Gabriella’s POV
“To hell with your food. Let me tell you all something now. It’s better you let me go while you still can because when Alpha Nicklaus gets here, you won’t live another day to tell the story,” I warned, confident that Nicklaus would find us and come to our rescue.
“You dare threaten us? Who do you think you are?”
“I’m not threatening you. I’m simply giving you a warning to save yourself while you can. When he arrives, heads will roll,” I said, locking eyes with him fiercely.
“You’re quite audacious, Omega. Sorry to break your heart, but your Alpha won’t be coming here to save you today. We distracted him. Who knows, by now, he might have realized he was tricked. He’ll be angry with himself for being a fool and letting us get the better of him.”
“What did you do to him? Tell me, you bastard,” I yelled at him, tears streaming down my face.
“It’s about time for my surprise. The wolf bane mixed with silver will be aimed directly at his heart. It’ll be his goodbye. And as for your daughter-”
“Please don’t. Please.”
“Now you’re pleading. It’s too late. Let me rephrase your sentence for you. After we’re done with your husband and we take your child, you won’t live to witness another day to tell your daughter bedtime stories again,” he laughed wickedly, reveling in his malevolence. I desperately tried to reach Leah, “Leah, I need you now.”
“I’m here. I’m sorry we failed, but let’s have faith in our mate,” she said, her voice brimming with resolve.
“What if they kill him and take away my daughter?”
“You worry too much, Leah. Missing our mark in this encounter doesn’t mean it’s all over. Just remain calm and wait for Nick to come to our rescue along with the youngster,” she advised, trying to assuage my fears.
One of them was engaged in a phone call, and he was laughing as he spoke, saying, “I knew it was going to work, and our Alpha will promote us to a higher rank.” Did that mean Nick had failed? No, no, it couldn’t be that Nick had failed so easily.
Nicklaus’s POV
“Beta Martins, it’s a trap to draw you all out of the pack. The Luna and the youngster were ambushed.”
“WHAT??” I staggered upon hearing this. How did I let this happen? I got tricked by the Black Moon pack. No way, I will protect my mate at all costs, but will it be too late before I get there?
“Give me the phone,” I said to Martins, and he passed the phone to me. “Go there now to save them with the rest of the warriors. It will take until nightfall to get there, and it might be too late,” I added.
“Alpha Nick, we apologize. We just arrived, and there’s no sign of them or the enemies. There’s only blood on the ground.”
“How dare you report such news to me? I will rip your head off if my queen is not found by the time I arrive. Gather everyone and search for them. Is that clear?”
“Yes, Alpha.”
“By the way, I ordered you all to always protect her and never let her out of your sight. What happened to my command? Did you defy it?”
“We were tricked, Alpha. One of the women told us that the Luna asked her to give us a treat for our hard work, and we fell asleep after eating it.”
“Who is this woman?”
“We don’t know her, Alpha. We searched the entire area, but she’s nowhere to be found.”
“Do you have a picture of her?”
“No, Alpha.”
“Just find my queen.” I ended the call and roared, destroying everything in my path.
“Nick, pull yourself together. We’re going to save Gabby, and the blood they found might not be hers. I can still feel her,” Lethal said. He was right; if something truly happened to her, like death, I would feel an emptiness inside. There’s still hope.
“Mateo, let’s return to the pack. We now have new female informants in the pack.”
“Alpha Nicklaus, look. This is a wolf footprint, and over here, human footprints. Someone was here. We need to find out who this person is, and I believe they know the Luna’s whereabouts.”
“Good eye. Let’s split up and search for this person. The footprints are still fresh; the person might not have gone too far. Alert the others,” I ordered, and he nodded.
I took a different route, sniffing the air for any traces, but I found nothing except for the strange scent of blood on the ground. I hated the smell of blood.
Suddenly, I felt a presence and followed the direction of the scent. The person ran, and I chased after them, utilizing my wolf’s speed. But I lost them again.
“Stop playing hide and seek. Come out and face me. Let’s fight man to man,” I called out, scanning the area. There was no sign of anyone.
I closed my eyes and activated my wolf’s red eyes to scan the area. I noticed a specific tree where the branches were shaking, as if someone had jumped through them. They thought they were being clever; the person must be hiding there. However, it turned out to be a distraction, and suddenly, a gunshot rang out. A paralyzing dart hit my skin, rendering me immobile. What could I do? If the bullet hit me, I might not survive.
