Chapter 51

Book:Hated By The Alpha Published:2024-8-5

Alpha Lake was still giving instructions to Henry and Philip when he heard Audrey’s painful cry, he looked in her direction and his vision turned red.
In the blink of an eye, he was beside Audrey, holding her up as blood flowed out from her stab.
“What have you done!” He was lethal as he stared at Grace.
He would have ended her then and there but, Audrey was more important, he would take her to the Pack hospital, and then, he’d deal with Cara and Grace later.
“A-Alpha, I d- didn’t-”
“Silence!” He growled at Grace.
His wolf was fully present now, everyone lowered their head in total submission to his Alpha command.
Cara was visibly shaking as she stood beside the wall, she had just been gossiping and badmouthing Audrey, and she never expected Grace to take it so personally and act the way she did.
She feared for herself… and for Grace, but for herself mainly, for she knew the Alpha already knew she had a grudge against Audrey and he’d think she’d been the one who asked Grace to stab Audrey.
She was done for.
“Philip!” He called as he carried the bleeding Audrey bridal style.
“Yes, Alpha,” Philip appeared beside him immediately, awaiting his command.
“You know what to do,” His voice was dark and lethal.
“Yes, Alpha,” Philip replied with a bow of his head.
“No, please, no! I didn’t mean to do it… she provoked me! Please, don’t lock me up!” Grace wailed as Philip grabbed her and Cara by the arm.
“Move,” He said to Cara.
Cara silently followed him, she knew she was inexcusable, there was nothing she would say now that would exempt her.
“Oh, please! It’s her! It was Cara who asked me to do it!” Grace cried, pointing accusingly at Cara.
Tears of regret flew down Cara’s cheeks, she saw that coming, she had always known that Grace wasn’t one to trust.
She betrayed her when things got heated.
Alpha Lake rushed into the Pack hospital with Audrey in his arms.
“Alpha what happened? This way please,” A young doctor in a white coat and a stethoscope around his neck directed Alpha Lake into the emergency room.
“She’s been stabbed, heal her now!” Alpha Lake barked at the doctor.
“Y-yes, Alpha,” The doctor replied fearfully.
“P-please, wait o-outside, Alpha,” The doctor stammered.
Alpha Lake stared at him threateningly before he angrily left the room.
Audrey had been quiet since Alpha Lake came and carried her. Anyone who looked at her face would see the painful wince on her face like she was trying to contain the pain and not cry out, but, in truth; she was wincing because she was using all her will to keep her wound open and keep her scent hidden.
This was an unexpected incident. If she hadn’t been always mindful of masking her scent, she would have been exposed the moment the first drop of blood leaked out of her body.
It was easy to mask the scent of her flesh, but blood needed extra concentration to mask. And, another problem she was having was keeping her wound open.
On a normal day, her wounds healed immediately after they occurred, but, that can’t be the case in this situation, it would mean letting everyone know who she was.
“Hello, Ms. I’m Doctor Caleb, do you mind if I raise your shirt and check your wound?” Caleb asked professionally.
“Mm,” Audrey replied.
Audrey wasn’t comfortable staying alone with Caleb.
Just like Ms. Bridget, he was also one of the people who were nice to her before she left the Grey Blood Pack.
She would always come to him when she injured herself from the hard Labour she did or whenever she generally didn’t feel well and he would always treat her without telling the Alpha.
Alpha Lake had banned her from receiving any medical treatment from the Pack’s hospital since she wasn’t a wolf, she wasn’t worthy of receiving treatment from their hospital.
She only Prayed that Caleb wouldn’t recognize her.
Caleb carefully rolled Audrey’s shirt up and shifted his tray of medications closer to Audrey’s bed.
“Hmm, I thought you’d need surgery, turns out it’s just a laceration, a simple suture would do,” He informed Audrey as he cleaned the affected area with a cooling liquid.
Caleb felt a kind of familiarity around his new patient, but he didn’t want to make conclusions yet, till he confirmed it from her.
“Ok,” Audrey nodded.
Audrey felt kind of relieved because she had managed to keep the wound open till now, she couldn’t have imagined the shock on Doctor Caleb’s when he raised her shirt to see perfectly intact and smooth skin, not to mention the puzzle and suspicion it would leave Alpha Lake in.
“This would sting just a little,” Caleb informed as he slowly injected lidocaine into Audrey’s skin, near the lacerated area.
Audrey first felt a little needle prick, then nothing else.
