Seraphina’s POV
The air was thick with tension as Alexander’s voice sliced through the stillness, catching me off guard. “Seraphina, why are you here?”
I turned, my heart pounding as I faced him Alexander, the center of my hopes and frustrations. He stood there, a wall of strength and resolve, his presence a reminder of the choices that had brought us to this point.
His protective stance shielded her from my gaze, and though it stung, I couldn’t deny the delight that surged within me at the sight of him. It had been too long, and the ache of separation had been a constant companion. But now, as he stood there before me, I felt a mixture of emotions longing, regret, and a stubborn determination.
Alexander stared at me, his gaze cold and unwavering, and his words cut through the air like a blade. “What brings you to my chambers, Seraphina?”
The weight of his gaze, the distance in his tone, it all fueled the fire that had been burning within me. I squared my shoulders, my voice firm as I met his challenge. “I came to speak with Sophia.”
His stance shifted subtly, a protective gesture that spoke volumes. “She has nothing to do with your concerns. If you have something to say, say it to me.”
I felt a surge of frustration, the pang of resentment that had been building within me. “Very well, then,” I responded, my voice laced with an edge of bitterness. “Let’s talk.”
He gestured toward his study, and I followed him as he led the way. The room was dimly lit, the air heavy with a sense of gravity. I watched as he closed the door behind us, his expression stern and unyielding.
I didn’t waste any time, the words tumbling forth like a torrent that I had held back for far too long. “You know, it’s been a while since we’ve had a chance to talk like this.”
He leaned against his desk, his arms crossed as he regarded me with a mixture of curiosity and guardedness. “Yes, it has.”
I took a deep breath, my resolve solidifying with every passing second. “I want to address the past the choices we’ve made, the paths we’ve taken.”
He sighed, his expression softening slightly. “Seraphina, what’s done is done. There’s no point in dwelling on it now.”
I shook my head, my voice adamant. “No, there is a point. I need to know have you truly forgotten everything we shared? Have you forgotten the bond we once had?”
His gaze held mine, a mixture of conflict and resolution in his eyes. “Seraphina, I’ve moved on. I’ve found the one I love, the one who completes me.”
The words struck me like a blow, a sharp reminder of the distance that had grown between us. I clenched my fists, the frustration and pain bubbling within me. “You’ve moved on, but have you forgotten that I was there before her? I was the one who was supposed to bear your children.”
His eyes narrowed, a hint of anger in his voice. “That was a choice you made. You rejected me.”
I couldn’t suppress the bitterness that colored my response. “Yes, I rejected you. But now, seeing you with her, seeing what you have, it’s hard not to regret that choice.”
He straightened, his gaze unwavering. “Seraphina, I never liked you the way you wanted me to. I cared for you as a friend, but my heart was never yours.”
The words were like a slap in the face, a painful reminder of the illusions I had held onto. The weight of his rejection crashed down on me, and for a moment, I felt as if the world was closing in around me.
I couldn’t hold back my frustration any longer, the words tumbling out in a wave of emotion. “How can you choose her over me? She’s just a human, an outsider. I am a noble wolf, your equal. I am the one qualified to be your Luna, not her.”
His roar interrupted my tirade, the force of it shaking me to my core. His voice thundered through the room, a raw display of his own emotions. “Enough, Seraphina!”
My anger wavered, replaced by a mixture of fear and vulnerability. Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes, my voice trembling as I cried out in frustration. “Why can’t you see? I’ve known you for so long. I was there first. Why must I lose to her?”
He let out a heavy sigh, his anger giving way to a weary resignation. “Seraphina, this is not the way. I won’t tolerate your behavior.”
I felt the weight of his words, the reminder that my actions had consequences. The tears spilled over, and I cried out in frustration, my voice choked with emotion. “I can’t stand seeing you with her. I can’t accept losing to her.”
He stepped closer, his expression a mixture of empathy and firmness. “You need to let go, Seraphina. The past is the past. I won’t allow you to disrespect her or our bond.”
I wiped away my tears, my voice a mixture of heartbreak and stubbornness. “I won’t accept this. I won’t let her take everything from me.”
His gaze softened, a trace of sympathy in his eyes. “Seraphina, I’ll let this incident slide due to your father’s status. But I warn you, don’t provoke Sophia again.”
I nodded, the weight of his warning sinking in. As he turned away, I felt a mixture of defeat and frustration. Alexander, the object of my desires and dreams, stood before me but he was no longer mine to claim. As I left his study, the echoes of his words resonated in my mind, a constant reminder that sometimes, the choices we make shape our futures in ways we never could have imagined.
Though I deeply love Alexander, I have my dignity. My dignity won’t allow me to cling desperately to a man. But I will prove who, between Sophia and me, is more qualified to become Luna of the Shadow City.
