Alexander’s POV
As I step inside the apartment with the kids, I look around, noting the considerable changes that have been made in it. It was soaked to the brim last night, but it’s now back to normal, and only the repairman is left in the kitchen, fixing the tap.
Earlier, I had called for some of the servants from the main mansion to clean up the mess from last night. My goodness, the state they found everything in was alarming! But thanks to their hard work, the apartment now looks fresh and inviting. I’m grateful I didn’t keep any important documents here; that would have been a disaster!
With most of the furniture replaced with new ones, it almost feels like I am in someone else’s place. It’s noon now, and I can’t help but wonder where Sophia is. I haven’t seen her since we left her place. It’s like she’s locked herself up in her own world, separated from us.
I long to be around her, to understand what’s going on, but I have no excuse now like I did last night. It’s almost as if I was given some kind of push by some kind-hearted god last night and it at least gave me a minuscule chance to be with her through the night.
If only, I hadn’t slept up after the pain in my stomach subsided, I would have gotten more chance to talk to her. As I move around the apartment checking on everything that has been done, I make a mental note to call the family doctor to come check on me like I promised her.
After taking a look around the apartment, I check on the repairman in the kitchen, who assures me he’ll be done soon. With a nod, I turn my attention to the living room, where the kids are joyfully playing. Daisy, the energetic little angel, spots me and rushes over, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
“Are you going to work, Daddy?” she asks, her voice filled with hope.
I chuckle softly and reply, “No, sweetheart, I’m not. I’m all yours today.”
Her face lights up, and she grabs my hand, pulling me toward the cozy chair in the corner. “Sit, sit!” she insists, patting the seat. “You promised to play with me!”
How could I say no to that adorable face? “Alright, alright,” I surrender, sinking into the chair. “I’ll play with you, Daisy.”
She beams with delight and quickly joins me, peppering me with a flurry of questions like a curious little reporter. “What did you do today? Is Auntie Sophia coming over? Can we go to the park? What’s your favorite color, Daddy?”
I laugh at her enthusiasm and do my best to answer all her inquiries. It warms my heart to see her so happy, and I’m grateful for this moment of pure joy amid the chaos of recent events.
Meanwhile, Daniel, my thoughtful and creative son, chimes in. “How about we go for a picnic, Daddy?”
“That sounds like a fantastic idea, Daniel!” I reply, genuinely impressed by his suggestion. “Let’s pack some food and head to the park for a nice picnic together.”
Daisy claps her hands in excitement, thrilled by the prospect of a picnic adventure. “Yay! I want to bring Milk with us too!”
I smile at her. “Sure thing. Milk can come along too.”
We head to the kitchen, where I open the fridge to see what we can pack for our picnic. The kids eagerly assist me, grabbing fruits and biscuits, excitedly discussing the day’s plans. As we gather the food, Daisy suddenly comes up with an unexpected idea.
“Daddy, can we bring Auntie Sophia along?” she asks, her eyes hopeful yet hesitant.
I’m taken aback by her suggestion. “Auntie Sophia?” I repeat, not sure if I heard her right. “Why do you want to bring her, sweetheart? Isn’t this a family thing between the three of us?”
Daisy seems a bit flustered, as if she’s struggling to put her thoughts into words. But then, with a burst of determination, she blurts out, “Auntie Sophia is family too, isn’t she?”
Her words catch me by surprise, and for a moment, I’m speechless. The innocence and love in her eyes make my heart swell with emotion. These kids truly consider Auntie Sophia as part of their family, even before knowing she is their mommy. It’s heartwarming and bittersweet all at once.
A smile forms on my lips, and I gently ruffle Daisy’s hair. “You know what, you’re absolutely right. Auntie Sophia is family,” I say, feeling happy and proud of the bond they share.
Daisy’s face lights up, but she quickly becomes thoughtful again. “But will she come with us, Daddy?” she asks, her excitement tinged with uncertainty.
“I don’t know, sweetheart,” I reply honestly. “It’s up to Auntie Sophia if she wants to join us. Why don’t you go to her apartment and tell her about our plans? You can ask if she’d like to come along.”
Daisy’s eyes widen with enthusiasm as she nods eagerly. “Yes, I can do that, Daddy! I’ll go right away!”
“Alright, be polite, and if she wants to stay in her apartment, that’s okay too,” I remind her.
Daisy agrees excitedly and leaves the kitchen with a sense of purpose. As I watch her go, I can’t help but feel grateful for her and Daniel’s presence in my life.
With the kids occupied, I take a moment to reflect on my feelings for Sophia. I really hope she can accept us; I may be selfish, but I really want her to accept me. I didn’t worry about that when I brought up the surrogacy terms but now, I am regretting it. It is restricting me and I can only hope she will gradually open her heart to me.
As I wait for Daisy to return, I can’t help but hope that Sophia will agree to join us for the picnic. It would be a perfect opportunity for us to spend time together, maybe she will gradually accept us as who we are.
