EASTON
I knew soon that Zane’s next plan of action was to attack another park after the party. I knew that the purpose of organizing the party was to properly identify his victims, the weakest pack that he could easily ambush.
I wasn’t surprised for a moment that he kept track of his target, but what left my jaw dropped was that it was too soon. Usually, it takes him four to five months to completely execute a plan for his attacks, but I guess he was running low on resources or something for him to be in haste.
“What are you going to do about it?” Black asked, bringing me out of my reverie. “Are you going to stop him now or permit him to attack the pack?”
I stared at Black blankly, not sure of the next step to take, my message to the alpha king had not seen any response yet and going on such a mission without being granted access was deemed treason.
Although I wouldn’t mind the consequences, but my Luna’s life would be on the line. Notwithstanding, I would be saving the day; seeing that the Alpha king had decided to take pleasure in watching the people he swore to protect suffer, I didn’t mind working in his stead.
But why had he been quiet on the issue, would he be delighted to watch Zane destroy his people? Had he been paid for this, or had they any secret deal that nobody knew of? I pondered over these and came to a conclusion that I would find out whatever it was that he was keeping from the world.
“Easton!!” Black yelled, bringing me out of my reverie, “Why are you lost?” He asked.
“Arrh…! He does that a lot,” answered Laycon.
“You don’t mean this… So how do you cope?” Black asked, and I watched a smirk escaped Laycon’s lips.
“I’m already used to it, you should get used to it too because it will continue until everything he has going on in his head has stabilized,” Laycon answered sarcastically and I rolled my eyes.
“There is this thing you both are good at and have great teamwork at that, and that’s teasing me. Anyway, I apologized. When will they strike?” I asked, getting back to business.
“Four days from now, he has assembled the best of his warriors, and they will match through the gates ready to attack,” Black answered, and I sighed.
“Get me a map,” I said, snapping my fingers at the male omega who was standing in a corner of the room. He bowed as he ran out. Soon, he came back with a map in his hand and quickly spread it on the table.
“Which route would they be taking?” I asked, I wanted to be sure of the path that I would be laying the perfect ambush for them.
“This one,” Black said as he pointed to a spot on the map, “they are going to pass through the Emlow route and then enter through the Shimmering Lane. That’s where I heard they would follow, and since Zane hadn’t encountered any attacks before now, I doubt he would see this coming. So where would you like to station your warriors?” He asked, and I sighed, shifting my seat closer to look at the dotted prints Black had made on the map.
“How about my troops positioning themselves in between the Emlow and Shimmering lanes, and that’s here,” I said while pointing to a particular spot, “the Cauram lane, that is the centre position between the two routes. There is no way they won’t pass through this place, or what do you both think?” I inquired from them.
“That’s a great idea, but how about we attack them at the Emlow route? The route is very narrow; It would be to our own advantage,” Laycon opined.
“I think Laycon’s suggestion is better because from what I have observed, you train your troopers to fight in both wide and narrow spaces, unlike Zane. If we attack them at the Emlow route, we would be able to fight them without your troops sustaining injuries, but if we were at the Cauram lane, then your troops would face severe opposition. Just so you know, Zane’s men are very good, too. Fighting at our own convenience is the best we can do for ourselves,” Black added.
I paused to look at the map painstakingly before I could understand it from their standpoint. They were right; my troopers would be at an advantage while we slayed them all with ease.
“Andrea!!” I called out on Andrea, who was stationed at the entrance of my door. The door opened quickly, and Andrea walked in.
I pointed at the map in front of him before scribbling everything we had said on it.
“Take this to your leader, tell him we move in three days so as to lay a perfect ambush for our target. Inform him of the many lives that are involved. If you succeed in taking them down, you would be saving men, women, and their children. Hurry up, Andrea!” I commanded. He bowed and hurriedly left the room.
“Thank you for this piece of information, I appreciate your efforts towards stopping Zane,” I said, expressing gratitude.
“It is what everyone in my place would do to eliminate Zane, but I’m guessing they are too scared to. I really don’t mind risking my life to help out,” Black assured me.
“Thank you, Black… and please extend my greetings to your boss. Errm… There’s something else I would like to inquire from you,” I said.
“It’s about your future Luna, isn’t it?” Black inquired, and I nodded.
“I can’t tell you so much of it right now, but I promise you, we will find a way to make her come to you. Soon, some of the slaves would be used to run errands, I will make sure to have you see her, but in the meantime, we need to focus on what’s on ground,” Black added.
“How long does it take for them to be trusted enough to be sent on an errand, when and where is this place going to be? How often would she be allowed to leave the pack?” I asked so many questions even though I knew Black was already getting fed up.
I just wanted to see her again, to know if she would ever change her mind towards me. If she insisted on the rejection, then I would have no choice but to have them removed forcefully from Zane’s pack. Come what may. We shouldn’t all be scared.
“I will send words to you when it is time, Easton. Please do have patience, do not do anything drastic and ruin the plans we have coming, sir,” Black advised, and my hand clenched.
“It seems both you and Laycon have forgotten your manners. Do I need to remind you both who I am to you? I am still your master, I do what I like and you answer to me,” I retorted, and Black raised his hands up as a cue of surrender.
“I know I’m a little bit of a scatterbrain lately, but that doesn’t mean I have forgotten my duties as the Alpha. There’s no responsible alpha who would sit still and watch his mate being enslaved to someone like Zane and his insensitive elders,” I said in disgust.
“Well I guess I haven’t told you the full story yet, I bet you wouldn’t like it when I’m done telling you,” Black said with his gaze fixed on me.
“What is it that I need to know?” I asked anxiously, my curiosity piqued.
“You are not the only mate of Eleanor… I’m sorry to break this sad news to you, but it seems your worst enemy, or should I say, your rival is also her mate, ” Black said, dropping the bomb on me.
I was completely broken when I heard him say Zane was also Eleanor’s mate. So many thoughts kept flashing through my mind; I started to question my instinct. Had she rejected me to be with Zane?
I couldn’t believe she would choose Zane over me. Who would choose a murderer over someone like me? Perhaps there was something going on that I needed to find out, but that wasn’t the issue on ground.
I was boiling inside like a volcano ready to erupt. The thought of Zane’s hands all over Eleanor was driving me insane.
“Easton!!” Laycon yelled. Just then did I realized what I had done. My anger had caused my claws to sprout, and I had completely destroyed the seat I was sitting on.
“Damn!! I need to know… are they mated?” I asked, my heart beating fast. I was scared of the answers that Black would give, I was scared that I had lost her even before the flames of our romance started burning.
“No” Black answered, and I heaved a sigh of relief. “She just wants revenge on Zane, so you still have a chance. That’s why I said I would send her to you when the time is right. Just sit still and wait for me, Alpha Easton,” Black added and when I was about to reply to him, the door flung open and another sentinel walked in, kneeling on one leg and bowing her head.
I had tried my best to put an end to the kind of greetings I was getting from them, but the more I tried to stop them, the more incessant it became, so I had to accept it, as I hoped that they would adjust with time. I hoped that soon they would just address me as alpha Easton instead of bowing down or getting on their knees and other things they do before they state their purpose.
“Stand up, Alice! You can state your purpose of being here,” I answered, and she immediately stood up.
“You have a guest; Alpha Zane of the Blood Moon pack and his Beta, Mark is here to see you.”
