In total, it took a full ten minutes to completely change. He tossed his shirt in a bush and allowed his trousers to fall as he walked.
Once again, modesty was not in a werewolves nature.
As soon as he was on all fours, he put on a burst of speed and ran as fast as he could. He tried to focus on getting his thoughts together and calming down, though it wasn’t easy.
The bond was the first thing that came to mind, mostly because it was nagging at the back of his consciousness as he sensed Jasper’s presence close behind him. If there was anything he wanted to forget, it was that he was bonded to that bastard.
Angrily he started leaping over logs, dodging under fallen branches, and slipping through bushes. That seemed to irritate the Alpha as he too put on a burst of speed, only this time he easily caught up to Darren and cut him off by practically leaping over his head.
Surprised at having a much larger wolf fall out of the sky, Darren stopped in his tracks and stared at the snarling monster. In this form, they couldn’t talk, but if he could, he’d be telling the guy to fuck off.
With a snort, Darren turned back towards the Alphas house. This time Jasper kept at his side. Darren snapped whenever he came too close and mourned the days he could go for a run by himself, but he wasn’t allowed to do that here thanks to the pack’s rules.
Angrily he passed up their discarded clothes, confusing Jasper as he continued around the house and slowed to a trot. Turning back, he stood right beside the man’s Nissan. As the Alpha watched, Darren lifted a leg and pissed on one of the tires.
Jasper suddenly yelped at him, his tail raised, and dove for the rogue. Darren didn’t run though and stood his ground as the other wolf stopped just inches from his face. Despite his snarls, the Alpha didn’t bite. The rogue quickly finished his business and began trotting around the Alpha, unaffected by his fake attacks.
Hopefully Jasper understood that Darren had no interest in being friends.
Beth and Kenny arrived later in the evening, long after Jasper and Darren had shifted back. Jasper was the first one dressed and ready to greet them, while Darren tried to delay it as much as possible by saying he had to get a fresh set of clothes. Since he didn’t have a large assortment of clothing with him, it wasn’t much of a delay and he eventually went to join them in the dining room.
He heard someone behind him in the hall and he turned in time to see that Gerrit had just arrived home. The man smiled at him. Darren ! I heard you’d be coming back. Are you okay after the other day ?
The rogue couldn’t help but notice the black eye that Gerrit now sported. I should be asking you.
Darren ? Jasper called from the dining room, taking notice of the rogues presence. Come over here.
Darren groaned, not wanting to comply but knowing he had to, and Gerrit laughed softly. I’m fine. Don’t worry and good luck. He gave a short salute before heading upstairs.
The rogue then turned and stood away from the trio. He didn’t want to be caught up by Jasper’s scent, but also knew that the two Betas had it out for him.
Why is he here ? Kenny snorted.
Maybe because I’m not the one who punched the Alpha’s son ? What about you ? How are you still here ? Darren quipped.
Beth snarled at her partners defense. Watch your mouth !
Watch your temper. We wouldn’t want you to hurt another fellow pack member. Isn’t that what I’m supposed to do ?
This time it was Jasper that had to stop the Betas from attacking. Enough ! he ordered. Just tell me what you found.
The two shot one more glare in Darren’s direction before finally standing down. We didn’t find anything. He was from out of town so no one really knew him. Red Point is pretty big though, so we can try again tomorrow.
Maybe I should go with you ? Jasper suggested, but Kenny frowned.
No. The Beta argued. It might be suspicious. What if the murderer is hiding in Red Point ? Having an Alpha show up all of a sudden would alert them to the fact that we have a lead.
Wouldn’t it already be pretty telling if the Alpha’s personal Betas are seen running around asking questions ? Darren pointed out.
Beth grimaced at him. No one asked you !
He’s part of this investigation guys. Jasper chimed in. I’d appreciate it if you at least tried to get along.
Darren cocked his head and looked expectantly at them. The Beta looked ready to rip his throat out, but she ultimately obeyed. Only a few people even know that we’re Jasper’s personal Betas.
Gee, you hide it so well. The rogue chastised.
Can I please punch him ? Beth begged Jasper, who shook his head. She pouted and shoved passed the rogue instead.
Alright, we’ll let you know if we find anything tomorrow. She muttered on her way out.
Hey Kenny ! Jasper stopped the other Beta from leaving just yet. How was Holly’s birthday by the way ? I didn’t get a chance to ask earlier. She just turned five, right ?
Kenny shrugged. Amelia didn’t want to hold a big party, but we did take her out to the kids play zone for the day.
That’s good. Jasper nodded. Try heading home early tomorrow. I don’t want your wife to get mad at me for keeping you out all the time.
She’ll love that, thanks. Kenny chuckled before leaving.
As the Beta left, Darren couldn’t help but gape after him. Kenny’s a father ?!
Why are you surprised ? Jasper turned to him. He’s twenty six.
I’m just surprised anyone would want to tap that.
Kenny’s a good guy when you get to know him. Jasper promised, then made his way upstairs with a yawn. It’s late, we should head to bed.
I’d rather stay up.
No can do. You know the rules. Come on.
Darren huffed, but followed. Why does he get to choose when to go to bed ?
Now that their company was gone, the two changed into their pajamas. Darren opted to use the restroom again, and when he stepped out he was greeted by the Alpha’s six pack. Darren ripped his eyes away when he felt his body begin to heat up. The last thing he needed was for Jasper to notice he was in heat.
Flopping onto his little pile of blankets, Darren focused his thoughts on little old ladies to push away the more provocative images that tried to invade his imagination.
You sure you don’t want to sleep up here ? Jasper asked as he crawled into bed. Its more comfortable than the floor.
Anywhere within a ten mile radius of you is uncomfortable. Darren snapped, then buried his head in his pillow to block out Jasper’s scent.
Jasper didn’t push and soon he seemed to fall fast asleep. Unfortunately the rogue was having technical difficulties as his mind kept switching between old ladies and Jaspers muscles. At one point the two images merged into old women with greased up pecs, and he knew he was going to have nightmares that night.
Then the scent in the room got stronger.
Even through the pillow he could smell Jasper, but it was not his usual scent. It was strong and musky, which was odd since no ones scent was supposed to change like that so drastically. As he wondered what the heck the Alpha was doing in bed, he suddenly felt a tug on their mate bond.
The Collar was able to block the worst of it, but Darren could still feel the pull at the back of his mind, keeping him awake. Irritated, he sat up and glanced at the Alpha, ready to make up an excuse to leave the room, then realized that the man was still asleep.
Jasper was laying face down on his bed, hugging his pillow tightly as his hips ground against the mattress. Every so often, he’d make a soft grunt, then grind a little harder as the man bit his bottom lip.
Clearly Darren wasn’t the only one in heat, and he realized the musky scent was Jasper’s pheromones going off.
As the scent got stronger, Darren tried to bury his head under his pillow again, but it was too late. His body was already heating up as his imagination was bombarded by images of the mans rippling muscles. The soft moans coming from the unconscious Alpha were just the icing on the cake as his lower half began to react.
Rock hard and wide awake, Darren knew he wouldn’t be able to shower this away like before. So, making sure Jasper was still asleep, he snuck into the bathroom to take care of himself.
He felt shameful every moment of it, wishing he could find release with anything other than images of Jasper. Unfortunately his body would not cooperate with his imagination and he decided to just get it over with. As soon as he was done, he looked around for some cleaner and wiped down the toilet, making sure the scent of his deed was obscured by chemicals.
