Sophia’s POV
The authoritative Wolf Hunters exchanged uncertain glances, clearly taken aback by my proposal. They had never encountered such a gesture of commitment before.
One of them, a stern-looking man, finally spoke. “This is a bold offer, Luna, but how can we be sure that this covenant will hold? A hundred years ago, a human girl made a similar covenant, and peace was shattered. Her soul was offered to the Moon Goddess, and yet, it didn’t prevent the war.”
I took a deep breath, understanding the weight of history behind his words. “I believe that this time is different. Alexander, Tyler, Jake, and I, we all trust each other completely. We are willing to do everything in our power to prevent the Moon Goddess from consuming my soul. I am confident that we can make this covenant hold.”
Alexander’s expression was conflicted as he looked at me, “Sophia, I can’t bear the thought of you making such a sacrifice. There must be another way.”
Tyler and Jake, who had been silent until now, nodded in agreement with Alexander. “We can’t let you do this, Sophia,” Tyler said firmly.
But I remained resolute. “I appreciate your concern, but I am the most suitable guarantor for this covenant. As a human, I can vouch for the Wolf Hunters, and as the Luna of the Shadow City, I can vouch for the werewolves. I trust all of you completely, and I believe that we can make this work. There are no more objections from the Wolf Hunters present.”
The air in the room had grown heavy with tension, and I could feel Alexander’s anger radiating from him in waves. He was adamantly refusing to allow me to offer my soul for the sake of peace, and his fury was palpable.
“Absolutely not, Sophia!” he shouted, his voice filled with anger. “I won’t allow you to make such a sacrifice. It’s too dangerous, too reckless!”
I stood my ground, my own emotions running high, my voice unwavering. “Alexander, you have to understand. So many humans and werewolves have died because of misunderstandings between our two sides. We have to do something, and this blood covenant is the most powerful gesture we can make to solidify our commitment to peace.”
His eyes burned with frustration, and he clenched his fists at his sides. “I can’t believe you’re even considering this, Sophia! I would never put you in such danger, not even for the sake of peace. ”
Tears welled up in my eyes as I reached out to him, my voice trembling with emotion. “Alexander, please, try to understand. I’m not just your lover; I’m the Luna of the Shadow City, and I’m a part of humanity. I want to protect this newfound peace, to create a world where our son and daughter can grow up in love and harmony, free from fear. I want them to have a future that’s different from the one we’ve known.”
I continued, my voice barely above a whisper, “During the time you were away, fighting against the Rogues, I couldn’t sleep. I felt as though my soul was on edge, torn between my love for you and my duty to my people. I can’t bear to endure such a situation any longer, and I can’t fathom the lives of both werewolves and humans being torn apart by prejudice.”
Alexander’s anger seemed to waver, replaced by a tormented hesitation. He paced back and forth, his hands raking through his hair as he grappled with the decision before him. The room fell into a heavy silence, the weight of our choices hanging in the air like a dark cloud.
The room fell into a heavy silence as my words hung in the air. The weight of our decision bore down on us all. Finally, Alexander sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat.
“Very well, Sophia,” he said, his voice heavy with resignation. “If this is what it takes to secure peace, then we will do it.”
Tyler and Jake reluctantly agreed, their expressions filled with concern for my safety. But they, too, understood the gravity of the situation.
With the decision made, I took a deep breath and stepped forward. I reached for a ceremonial knife, a symbol of the covenant, and carefully cut my own finger, letting a few drops of my blood fall into a bowl. Alexander, Tyler, and Jake followed suit, their expressions solemn.
We stood in a circle, our hands joined over the bowl, and I began the oath. “I, Sophia, Luna of the Shadow City, pledge on behalf of the werewolves that we will never harm humans. If we break this covenant, I willingly offer my soul to the Moon Goddess.”
One by one, Alexander, Tyler, and Jake repeated the oath, their voices steady and resolute. The room seemed to hold its breath as the binding words filled the air, sealing our commitment to peace with the weight of centuries of conflict behind them.
As the last words of the oath echoed in the room, I felt a profound sense of responsibility and hope. We had taken a monumental step towards peace, and I was determined to do everything in my power to ensure that our commitment held strong. The future was uncertain, but we had chosen the path of cooperation and reconciliation, and I believed that it was a path worth fighting for.
Finally, Alexander turned to me, his gaze filled with a mixture of anguish and acceptance. “Sophia, I can’t deny your conviction and your love for our people. I still worry about the danger this covenant poses, but I also see the importance of it. If this is the path you believe in, if you’re willing to make this sacrifice for the sake of peace, then I will stand by your side.”
I felt a flood of relief wash over me, tears streaming down my cheeks. I rushed into his arms, burying my face in his chest, overcome with gratitude for his understanding and support. “Thank you, Alexander. Thank you for believing in me and in our dream of a better world.”
