Quentin said, “Three years ago, I had already left that place and was sent to the frontier, fighting on the battlefield, surviving through gunfire and bullets.”
“Later, I was assigned to blend in with the civilians to handle some special tasks, so now I am relatively free,” Quentin explained.
Upon hearing this, Charlotte sneered, “Then how did you get involved with such a big shot? Don’t tell me it was because of your charm, haha!”
Quentin was speechless. It really was because of his charm; otherwise, why would Virginia pay attention to him? If not for his charm, then what? He wasn’t sure what Virginia saw in him.
However, he dared not say this out loud. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to explain the situation, and Charlotte would definitely kill him.
“Because during a patrol at the frontier, someone in our team saved her, and I happened to be the leader of that small team, so she respected me. We really aren’t close.”
“That person who saved her was you, right? No wonder Miss Moran looks at you differently. You really are something, a hero saving the beauty and capturing her heart. Impressive!” Charlotte’s tone suddenly turned sour.
She thought, why would such a good thing happen to her?
It turned out that Virginia had feelings for Quentin, and now that Time Group was in her hands, it had something to do with Virginia’s feelings for Quentin!
So what did that make her, Charlotte? Someone who accepted charity from a rival in love? She couldn’t bear that!
She suddenly got angry. “If you had told me earlier, I would never have accepted anyone’s charity. Quentin, if you can’t do it yourself, don’t make empty promises!”
“Now, you want me, Charlotte, to accept charity from a woman who likes you? What does that make me? How will others see me? Have you thought about that?”
She took a deep breath and said, “I do want to start a beauty company. The resources I have would go to waste if not used. But under these circumstances, my rival gives me benefits and I accept them?”
“What does that make me?”
Seeing her so emotional, Quentin quickly explained, “Things are not as you think. Virginia and I have nothing going on. Why don’t you believe me?”
“Besides, we are partners now! Business partners! Why bring personal feelings into this?”
“Is this charity? This is clearly a bet! I believe in you!”
“Stop-” Charlotte interrupted him directly, tears welling up in her eyes. She took a deep breath and said, “My mind is a mess right now. Don’t bother me, understand?”
Quentin swallowed his words. Charlotte turned and walked away. Just as he was about to follow her, Charlotte shouted, “Don’t follow me!”
Charlotte then rushed out of the auction house. Quentin followed her silently outside but saw Nash coming out from the side. Nash said, “Charlotte, what’s wrong?”
Seeing Nash, Charlotte slowly lifted her head to hide her distress and said, “I’m fine.”
She glanced at Quentin in the distance and smiled faintly. “You don’t look well. How about I take you home?”
Charlotte hesitated for a moment but then nodded. “Okay!”
Since Quentin could be ambiguous with Virginia and make her so angry, why couldn’t she turn the tables and upset Quentin?
“Alright then, sorry for the trouble, Nash!”
“Let’s go-” Nash smiled triumphantly and opened the car door for Charlotte like a gentleman. Charlotte got in and slammed the door shut with a bang!
The car sped off into the distance!
Quentin arrived just in time to see them leave. It felt like a heavy blow to his chest, making it hard to breathe. His fists clenched tightly…
