Sean Peterson
With Lauren and grandma by my side and Ryan in my arms, we headed out of the court. There, I saw Samantha and Levi arguing over something. This was bound to happen. Shaking my head at them I walked to my car and settled Ryan in the backseat.
I wanted to ignore the two arguing at my back but their voices rose to another level gaining not only mine but passerby’s attention too.
“You told me you will pull up some strings to win the case!” Samantha yelled at Levi. And he looked as if he would kill her there and then for yelling at him.
“You told me I will get my son back! But you did nothing! It was only me fighting to get my son back! One thing! I asked one thing, but you failed.” She screamed, creating an unnecessary scene.
“Don’t you dare yell at me!” Levi roared and stepped closer to her, pointing a finger at her. “What is my fault when you couldn’t prove yourself a mother before the judge! What is my fault when you were the one leaving proof of your bitchiness behind!”
“You listen to me Levi, we agreed to share the money my son has! And I want it! I am broke and I relied on you for the money and now I don’t care how, but you will give me the money! I want it from you!”
I shook my head at Levi. Served him right for being involved with the bitch!
“Money?! What money? We agreed to share Ryan’s fortune, but Ryan is gone now and I am not going to give you a single penny from my money.” Levi seethed.
“What?! How dare you mislead me!” She went hysterical. She raised her hand to slap Levi but he grabbed her hand mid-way.
Wow! It was amusing to me to watch them argue over something they could have never succeeded to get.
“How dare you raise your hand at me!” Levi looked dangerous. I saw Samantha visibly tremble. Her eyes showed instant fear.
“L…Levi…we are together right? You are supposed to help me in my crisis.” Her roars suddenly went down to the bottom.
Levi jerked her hand away and stepped back, running his hands through his hair. “You and I both know why we came together. But it’s of no use now and I have just realized that involving myself with you was the biggest mistake I have ever done. But now, I am in my right senses. If I stayed with you… I’ll be left with nothing and I don’t want to lose what I have. So, it’s over!”
With that, Levi walked away. She tried to stop him but Levi jerked her away. I was taken aback by what Levi did. It was the right decision he made but I didn’t expect him to realize his mistake that early. He was just being immature; he could work hard to expand his fortune, but he had always chosen the wrong ways. Being associated with Samantha was one of them.
“You Peterson’s are all bastards! Fuck you all!” Samantha screamed and I gritted my teeth. How dare she cuss my family! I would have shown her her place there and then, but I avoided being involved even in an argument with that dirty bitch.
Levi, while reaching for his car, halted his steps in front of me just for a second, glaring at me. And I took it as a chance to mock him.
“Told you, fucking Samantha is the stupidest thing you have ever done. Hope you have learned your lesson.”
He didn’t say a word. He gritted his teeth and left. Hope that the turn of events put some sense in him.
I raked my eyes back at Samantha, who was now fuming in anger, glaring at Levi’s back. Then her gaze settled on me and all of a sudden I saw her running towards me.
“You! You are the reason for all this! You snatched my son from me!”
I was caught off guard by her sudden movement and I thought she would attack me but before she could pounce on me, I was yanked back which made me stumble on my feet. A human shield protected me from her attack.
Lauren. She stood in front of me, stopping Samantha from coming near me. “Take a step further and I will show you how much of a crazy bitch I can be!” Her voice came hard as a rock; menacing and threatening.
Oops, Samantha had awakened the hulk.
“Lauren, I can handle her. Please step aside-” My words were caught in my throat when she sharply turned her face towards me.
“I will not let her anywhere near you, get that?” She narrowed her eyes at me. I saw her green face and I find it good for me to surrender to her. I lifted my hands in the air in mock surrender and let her lead the argument. I just have to stop her from committing a murder.
“You stay out of my way!” Samantha screamed at Lauren. “It’s between me and him, you are no one to interfere.”
“And I guess you have forgotten your last encounter with me. Talking about interference, I have every right to do so because SEAN IS MINE and one has to go through me to reach him. I will not let anyone harm the people I love.”
Wait, I was supposed to protect her from dangers, not the way around. However, I loved this fiery side of Lauren. She was just like me; hella protective for loved ones. And the way she claimed her possession on me was a fucking turn on.
Samantha scoffed. “Yours? New love, huh! Wait for the day when he kicks you out of his life because for these Petersons their reputation and fortune are everything. These greedy people can not love anyone.” Her eyes flicked to me as she gritted her teeth. “He will treat you the same I have been treated in this family. You will be left alone. Do not trust him.”
I glared at her to answer back for badmouthing about my family but Lauren beat me to it.
“You better leave my concern on me. I know who and what Sean is, I have known him longer than you have ever stayed with this family.” Lauren spoke and crossed her arms.
“And you are talking about trust? You are calling Petersons wrong and greedy when they are the reason for the life you have lived in these five years? The money you have been relishing on wasn’t even yours, it was given to you by your late husband. He made sure that even after him you never beg anyone for money. But what you did? You left your son behind to enjoy your husband’s money! And now when you are broke, you came back crying for your son, who apparently, has the only thing you want. Money. What a bitchy move! But again, what can we expect from a disgusting, gold-digging bitch like you!”
