Gabriella’s POV
She’s not a werewolf. What if she’s a witch? I don’t know her; I’ve never come across her before. Well, it’s very possible not to know everybody in this town, but why does my mate know her of all people? It feels so unfair, and I’m not going to forgive him for hurting me.
I stormed back inside angrily and sat in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection. I closed my eyes and opened them again, hoping to see my wolf eyes, but they were still normal.
The door opened, revealing my mate. I became even more irritated and pretended to focus on my reflection, ignoring his presence completely.
“Hey, honey,” he said, attempting to kiss my neck, but I stopped him.
“I’m sorry I came home late. I had something important to do,” he said, trying to engage me in a sweet conversation to get me to forgive him. No way, I wasn’t going to fall for his trap, no matter what.
“Are you trying to silence me? I said I’m sorry for coming home late. Believe me, it wasn’t intentional.”
“Just leave me alone,” I finally replied.
“My love, you know I hate it when we fight. I’m sorry, did I do something wrong? Please let me know, and I’ll make things right between us,” he said, holding my hands. I swatted his hands away.
“Just leave me alone and go be with your new lover,” I blurted out. There it was, I finally let out the thoughts that had been eating at me.
“I don’t understand what you mean by ‘new lover.’ Where is all of this coming from? You are my only true lover.”
I scoffed, “Oh, please spare me those lies. I knew it. I knew you would deny everything and act innocent in front of me, but it’s all good.” I grabbed a brush and started combing my hair, waiting to see what he would do next.
“I love you, Gabby. I want you to know that. I could never love another woman the way I love you. You are my world, and I would never do anything to hurt you.”
“Then tell me, what have you been up to? Why are you always so busy? Why don’t you come home early like before? What’s keeping you out there for so long if it’s not a woman? I know you’re cheating on me, so please stop pretending.”
I stood up and confronted him face to face, my words sharp. He grabbed me and pinned me against the wall, his hands holding mine as he attempted to kiss me. I turned my face away, not wanting his kiss.
“You really won’t let me kiss you?”
“I asked a question, and I want an answer. Are you going to give me one or not?”
“Like I said, I’ve been busy with something important, and I didn’t want to tell you because you…” I didn’t let him finish his sentence before I interrupted, “She’s waiting for you. You know, the usual spot where you always meet her. It must be more important than being here.”
“Come on, stop imagining things. I care for you alone, and I’m not seeing anyone. Why would you believe in such rumors?”
“I heard no rumors; I saw everything with my own eyes. In fact, she was here today asking about you, and she spoke so confidently. I guess those are the kind of ladies you go out with.” I dropped the bomb, and he tried to kiss me again, saying, “My heart belongs to you. I want you to believe my actions, not just my words.”
“Who is Jessica?”
“Oh, Jessica? She’s just a friend.”
“And you always visit her bar, right?”
“Yes, just to grab a drink, and that’s all,” he replied, and I shook my head, saying, “I’m not that gullible.”
“Oh, she’s not my love, and I have no interest in her at all. Likewise, she doesn’t have romantic feelings for me. She loves someone else, and she wanted me to talk to my friend about her good side.”
“What do you mean she loves your friend?” I questioned, finding it hard to believe what he just said.
“Yes, she has feelings for Martins. And she also saved me from an unexpected attack. We’re not as close as you might think,” he explained.
“You were jealous and not thinking clearly. Now you’ve seen for yourself that he doesn’t intend to hurt you,” Leah spoke to me, but I silenced her. “I know. Allow me to reflect on my mistakes,” I said to Leah. Nick tapped me and said, “Promise me you’ve forgiven me.” I didn’t know what else to do-I had made a mistake, but I was determined to make it seem like his fault.
“Well, I’m not sure if I should forgive you,” I replied. He kissed me, catching me off guard, and continued to kiss me repeatedly, making me burst out laughing with happiness.
The next moment, I heard Estella’s voice, and I sensed that something was wrong. “Did you hear our daughter?” I asked Nick.
“Yes, I heard it. Maybe she’s sleep talking. We can’t be sure,” he assured me, but I wasn’t feeling alright.
“But you need to calm down and stop worrying excessively. Once we’re sure she’s fine and still ‘asleep,’ I have something urgent to discuss with you,” he said, his words coming across as though he might not be around much longer-a strange way to phrase things.
“What is it you want to say?” I asked him, and he insisted on waiting until we returned from Estella’s room.
I had no issue with that, so we went together to check on Estella. We found our dear daughter awake, her eyes unusually dark, and her demeanor different. “What are you doing to my Estella?” I cried out, attempting a spell, but he either didn’t notice or didn’t respond correctly.
“What’s happening to our child?” he panicked, and I also informed him that this was what I saw in my previous attempt to talk to him. Suddenly, Estella used her dark powers to push us to the ground. I coughed up blood, feeling as if she was weakening me further.