After thirty minutes, her wound was neatly stitched and bandaged.
“All done,” Caleb said as he removed his gloves and helped Audrey to sit up.
“Thank you, Doc,” Audrey said.
“You’re welcome, Ms…” Caleb trailed off, not knowing how to address his patient.
“Catherine,” Audrey provided.
“Nice, Catherine. So, Catherine, avoid exerting pressure on the wound for one to two weeks… I doubt it’ll take that long…” He paused and stared at Audrey suspiciously.
“W-what do you mean, you doubt it’ll take that long?” Audrey asked innocently.
“What are you?” Caleb asked seriously.
“Huh? Nothing, I’m-”
“A wolf,”
“Shh!!!” Audrey sprang up from the bed and used her hands to cover Caleb’s mouth.
“Mph.. mn!” Caleb mumbled inaudibly, raising his hands in surrender.
Audrey slowly removed her hands from his mouth.
“You’re not entirely human, right?” Caleb asked cautiously.
His instincts were always right, he knew it the moment he saw her. He couldn’t be fooled.
Audrey sighed and nodded.
She knew there was no use lying to him, he would have probably seen her wound heal while he stitched it.
“I knew it. Your wound is almost closed up, I just had to put a few stitches to make it look like I did my job. He doesn’t know, huh?” He looked outside where Alpha Lake was waiting.
“Yeah, Please, don’t tell him,” Audrey pleaded.
“I noticed you don’t want him knowing, don’t worry, just add me to the list of people who already know…” He smiled at her, “I’m not the only one, right? Audrey?” He looked her straight in the eyes as he called her name.
There was no way he could be wrong. It had to be her. As a werewolf Doctor, he knew that the possibility of Audrey fazing later was possible, which explains the presence of her wolf.
Audrey froze as she heard her name. She’s been busted… Again.
She slowly looked up at him and shook her head, silently begging him to keep his mouth shut.
“Relax, I was just trying to confirm. So, Audrey or Catherine?” Caleb asked.
“Catherine,” Audrey shrugged.
“Ok, fine, but can I ask something?” Caleb said.
“Yes,” Audrey nodded.
“Why? Why did you come back here? And what really happened? They said you were dead,” Caleb asked curiously.
“Too many questions, Doc. I’ll tell you all when I get the chance,” Audrey said.
“What’s taking so long?” Alpha Lake barged in, a dangerous atmosphere clouding the room as he did.
“Ah, I was just about to call you in, Alpha,” Caleb said, sounding as collected as he could.
“Are you alright?” Alpha Lake went over to Audrey who was sitting on the bed, he gently caressed her cheeks and held one of her palms in his.
Caleb quietly observed them, he knew the Alpha was unaware of Audrey’s identity and only saw her as a human.
But his question was; why was Alpha Lake kind to someone who was still human? He thought he hated humans? And didn’t he realize she looked like the girl he used to hate? He wondered the story behind their relationship.
“No, I mean, yes… I’m fine. Don’t worry,” Audrey said, flustered as Alpha Lake wanted to raise her shirt to check her wound.
She quickly held his hands and assured him she was alright. She feared he might find out about her fast healing… It would be the end of the road for her.
“It’s nothing too deep, Alpha, just as I’ve told her, don’t let her do anything that’ll apply pressure on it. I’ll check her up in a week,” Caleb explained to the Alpha.
“I can walk!” Audrey said as Alpha Lake suddenly but gently took her into his arms.
“Quiet, don’t strain the wound,” Alpha Lake shushed her softly.
Caleb watched as he carried her out of the clinic. He wondered how Alpha Lake would react when if he discovered that the person he was carrying so tenderly in his arms was the same person he wanted to kill so many times before.
“Oh dear! What happened to her?” Ms. Bridget asked as she came out from the kitchen and saw Alpha Lake carrying Audrey up the stairs.
“Ask Sandra to come up at once!” Alpha Lake ordered.
“Uh, yes, Alpha.” Ms. Bridget replied and quickly went to call Sandra.
“Why are you so worried?” Audrey asked as Alpha Lake gently lowered her onto the bed.
Alpha Lake didn’t reply, instead, he sat beside her and faced away from her.
“What now? Don’t want to talk to me after saving me?” Audrey teased.
“Stop joking!” Alpha Lake growled.
Audrey raised her eyebrows in question at his change of mood.
“Do you think it’s funny, huh?” He asked, his voice sounding like he was holding back tears.
Audrey couldn’t believe her eyes. Why would he cry… for her?
