After Howard Clark and his men left, Marie approached with a worried expression. “Mr. Shelby, you hit people from the patrol office. They won’t let this go easily. I’m afraid they will come to retaliate against you!”
Chris Shelby smiled nonchalantly. “Don’t worry! It’s just a mere patrol office. I don’t take them seriously. If they dare to come after me, I’ll make them regret it!”
Hearing this, Marie didn’t know what to say. She knew Chris Shelby’s identity was not simple, but after all, it was the patrol office. Ordinary people saw the patrol office as mice see cats.
Seeing Marie’s worried face, Chris Shelby smiled faintly. “Alright, don’t worry about me! I’ve offended many people, and many want me dead, but I’m still alive and well. A mere patrol office doesn’t scare me.”
At this moment, the food stall owner came over with a grateful face. “Thank you for helping me. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know what to do today.”
If Chris Shelby hadn’t stepped in today, the food stall owner’s stand would have been taken away by the patrol office people. His whole family depended on this stand for their livelihood. If it were taken away, they would have no means to live.
Chris Shelby smiled and asked, “Boss, are you alright?”
The owner shook his head. “I’m fine!”
Chris Shelby then took out a few hundred dollars and said, “Boss, this is for our meal.”
Seeing Chris Shelby give money, the owner hurriedly said, “You helped me today; how can I take your money?”
Chris Shelby smiled and said, “Boss, running this food stall isn’t easy for you either. I helped you out of righteousness; it’s nothing big for me.”
For Chris Shelby, as the king of the East Coast, teaching a lesson to these patrol officers was part of his duty.
Hearing Chris Shelby say this, the owner had no choice but to accept the money.
Chris Shelby turned to Marie and said, “Marie, I’ll take you back to school.”
“Okay!” Marie nodded.
Then Chris Shelby took Marie back to East Coast University.
Meanwhile…
At the East Coast Patrol Office.
Justin Smith was the director of the patrol office. Although his position wasn’t very high, he wielded significant power. As the director of the East Coast Patrol Office, Justin Smith lived a very comfortable life.
“Director, you must stand up for me!” Howard Clark returned to the patrol office and immediately went to Justin Smith to complain.
In fact, confiscating vendors’ stands was Justin Smith’s idea. He had no real skills but was very good at making money. With this tactic alone, Justin Smith could rake in millions every year.
Justin Smith looked at Howard Clark with displeasure and asked, “What exactly happened?”
Howard Clark gritted his teeth and said, “Director, tonight I took some men to the food street near East Coast University and encountered a meddlesome guy who beat all our men!”
“What?” Justin Smith’s face turned cold upon hearing this. “Who dares to be so bold as to beat our patrol office people?”
At this moment, Justin Smith was furious. As the director of the patrol office, someone daring to beat his men was a direct affront to him.
Justin Smith glanced at Howard Clark and said, “Don’t worry; I’ll make sure we settle this score!”
Hearing this, Howard Clark was overjoyed. “Thank you, Director!”
This incident greatly affected the patrol office’s reputation. If not handled properly, who would obey them in the future? It would be hard for them to bully vendors again!
With this thought in mind, Justin Smith asked, “Do you know who beat you?”
Howard Clark shook his head. “I don’t know, but one of them seemed to be a student from East Coast University.”
“Very well!” Justin Smith squinted his eyes and said coldly, “Howard Clark, tomorrow bring that female student here and make that guy who beat us come too. I want him to know what happens when you mess with our patrol office.”
“Yes!” Howard Clark replied without hesitation and immediately left.
The next day…
Early in the morning…
Ring ring ring!
Chris Shelby was suddenly awakened by his phone ringing while he was sleeping. He picked up his phone and saw it was Marie calling.
“Marie? Why are you calling so early?”
“Mr. Shelby! Come quickly! The patrol office has arrested me… sob sob…”
On the other end of the line, Marie cried in fear.
“What?” Chris Shelby’s face changed instantly upon hearing this.
He knew that after he beat up those from the patrol office last night they wouldn’t let it go easily. But he didn’t expect them to be so despicable as to arrest Marie.
Thinking of this made Chris Shelby extremely angry.
“Marie! Don’t worry; I’m coming right now!”
After hanging up the phone, Chris Shelby quickly washed up and drove his Mercedes towards the East Coast Patrol Office.
In about twenty minutes or so he arrived at the patrol office.
Getting out of his car he walked straight into the building.
“Stop right there! This is the patrol office; what do you want?” Two staff members shouted harshly as soon as Chris Shelby entered.
Chris Shelby replied coldly: “My friend has been arrested by your patrol office; I’m here to bail her out!”
Of course he wouldn’t say he came here looking for trouble; otherwise he wouldn’t be able to find Marie.
The staff didn’t suspect much since they often arrested disobedient vendors and had their families or friends pay bail money regularly which earned them quite a bit each year.
One staff member sneered: “Those we arrest are kept on third floor; go pay bail there!”
Chris Shelby nodded then headed upstairs towards third floor where Marie was being held by Howard Clark’s group inside one room.
Howard Clark stared coldly at Marie demanding: “Tell us where that man who was with you last night is!”
Marie stubbornly replied: “I’ll never tell you!”
“Heh!” Howard Clark sneered pulling out sharp knife threateningly saying: “Not telling us? You’re quite pretty but if you don’t talk I’ll scar your face.”
Seeing this terrified Marie exclaimed: “Are you officials or bandits? How can you do such despicable things?”
She couldn’t believe that officials from prestigious patrol office would resort to such low tactics!
“Hahaha!”