Whoa, Whoa, Whoa. What a befitting reply!
Lauren Hart
I felt proud of myself.
Honestly, I was no one to judge her but she shouldn’t be blaming others when she was at fault too. I didn’t care what she did with her life, it was her life and it was only her to decide what to do with her life. But if her actions affect someone else then she was wrong on her part. I just showed her the mirror of what she had been doing wrong.
She had been glaring at me, her body shaking in anger, her eyes twitching. Oh, she had nothing left to say, but I had.
I daringly stepped closer to her and jabbed my index finger against her shoulder. “You wouldn’t have been in this situation begging to get your son back if you had shown even an ounce of care for your son and respect to your late husband. Now face the consequences of your own doings.”
And I stepped back, not leaving my gaze from her. As I was taking more steps back, my back slammed into someone. I didn’t have to turn to see who it was; the warmth that spread throughout my body was enough to tell me it was Sean. I felt him brush his fingers up my arms as he lightly grasped my upper arm. His breath suddenly fanned my neck.
“You have said enough, Lauren. Let me handle her now.” He whispered.
I frowned and swatting his hands away I whirled to face him. “Not today, Sean.” I crossed my hands across my chest. “She was saved from me by you, but this time this will not happen. I am gonna teach her final lesson so that she doesn’t create more problems.”
“I understand your concern, Lauren but-”
Sean was cut off by the high pitched, irritating voice of Samantha. “I am not gonna leave you for insulting me!”
Before any of us could react to her, I felt myself being pushed harshly on the concrete ground. First, my left wrist crashed against the ground, and then my forearm, then my elbow, and then my right wrist took the blow. I groaned when excruciating pain hit me.
“Lauren!” Sean shouted and immediately crouched down before me. Grandma too rushed to me. Sean grasped my wrist that was slammed against the ground, causing me to cry in pain. Either it was fractured or it was sprained because the pain I felt almost threatened my soul to leave my body. It hurt like bitch. And I didn’t know when tears rolled down my face.
“Crap! You are bleeding, Lauren.” Sean blurted in worry as he examined my left arm. My forearm and elbow had suffered light scrapes. He took out his handkerchief from his pocket and pressed it over my elbow, and I hissed.
“No, don’t touch it.” The searing pain of the fresh wound made me ultra-sensitive.
“Lauren!” All of our eyes moved from my hands to worried Ryan who rushed out of the car. He sprinted to me and stood at a distance from me, his gaze fixed on my bleeding hands. “You are hurt.”
“Ryan I am fine just go back inside the car,” I ordered him softly, fearing Samantha could make a move to harm him.
“No, you are hurt. I don’t wanna leave.” His lower lip began to tremble as his voice came out in a low whisper. I looked over at grandma gesturing her to hold Ryan since I couldn’t.
“This is what you get when you cross me!” I heard Samantha gritted out venomously. “I am so, so satisfied to see you in pain.”
God, how could she be so insensitive? Perhaps she needed a therapist.
Sean shot her a deadly glare and was about to stand up probably to shout at her but he as well as I froze when Mr. Peterson’s voice boomed.
“What the hell is happening here?!” I craned my neck to see Mr. And Mrs. Peterson rushing towards us. Both of their eyes turned wide when they saw my bleeding arm.
Mr. Peterson glared at Samantha, who visibly shivered under his deathly gaze. Oh, she was scared of him. Good!
“You! You did this to her?!” He took menacing steps towards her. “You haven’t learned your lesson, have you?” His voice held so much intensity that even I shivered. Whoa man, he was dangerous!
“Listen, you awful woman. Though you ran away to live your life the way you wanted, I never objected because I was glad that you were out of my house. I never liked you; I only tolerated you because my son chose you. But not anymore. You have done enough. If you dare harm any of my family members…remember…” He took another dangerous step closer to her, pointing a finger at her.
“I will throw you out of the city.”
Whoa! The man had powers. Well, he kinda had.
“I am warning you, Samantha, stay away from my family. Being the head of the family, I snatch all the remaining rights from you that you had as the wife of my son! Live the way you want for all I care but don’t mess with my family again!”
Damn! That was a hella amazing threat.
Mrs. Peterson, who had been listening to her husband threatening Samantha, now stepped towards her and without warning, she slapped her. Hard. Ouch!
“I too never said anything to you but it doesn’t mean I wasn’t offended by what you did. You disrespected my deceased son. You hurt his dead soul by leaving his little son behind. We loved you as our daughter, we gave you everything you asked for but you ruined our family’s name.” Her eyes flicked to me for a microsecond then flicked back at Samantha who was now standing like a scaredy-cat with her hand on her cheek where Mrs. Peterson had slapped her.
“The slap is not enough for what you have done to my family, but I am not going to make my hand dirtier by touching you again. You better leave before I file a case against you for harming my family member.” Mrs. Peterson snapped at her.
Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! My jaw dropped on the ground like I was pushed on the ground. For the moment, I forgot that I was bleeding and in pain. The scene before my eyes had all my attention.
