Chapter 1422: Raising the Stakes

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-8-4

Mr. Chung laughed heartily, “Alright, I’ll follow with another hand.” He threw in forty thousand dollars.
Leo said, “It’s boring with just two people. I’ll bet twenty thousand to open your hand.”
He picked up his cards and casually flipped them over.
3, 10, Q.
Different suits and colors, indifferent cards.
Leo immediately put on a pained expression, “So small, it seems Mr. Chung has the opening victory. Congratulations.”
Mr. Chung, however, looked stunned, staring at Leo’s cards in disbelief.
Kevin Smith sensed something was wrong and asked, “Mr. Chung, what’s the matter?”
Mr. Chung begrudgingly picked up his cards and threw them down, gritting his teeth, “Damn it, I got QJ’d!”
Everyone saw that Mr. Chung’s cards were 3, 10, J.
Just one card short of Leo’s hand, even just one point short. It was indeed a close call.
Leo laughed heartily, “What a surprise, I actually won. Thank you, Mr. Chung.”
He stood up and happily swept the chips on the table towards himself.
Mr. Chung looked dejected, his mood instantly souring.
Not only him, but Kevin Smith also had a peculiar expression.
Not to mention Mr. Chan and Mr. John, who had folded early. Kevin Smith had the best hand among the three and had even followed with one hundred and twenty thousand dollars but ended up folding because of Mr. Chung’s words.
He had given up tens of thousands of dollars! Kevin Smith felt like his heart was bleeding.
In the first round, Leo won.
Pretty Dealer quickly took out a new deck of cards and started dealing again.
Everyone placed their ante, starting with Leo.
Leo looked confident and casually threw in ten thousand dollars.
Kevin Smith followed, Mr. Chung snorted coldly and doubled it to twenty thousand dollars.
Mr. Chan and Mr. John didn’t hesitate and followed.
Leo said helplessly, “Mr. Chung, you’re a rich man. I can’t afford to bet recklessly like you. Let’s look at the cards first.”
Leo picked up his cards and immediately threw them away after seeing them.
After Leo folded, Kevin Smith looked at his cards and followed with forty thousand dollars.
Mr. Chung remained silent and added another twenty thousand dollars.
Mr. Chan followed with twenty thousand dollars, and so did Mr. John.
After three rounds, Mr. Chung looked at his cards and happily pressed down, throwing in forty thousand dollars.
Someone looked at their cards again, and they continued for three more rounds.
After three rounds of looking at their cards, Mr. Chan folded, leaving only Mr. John, Kevin Smith, and Mr. Chung at the table.
Mr. John smiled and said, “Mr. Chung, there’s quite a bit of money on the table now. Why don’t we compare our hands?”
Mr. Chung sneered, “What’s the point of comparing? Let’s put money on the table and open our hands. I’ll throw in two hundred thousand dollars.”
With that move, he instantly raised it to the limit.
Mr. John’s expression changed. He looked deeply at Mr. Chung and chose to fold.
Now it was Kevin Smith’s turn to hesitate. He looked at his cards and then at Mr. Chung before gritting his teeth and saying, “I’ll pay to see your cards.”
Kevin Smith flipped his cards over.
9, 10, J, Straight.
It was a good hand; Kevin Smith was right not to fold.
But Mr. Chung triumphantly revealed his cards.
4, 6, 7-three numbers-but it was a Flush, specifically a Small Flush.
A Small Flush beats a Straight; Kevin Smith’s face turned ashen as if he had lost everything.
Mr. Chung raked in nearly a million dollars with this hand and laughed heartily, his previous frustration vanishing without a trace.
Leo outwardly appeared envious but secretly sneered.
He had already used his senses to see all the dealt cards clearly.
In the first round, he had deliberately played conservatively to win against Mr. Chung.
In the second round, everyone else had good hands while his was too poor to risk it.
But all the cards were under his control; winning or losing was naturally up to him.
In the following rounds, Leo won some and lost some but always lost less than he won. His chips grew from two hundred thousand to over three million dollars.
Among the other four players, Mr. Chung lost the most; not only did he lose what he had previously won but also added another two hundred thousand dollars and was left with only tens of thousands of dollars.
His face turned as dark as ink, his mood plummeting to the extreme.
Kevin Smith managed to win a few good hands and made a small profit. As for Mr. John and Mr. Chan, they each lost tens of thousands of dollars.
Looking at it this way, all the money ended up in Leo’s hands.
Everyone suddenly realized something and focused their gaze on Leo.
Since the used cards had been checked with no issues found, no one could accuse Leo of cheating.
But Leo’s luck was simply too good, making everyone suspicious.
Pretty Dealer opened a new deck of cards and started dealing again.
As all the cards were dealt out, Leo’s eyes flashed; he thought to himself that the real show was about to begin.
Because in this round, everyone had good hands.
A Straight, two Small Flushes, one Straight Flush, and his own Triple.
As each player revealed their cards one by one, everyone felt excited upon seeing their hands and silently followed with their bets.
In no time at all, the money on the table exceeded a million dollars without anyone folding.
Mr. Chung held a Gold Karat in his hand and said with a smile, “Everyone is betting so aggressively; it seems we all have good hands.”
He threw in two hundred thousand dollars directly.
Everyone exchanged glances with serious expressions.
This trend suggested that everyone’s hands were strong.
Those with weaker hands began to feel uncertain.
Mr. Chan looked at his cards and threw in two hundred thousand dollars saying, “I’ll see Mr. Chung’s cards.”
Mr. Chung pushed his cards over.
Mr. Chan looked at them and silently folded his own cards.
“I won’t look; two hundred thousand,” Mr. John said with a smile as he casually threw in two hundred thousand dollars.
Mr. Chung’s smile grew even wider as if all the money being thrown in was already his.
“I’ll follow,” Leo said as well.
Mr. Chung raised an eyebrow and suspiciously glanced at Leo.
He had lost several hands to Leo before this one.
Now that he had a big hand himself, could Leo possibly have an even bigger one?
Impossible; he couldn’t be that lucky.
“I fold,” Kevin Smith wisely chose to give up; he already sensed something was off.
“I’ll put in two hundred thousand to see Mr. John’s cards,” Mr. Chung still didn’t believe Leo could have a bigger hand than him and wanted to compare with Mr. John instead.
Mr. John cheerfully picked up Mr. Chung’s cards for a look before throwing them away.
The action made it clear that Mr. Chung didn’t have a bigger hand than him either.
Mr. Chung’s face instantly darkened.
In this round alone, he was left with only tens of thousands of dollars from his original hundreds of thousands within an hour!
The amount lost made even him feel a bit of pain.
Mr. John looked at Leo and asked, “Mr. Bloomer, I’ll add another two hundred thousand; what do you say?”
Leo smiled, “It’s rare to play against you, Mr. John. How about we add something extra outside of this game?”
Mr. John raised an eyebrow and asked, “What do you want to bet on?”
Leo replied, “I bet on Bard Adela.”
Mr. John’s expression changed slightly.
Leo continued, “We’ll compare our hands; if I lose, all my chips here will be yours.”
“If I win, Bard Adela leaves here without you bothering him again; how about it?”
