“It doesn’t matter.”
Sylvia interrupted the police chief, “All of Charlie Poole’s information is here. I hope you can solve the case soon.”
Her words were concise, and her expression was cold.
However, she showed no arrogance or other emotions.
She had no interest in the police chief’s pleasantries.
She just wanted to get this matter resolved quickly.
The police chief didn’t expect Sylvia to react this way. Usually, people would engage in some small talk with him.
But she…
Well, perhaps that’s what makes a big shot different.
He quickly responded, “Alright, alright, don’t worry.”
Sylvia said nothing more. She stood up slowly, and as she was about to leave, Aviana called out to her, “Miss Andrews, would you join us for a meal?”
Sylvia smiled slightly, “No need for a meal, maybe next time. I have a flight at two in the afternoon. So… sorry.”
Aviana didn’t push further and smiled, “Alright then, let’s arrange it another time.”
Outside the police station, Logan seemed reluctant, “Boss, you’re leaving already? The murder case here isn’t resolved yet! Why go back?”
Sylvia glanced at him from the corner of her eye, “What? Can’t bear to part with me?”
Logan chuckled, “It’s just that I haven’t seen you in a while. Eden heard you’re back and wanted to have dinner with you tonight! And Poppy too.”
“I have something to attend to back home.” Sylvia’s eyes darkened as she thought of the president’s so-called family reunion banquet.
“Alright then.” Logan conceded, “Do you need me to book a flight for you?”
“No need, my uncle has a private jet.” Sylvia checked the time; it was eleven in the morning, just enough time for a quick lunch. She told Logan, “Let’s have lunch at the hotel and have Poppy and Eden join us.”
“Alright, I’ll notify them right away.” Logan’s handsome face lit up with a smile; even a quick meal together was good.
The hotel had a restaurant on the fifth floor, not luxurious but just a regular dining place.
Sylvia and Logan ordered their food as soon as they arrived. Eden and Poppy arrived quickly, within about twenty minutes.
Poppy wore a light purple blouse paired with a pleated skirt, looking fresh and youthful.
“Sylvia, what are you and my brother up to? My brother is always unreachable, like he’s vanished. And you too, running off to another country. It’s so hard to see you both!”
Eden followed behind her, dressed in a simple shirt and jeans. The two of them looked very harmonious and pleasing to the eye.
“Sylvia, long time no see. What have you been busy with lately?”
Seeing them like this made Sylvia smile faintly. Her smile was captivating, with her eyes curving charmingly.
The four of them were all very attractive, each one a handsome man or beautiful woman.
Fortunately, there weren’t many customers in the restaurant since it was still early.
It wasn’t even noon yet.
The dishes were served quickly, filling the table.
“I have a flight to catch this afternoon, so I’m a bit pressed for time. Logan and I ordered without asking your preferences; I hope you don’t mind.”
Sylvia picked up her fork and apologized to the young man and woman.
“We’re not picky eaters; we’ll eat anything. Sylvia, don’t you know me by now?” Poppy said cheerfully, clearly happy to see Sylvia.
Seeing Sylvia was naturally a joy.
Both she and Eden were signed with Maskelyne Entertainment.
“Sylvia, ‘Go Everywhere’ has reached its final season at the borderlands. Will you be there for the finale?” Poppy suddenly remembered what Brock and Darnell had discussed recently.
The show had become popular thanks to Sylvia and Franklin. It wouldn’t be surprising if they returned for the last episode.
Sylvia shook her head, “No time, too busy.”
Besides, Franklin and she were currently living apart; the chances of them reuniting were slim.
Poppy nodded and picked up a piece of green vegetable, “Alright then.”
“Sylvia, there’s a script that’s pretty good called ‘Escape from the Secret Room.’ Do you think I should take it?” Eden had something he wanted to ask Sylvia about too.
Although his agent had analyzed it for him, he still wanted Sylvia’s opinion.
“This kind of suspense genre is hard to make popular because it’s too niche.” Sylvia frowned slightly just hearing the title. “But it will showcase your acting skills and might win awards. However, the box office might be a concern.”
In recent years, escape room themes and script killings had become popular; it seemed the writers and directors wanted to follow this trend.
But she wasn’t very optimistic about this genre.
“Well! Look who it is! Logan and Eden! Logan’s company is mired in a murder scandal, and you still have the mood to eat here? Aren’t you afraid the police will arrest you?”