Aww, Sean’s parents considered me their family member. I wanted to cry. I swear they took my heart away for standing up for me.
“Just what have you done to my parent?” Sean’s surprised voice reached my ears.
“Exactly my thoughts!” I was equally surprised. What exactly did I do that made them take a stand for their family which probably they never did before? Right now, they didn’t seem to care about their reputation since they were snapping in the middle of the road, in the presence of numerous people.
“For one thing I know, I did not give him life threats that forced their change of heart. Even if I did, I am pretty sure my threats wouldn’t work on them.” I responded absent-mindedly.
“Then this is some sort of miracle.” I heard Sean say. A frown appeared on my face and I tore my gaze from the couple to look at Sean.
“Hey, don’t snatch my credits!” Well, I did help them realize their responsibilities.
He too tore his shocked gaze from his parents and looked down at me, lovingly. “My Lauren, my hulk. You did not let me complete. The miracle I was referring to is you.”
Ah! The butterflies. I feel butterflies whenever he calls me hulk. It does not at all offend me, instead, it makes my heart flutter.
I saw him move his hand to touch my face but in the process, his arm touched my wound which brought us back to my injury.
I hissed. “Oww!”
“Shit! You need to go to the hospital.” Sean said and carefully helped me stand up.
He wanted to lift me but I gave him a look of disapproval telling him that I could walk since my legs were perfectly working. He rolled his eyes and ushered me to the car. However, I did not miss the daggers shot at me by Samantha but I didn’t pay heed to her because if I did, I would have snatched every single strand of her hair.
Huh! How I would have enjoyed that! I sighed. But that’s fine, I had said I was needed to be said. Hope she won’t bring more troubles to our lives.
Ryan and Grandma sat in the backseat and we took off to the hospital. What I did not know was Sean’s parents were following us. Another surprise of the day!
At the hospital, the doctor examined me, and luckily nor did I have a fractured wrist or gashes. But I had a sprained wrist and few scratches here and there on my left forearm and elbow, and a tiny scratch in the middle of my right wrist and palm. Though there was nothing to worry about, Sean and grandma took it as I had suffered a deep injury and could not move on my own.
The doctor wrapped a crepe bandage around my sprained wrist and bandaged my other scratches and advised me to take a good amount of rest at home but Sean insisted to hospitalize me. Like seriously? I could not stay at the hospital for such a minor injury. I argued until he raised the white flag.
“You are a strong woman, Lauren. I am sure you will be fit as a fiddle in no time.” Mrs. Peterson said to me when we came out of the hospital room. I passed a small smile at her.
She then looked at Sean. “Take good care of her, Sean.”
“You don’t have to remind me about that, it’s my duty to take care of her.” He responded, not sarcastically, but awkwardly.
“Martha, we must leave now. I have a meeting to attend.” Mr. Peterson commented, gaining all of our attention. He was still being tough.
They still had a long way to go to mend their relationship. But it’s okay, something was better than nothing.
Sean did not utter a word, just nodded his head. They both lovingly patted Ryan’s head which perplexed Ryan to the core. Poor kid, he probably must have felt their love for the first time.
They both were about to leave when I remembered something and stopped them from leaving. I approached them.
“Thank you for coming,” I muttered politely. “And I hope I didn’t offend you with my words, I am sorry again if I did,” I added quickly.
Mrs. Peterson chuckled, looking at me with those warm eyes. “There’s no need to apologize, Lauren. We were at fault too.”
I felt relieved that they weren’t mad at me even a bit. Most specifically I was concerned about what Mr. Peterson thought of me. He seemed to be a person who doesn’t show his feelings, but I wouldn’t be satisfied if said nothing to me. Well, he did say I am brave, but still, I wanted him to say something, anything to me. In hope of hearing something from him, I stood there, studying his expressions.
He may not speak to his son, but I was different. I would pester him until he opens his mouth and confesses his feelings that I knew he was hiding.
He too didn’t move an inch. After a while, he sighed and took a step closer to me, and patted my head.
“Take good care of yourself…and my sons.” His voice was a whisper but it was enough to heighten my emotions. “Though Sean will not let anything fall short for you. Still, don’t hesitate to contact me if you need anything.”
He passed me a small smile and a knowing look at his son, then they both left.
“You heard what he said?” I squealed like a little kid as I faced Sean.
“Yeah, I did. You seem to have gotten in his good books. Well, congratulations.” He passed me a tight-lipped smile.
“Hey, don’t be sarcastic.” I scowled.
“Sarcastic, me? Nah! It’s just that…my parents who until today never showed their love to me are blessing you as if they know you inside out. Cute, isn’t it?”
I rolled my eyes at his taunting. He was being jealous, nothing else.
“Come, Lauren, I will help you walk.” Ryan carefully held my hand. I chuckled at him; he thought I needed assistance in walking.
“Is it still hurting?” He asked, rubbing his tiny fingers over the bandage.
“Just a bit, but don’t worry I will be fine soon.” I ruffled his hair with my free hand. We both exchanged smiles. Then we, along with grandma and Sean walked towards the car to get back home.
