just-”
“But it was just a poor noodle, did you have to murder it this way?” Audrey asked and burst out laughing again.
“Stop, Catherine, your wound!” alpha Lake chastised.
“Ouch… it hurts! Ouch!” Audrey put her hands over her tummy and winced, faking pain.
“Easy, easy, come here…” Alpha Lake got up and carried Audrey’s bridal style to the living room.
“Let me see,” He said as he placed her on the sofa.
“No, I’m okay now, I shouldn’t have laughed that hard,” She chuckled.
Alpha Lake smiled, taking her hands in his.
Audrey couldn’t help staring at his magnetic grey eyes. He looked fucking sexy with his dimpled smile.
“But I liked it. I loved hearing you laugh genuinely for the first time,” He kissed the back of her hands.
Audrey was blushing profusely, she felt the butterflies vigorously flapping their wings in her stomach.
Sandra stood there, looking at the two people who were unconsciously acting like lovesick puppies, she felt like a third wheel.
But she was thankful that the attention had been removed from her and her very terrible noodles.
She didn’t blame Audrey for laughing at her and her cooking; if it could even be called that; she knew she would have done worse if it were her.
She sighed and carried the rubbish she had prepared inside the kitchen to discard it.
When she came out, Alpha Lake was now sitting beside Audrey, still holding her hand in his.
She sighed and slowly approached them.
“Alpha, I’m sorry for the food, well… that thing,” She scratched the back of her head in embarrassment.
“It’s okay, ask Ms. Bridget to bring something up for us,” He said in a bored tone like he couldn’t wait for Sandra to leave and give him and Audrey some privacy.
Sandra noticed it and sent Audrey a side glare before leaving.
“Yes, Alpha,” Sandra bowed and left.
She couldn’t help wondering what had gotten into the Alpha as she went down the stairs, she could still remember how he treated Cara when she went to cook for him in place of the missing Audrey.
She had never heard of his tolerance for cooking to anyone who wasn’t Audrey, not even Ms. Bridget’s cooking.
But, here she was, walking scot-free after presenting something inedible to him.
Love sure does change people.
She just hoped they could both realize it before it was too late for them.
“You didn’t have to laugh at her that way, you made her feel bad,” Aloha Lake said to Audrey as they washed the TV.
“Huh! What?” Audrey asked sarcastically.
“I meant Sand-”
“I know. I mean… so you know what it means for someone to feel bad?” Audrey asked seriously.
Alpha Lake sighed. There it is again. Each time it felt like they were getting somewhere, she went and built up another wall around her. Like there was some kind of vendetta she had against him.
“Yes, Kitten I do. And that’s why I’ve decided to right my wrongs with you,” He replied sincerely.
He was tired of bickering. He just wanted to successfully enjoy a peaceful moment with her.
Audrey scoffed and removed her hand from his.
‘Hypocrite.’
“Then, you know nothing,” Audrey said and shifted away from him.
Alpha Lake sighed. His heart ached with each distance Audrey put between them.
“Kitten…” His eyes glazed over as he paused to receive a mind link.
“Stay here, kitten, they caught a witch at the border,” Alpha Lake’s mood shifted and turned sour.
Witches were a sour topic for him.
He was already at the door when he turned back and hurried back to Audrey and squatted between her knees, caressing her lap.
“I like you… A lot.” He said as he stared heatedly into her eyes.
There, he said it. He wasn’t hiding it anymore, he knew the moment that incident happened with Janeth that something was cooking somewhere, and if witches were to happen again, he didn’t want to regret not getting to tell her how he felt about her.
Audrey’s heart was pounding aggressively inside her chest.
‘Why was he this spontaneous?’ She looked anywhere but at him.
“I mean it, Kitten,” He turned her face to him and held it in his fingers.
“And, I’ll make sure I prove it to you,” He leaned forward and kissed her lips briefly, almost teasingly.
“Stay in here, wait for me to return,” He caressed the side of her face with his fingers.
“Be good,” He patted her head like a kitten’s before leaving.
Audrey sat still for some time after Alpha Lake left, she was pondering on her emotions.
Why was her heart racing so fast? Just because a man said he liked her? Well… Not just any man; a panty-drop sexy demi-god with a killer-hot body and a face that beats Zeus’s.
She sighed and placed her finger over her lips that he had teasingly grazed with his own, she wished he dived a little deeper, she wanted to feel those sexy thin lips press sensually against hers, to feel his explorative tongue seek hers and they would both mingle in an erotic dance of lusty dominance…
“Ah! For Ef’s sake!” Audrey frustratedly ran her fingers through her hair.
“What am I supposed to do now?!” She said loudly.
‘What you should’ve done from the beginning,’ Avery said.
“And… that is…” Audrey asked, having an inkling of what it was already.
‘Mate him.’ Avery said matter of factedly.
‘On point!’ Selena supported.
Audrey sighed and stood up, walking around the living room.
“Yeah, not happening,” Audrey shook her head.
‘There we go again, next what? Tell us how bad he treated you?’ Avery asked sarcastically.
“Ah, well thank goodness you remember that, I don’t have to tell the story all over again,” Audrey replied with sarcasm too.
‘Come on, have you seen that man? He’s a walking libido! How could you not want him?’ Avery asked, frustrated.
“It’s simple, I hate him. I don’t like him, and I don’t want him. Period,” Audrey said as she lowered herself to start on the first stair.
‘Oh, baby, watch me make you crave him, want him, like him, and even love him!’ Avery threatened.
“Oh my, I can’t wait, great Avery. Hurry up before I change my mind,” Audrey mocked.
‘Enough! Both of you,’ Selena bellowed, sounding a bit angry for the first time.
Audrey just rolled her eyes and said nothing.
‘You claim you don’t want him, yet, you’ve made no effort to find the other half of the amulet so you can leave him and his Pack for good,’ Selena said.
‘Let me remind you that the full moon is in less than two weeks, and baby girl; if you stay here till then… you’re definitely going to get laid’ Selena was still venting.
Audrey couldn’t believe Selena had this kind of side to her, she was even worse than Avery who talked all the time, no wonder she avoided dialogue so much, she was just realizing that her spirit guide had a very short temper.
She preferred her quiet.
“I think I get the point now, Selena-”
‘No! You don’t!’ Selena sighed.
‘Look, I’m not saying all this for you to run away from him… Because, I too, want to have my mate back. It’s been decades since we parted, and finally, the Moon goddess blessed us with her wonderful wolf-‘
‘Thank you, Selena,’ Avery chinned in.
Audrey rolled her eyes, Avery never missed an opportunity to show off.
Selena chuckled and continued.
‘And now, we have him, but we can’t be with him, because we’re respecting your decision, it’s your body after all. But I want you to know that you and him were made for each other, and he’ll help you in the future.
You’ve seen how everything is unfolding. Be with him, and solve those mysteries together. You and him have one goal, make him realize who he really is…’
And that was it, typical Selena; she would leave you with a very vague message.
Audrey sighed deeply. She saw sense in what they said, but her pride was at stake.
She had sworn not to have anything to do with him, but, what now?
Wait… She suddenly sprang up, remembering what Alpha Lake had said before he left.
“Who was the witch at the border?” She muttered, feeling unsettled.