Suddenly, an abrupt voice rang out. The group turned towards the source of the voice.
A middle-aged man with a big belly walked over slowly.
Several young men followed behind him, showing him great respect.
Logan looked at the man expressionlessly, “Mr. Mays.”
The middle-aged man was Keenan Mays, CEO of Urgford Mays Pharmaceuticals. Keenan and Longevity Pharmaceuticals were competitors, so their relationship was always hostile.
In certain formal occasions, they could coexist peacefully for appearances’ sake.
Now that Keenan saw Longevity Pharmaceuticals in trouble because of a murder case, he couldn’t be happier. Longevity Pharmaceuticals’ sales were always higher than Mays Pharmaceuticals’.
He didn’t expect to run into Logan here.
He smiled smugly, gloating over their misfortune.
“Oh my, Mr. Logan, our sales have been through the roof recently. The revenue is so high it’s scary. I’m at a loss for words.”
This blatant bragging!
But Logan remained unmoved, showing no signs of anger. “Congratulations, Mr. Mays.”
Keenan felt like he had punched cotton; he had expected Logan to be furious but got no reaction instead.
Feeling unsatisfied, he wanted to see Logan upset.
So he rolled his eyes and continued gleefully, “Oh Mr. Logan, your composure is truly admirable. If I were you, I’d be frantic by now. What’s this I hear about your chairman being a beautiful woman? Are you planning to live off her? Well, living off a woman must be nice!”
“Always having a woman to rely on!”
“Ah well, I can’t do that; no one would support me even if I wanted it.”
Logan’s face darkened as he coldly stared at Keenan’s unrestrained words. “Mr. Mays, watch your language.”
“I’m just stating facts!” Keenan sneered. “What? Can’t handle the truth? Don’t tell me you’re getting angry over this? I’m just joking.”
Just as Keenan was feeling triumphant, a cold female voice rang out suddenly. “You’ve said enough already; you’re quite noisy! I didn’t know when this restaurant started allowing crows in to caw incessantly.”
Keenan was stunned and looked at Sylvia. He was immediately struck by her beauty!
Such a beautiful woman; he hadn’t noticed her earlier because he was focused on provoking Logan.
Seeing such a stunning woman made his face show some lecherous intent. “Mr. Logan, you’re quite lucky! Having such a beautiful lady accompany you for a meal-count me in!”
He conveniently ignored Sylvia’s earlier insult calling him a crow.
Hearing his vulgar language made Sylvia’s expression grow colder and more indifferent. Her voice carried an icy edge. “Keep talking and get out!”
“Longevity Pharmaceuticals relies entirely on Logan. The chairman is always abroad; it’s the chairman who relies on Logan’s support. Got it?” Sylvia’s cold eyes glinted with frost as her face exuded an unapproachable chill.
As she looked at Keenan closely for a moment, she frowned slightly.
Something was off about this man!
Given his behavior, Mays Pharmaceuticals shouldn’t be doing so well.
His facial features suggested bad luck; how could Mays Pharmaceuticals be flourishing?
Clearly, he had borrowed luck or fortune from somewhere else.
But since he had crossed her path, she wouldn’t let it slide.
Sylvia discreetly moved her right hand holding the fork under the table and silently drew an invisible symbol in mid-air that flew into Keenan’s forehead.
No one else could see it.
She had already finished her work quietly.
She broke Keenan’s borrowed fortune; this despicable man often did disgusting things but never dared commit major crimes.
And who knew what kind of master his family had hired to give him some minor advantages? That’s why he was so arrogant now.
Seeing Sylvia’s strong aura made Keenan feel intimidated. Muttering some curses under his breath, he turned and left.
Eden sympathetically glanced at his brother. “Logan, don’t take it to heart.”
Logan wasn’t so fragile; instead, he felt honored by his association with Sylvia. “Take it to heart? I’m proud to rely on my boss. Without her, I wouldn’t be where I am today. And neither would you! If not for her, you’d still be struggling to transition even after five or ten more years.”
“Alright, alright, let’s not talk about this anymore; let’s eat.” Poppy quickly changed the subject. “Sis-in-law, do you think Eden should take this role?”
She brought the conversation back on track.
“I’m not very optimistic.” Sylvia shared her thoughts. “It’s too niche. While acting skills are important, so is box office performance. Box office results basically tell everything.”
