Alexander’s POV
As I finally settled into a moment of respite, my phone buzzed, and I glanced at the caller ID. It was Sophia. I answered with a curious tone, wondering why she was calling at this hour.
“Sophia, what’s going on?” I inquired.
Her voice came through with a mixture of concern and urgency. “Alexander, I just wanted to let you know that Daniel, Daisy, and Emilia are on their way to the mansion.”
I couldn’t help but feel a rush of irritation at the news. “Why aren’t they still in Shadow City? I thought I made it clear that they were to stay there for the time being.”
Sophia’s voice remained calm as she explained. “Ethan said… Emilia insisted on coming, and she convinced the kids to join her. She said she had some important information to share with you.”
I sighed, feeling my frustration grow. “Alright, prepare a car for me. I’ll be heading home as soon as possible.”
I knew Emilia was my cousin, but she had a knack for getting herself into trouble, and I wasn’t thrilled about her unexpected visit. As I drove back to the mansion, my mind raced with thoughts about what Emilia could possibly want and why she had brought my children along.
When I arrived, I could see them in the living room, Emilia chatting animatedly with Daniel and Daisy. I approached them with a stern expression, crossing my arms over my chest.
“Emilia,” I began, “I thought you were grounded for three months. Why are you here?”
Emilia looked up at me with a nonchalant smile, her eyes as mischievous as ever. “Oh, come on, Alexander. You know I can’t stay put for that long. Besides, I’m not like Seraphina, always causing trouble. I’m here to make amends.”
I raised an eyebrow, not entirely convinced. “Make amends? What for?”
She leaned in closer, lowering her voice. “I’ve been in Shadow City for a while now, and I’ve been observing the Rogues. I understand them better than anyone among the werewolves there. I think I can help you deal with them.”
I couldn’t deny the intrigue that Emilia’s words sparked in me. The Rogues were a thorn in my side, a group of renegade werewolves who had chosen a path of chaos and destruction. If Emilia truly had information that could aid me in dealing with them, it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.
However, my hesitation remained. “Emilia, your track record isn’t exactly spotless when it comes to getting involved in dangerous situations.”
She grinned, her eyes sparkling with confidence. “I’ve learned a few things along the way, Alexander. Trust me, I can handle this.”
Before I could respond, Emilia turned her attention to Daniel and Daisy, who had been listening to our conversation in silence. She gave them a meaningful look, and they nodded in understanding.
“Daniel, Daisy,” she said, her tone serious, “your Daddy and Mommy have been through a lot. We need to make sure we don’t cause any trouble for them, okay?”
“Yessss!”
Both of them immediately responded with a solemn promise not to cause any trouble. Daisy, in particular, clung to Sophia as if to emphasize her determination to behave.
I couldn’t help but soften at the sight of Daisy’s loyalty to Sophia. It was a stark contrast to her usual audacity.
Sophia also smiled and seemed to have some apology towards Emilia. She looked at me and said softly, “Just forgive Emilia. She didn’t know in advance that Tyler and Jake were werewolf hunters. The main fault lies with me.”
“Sister-in-law, thank you,” Emilia gratefully said to Sophia.
Emilia’s gaze returned to me, and she raised an eyebrow, as if to challenge my earlier doubts. “See, Alexander? They’ll be good. And I promise, I won’t let anything happen to them.”
I sighed, still feeling a mix of irritation and curiosity. “Alright, Emilia, you can stay. But you’ll need to fill me in on what you’ve learned about the Rogues.”
She grinned triumphantly, and I couldn’t deny that her presence had brought a spark of excitement and uncertainty into our lives once again. Emilia had a way of doing that, and I had a feeling that her involvement in this matter would be far from straightforward.
As we settled into the evening, I couldn’t help but wonder how her presence would affect our family dynamics. One thing was for sure-Emilia’s arrival had brought an unexpected twist to our lives.
Emilia’s POV
I watched as my niece Daisy, with her curly brown hair and innocent smile, helped me tidy up the living room. It was a rare moment of peace in the whirlwind of chaos that had become my life. Ever since I had brought the werewolf hunter brothers, Tyler and Jake, into the secretive world of the werewolf Shadow City, my life had taken a dramatic turn. And not for the better.
My grandfather, the formidable head of our werewolf clan, had reacted with thunderous anger when he learned of my reckless actions. In response, he froze all my cards, effectively cutting me off from the resources and privileges I once enjoyed. I had come to the human world in search of adventure and excitement, but now I found myself without a home or a plan.
Desperation had led me to Sophia, and my cousin, Alexander, who had reluctantly agreed to take me in. Sophia, with her empathetic heart, had felt compassion for my predicament, and that had been my saving grace.
As Sophia left Alexander’s study, I couldn’t resist my gossipy nature. I leaned in closer to him, my green eyes sparkling with curiosity. “So, cousin,” I began in a hushed tone, “how did you manage to rescue Sophia from Tyler and Jake? It must have been quite the showdown.”
Alexander, tall and brooding with his chiseled jawline, looked at me with an exasperated expression. “Emilia, you have a knack for getting yourself into trouble,” he muttered, clearly uninterested in indulging my curiosity.
I rolled my eyes playfully. “Come on, spill the beans! I need some excitement in my life now that I’m stuck here.”
