Gabriella’s POV
We descended the staircase together, and I pretended to know my way around, following the path she took until we reached the dining room. As she had mentioned, everyone was there, smiling at me.
“Honey, how was your night?” Nick said, standing up and walking over to me to give me a kiss on my forehead. “I’m fine,” I replied. My Nick was the best when it came to sweet, romantic gestures.
“Mom, Grandpa got me a Barbie doll,” Estella said to me, and I was taken aback. Did my father really buy something for my daughter? This was unbelievable; he had never shown any care for me. Also, I knew any child that came from me would never be valued by him unless it was Tracy’s child.
“I’m glad you like it. You remind me of your mother when she was your age, along with her sister Tracy.”
“Not again, Dad. You can’t keep bringing up me and my sister. It’s embarrassing, right Gabby?” Tracy asked with a smile.
“I guess it is.” Everyone laughed, and I quickly took my seat.
“Gabby, did Jane tell you she’s going to be a mother soon?” Steve asked me, and the entire table seemed so delighted by this wonderful news.
“Really? Wow, I’m so happy for you. Congratulations once again.” I genuinely offered my congratulations. My friend was going to be a mother, and I was glad that Steve was the father. They were a perfect match, and I hoped their love would continue to grow just like Nick and mine, as love is truly a beautiful thing.
“Thank you, best friend, and thanks to everyone,” Jane responded, and I smiled.
Nick held my hand and smiled at me. I couldn’t hide the excitement bubbling within me. My father then called us to attention, saying, “Alright, everyone, I know we have so much to talk about, but let’s not forget that we need to eat breakfast now. We don’t want our food to get cold.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Everyone responded with joy, and we all dug into breakfast, reveling in our happiness. I never knew my father cared so much about me; this felt too good to be true.
After breakfast, Nick said to me, “We need to get Estella ready for school.”
“School?” I asked, feeling slightly disoriented once again.
“Yes, school. The nanny will get her ready. How about I get you ready as well, my love?”
He pulled me close for a kiss, and I didn’t want him to stop.
“Guys, find a room,” Jane teased as she walked hand in hand with Steve.
“Sure, love, let’s head to our room,” Nick said to me, and for some reason, I felt embarrassed by the attention.
“Don’t forget about our run tonight,” Jane reminded us as Steve and Jane disappeared from sight.
“What run is she talking about?” I asked Nick immediately.
“It’s the wolf run in the woods,” he explained. However, I couldn’t wrap my head around it. I was just an omega, not someone who could participate in a run. What was Jane trying to do here? She was always kind to me, and I couldn’t believe she’d mock me.
“Oh, I remember now. Are you running tonight?”
“Yes, I always run with you by my side,” he replied, caressing my hair.
“What do you mean by ‘by my side’? I’m not understanding you at all,” I said, trying to comprehend the situation.
“Are you alright, love? You sound like someone else. Who else would I run with in the woods if not with you, my love?” He spoke with such conviction that I could tell he wasn’t lying. But how was this possible? I was a weak omega who had never shifted.
“Yes, I’m fine. I’m just an omega, so it’s impossible for me to transform into a werewolf,” I reminded him, refusing to be hurt by my lover’s words or those of my best friend.
“Stop belittling yourself. You were never just an omega. You have alpha blood running through your veins. You’re powerful and strong. My wife is not an omega,” he said confidently. His words held such assurance, and I realized there was only one way to find out the truth-I had to experience it for myself.
We dropped Estella off at school and found ourselves in the woods. Nick grabbed me for a kiss. “Let’s make some loving memories here,” he suggested, but I stopped him, telling him I needed to feel my wolf first.
Suddenly, I realized I could see a werewolf, and just like that, I transformed into a wolf. I felt a kiss on my head and slowly opened my eyes. I was back in my room, and Nick was kissing me again and again.
“Finally, you’re awake.”
“What do you mean?” I asked, realizing I was filled with energy.
“You’ve been asleep for five days,” he broke the news, and I couldn’t believe that everything I had experienced was false.
