Emilia’s POV
I raised an eyebrow, my curiosity piqued. “Passing through, huh? This is the heart of Shadow City’s territory, you know.”
The one on the right nodded, a hint of a smile playing at the corner of his lips. “Yeah, we got a bit lost.”
I let out a chuckle, my eyes gleaming with a mixture of amusement and skepticism. “Lost? In these woods?”
Their responses were lighthearted, but there was an undercurrent of something else that I couldn’t quite pinpoint. Their presence here was odd, and my instincts were telling me that there was more to the story than they were letting on.
I crossed my arms, leaning against a tree as I studied them both. “So, what brings you handsome strangers to our territory?”
The one on the left exchanged a quick glance with his twin before responding. “We’re residents of Shadow City.”
I arched an eyebrow, my amusement growing. “Residents? And yet, I’ve never seen you before.”
Their expressions remained guarded, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that they were hiding something. The one on the right seemed to realize my skepticism, his lips curving into a playful smile. “We’re relatively new in town.”
I let out a playful chuckle, my eyes dancing with mischief. “Well, you’re relatively new in town.”
The exchange was light, but underneath it all, there was a tension that couldn’t be ignored. The mother wolf in me couldn’t help but speculate about their intentions. I had seen my fair share of wolves trying to make an impression on our male population. Could these two be here for similar reasons?
I leaned forward slightly, my gaze locking onto theirs. “You know, all the wolves residing in Shadow City tend to know each other. And yet, I haven’t come across such handsome men in our territory before.”
“Well, we’re just trying to make a good impression.”
The conversation flowed easily between us, a mixture of banter and curiosity. I couldn’t help but appreciate their confidence and the way they held their own in the face of my boldness.
Their explanation didn’t quite add up, though. My instincts told me that there was more to their story than they were letting on. After all, Shadow City was a place where everyone knew each other, and newcomers were rare. The female wolves of Shadow City were particularly gossipy when it came to handsome male newcomers. I had to admit that I hadn’t heard anything about them, which made me skeptical.
“Thank you for the compliments on our appearance. Perhaps we can get to know each other from now on, beauty,” one of twin said with a charming smile.
Their response was a mix of playful banter and light-hearted charm. It was clear that they were trying to make a good impression. The taller one had a confident grin, while the other seemed to be observing our interactions with a watchful eye.
As the conversation continued, I found myself caught between curiosity and skepticism. There was something intriguing about these two men, their presence sparking a mixture of excitement and caution within me.
I had no intention of immediately exposing these twin brothers. Instead, I opted to play along with their story, my senses attuned to their every word and movement. As my heart raced with a mixture of intrigue and excitement, I decided to test the waters further.
Leaning against a tree, my gaze fixed on the taller one, I raised an eyebrow and let a hint of challenge enter my voice. “So, handsome stranger, what’s your name?”
He flashed me a confident grin, a playful glint in his eyes. “Tyler.”
I nodded, mentally taking note of his name. Then, my gaze shifted to the other twin, the one with a more reserved demeanor. “And you?”
He met my gaze with a mix of caution and curiosity. “Jake.”
Tyler and Jake. I repeated their names in my mind, a sense of satisfaction curling in my chest. With their names established, I had a feeling that things were about to get even more interesting.
The idea struck me suddenly what if I brought them back to Shadow City? They had the scent of werewolves on them, which made me wonder if they were connected to the Rogues Alexander was investigating. It was a bold move, and I wasn’t sure what kind of response I would get. But curiosity and excitement fueled my decision.
With a smirk that I hoped was both enticing and challenging, I let my voice lower slightly. “You know, since you’re new in town and all, how about you come with me to Shadow City?”
Their expressions shifted, a mixture of surprise and wariness evident in their eyes. It was clear that my proposition had caught them off guard. Tyler’s confident demeanor wavered slightly, and Jake exchanged a quick glance with his brother.
Jake’s enthusiasm was contagious as he turned to his older brother. “Come on, Ty, It could be interesting.”
Tyler’s expression softened, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “Fine. We’ll come with you to Shadow City.”
I grinned, feeling a rush of excitement at the prospect of getting to know these intriguing brothers better. “Great, I promise you won’t regret it.”
