“Wow,” he said.
I was gobsmacked. Wow? Was that all he had to say? A woman that deceived him into wanting to marry her through deception and he said wow? “Is that all you have to say?”
He shrugged, the content in the glass shaking due to his hand movement. “What would you rather have me say?”
“First of all, she committed a crime and I expect you… I expect you to be mad, very mad, and that you will fume or say you will punish her, not say wow,” I stated matter-of-factly.
“It’s not like any of that would change what she did… besides, I don’t care. I told you, I am going to sort this out and get us married sooner enough. I don’t care if she was pregnant or not. In fact, now I will feel free to bundle her back home without much trouble… it would have been harder if she were pregnant,” he murmured the last part, taking another swig.
“So-so you are saying we are getting married?” I took the harsh brown substance to hide my snickering facial expression, peeking at him through the rim of the glimmering glass. My heart was thudding loud from his proclamation. He is going to marry me? I was feeling another level of enthusiasm. I particularly liked the way he said it. Without any hiccup or stutter.
“Yeah… Don’t you want to marry me?” he asked in return, his eyes shadowing confusion.
“I do!” I cried out faster than normal, cleared my throat, straightened my already straight cloth in embarrassment, and looked up to meet his sharp green eyes. “I mean, it’s what we both want, so…” I splayed my hands, knowing my cheek would be tomatoes by now.
“You are so sweet, Danika. Look at you, blushing over something as small as that. Of course, we are getting married. And very soon. I have to announce it at the next meeting by Thursday. The sooner we are married, the best for us… the vampires must never catch me off guard ever again.” He thunked his glass with his finger, while darkly accessing me.
“Yeah…”
“When they know we are married, they will stay away and never try to kidnap you again. I won’t give them that chance of taking you away from me because if they do, they might as well marry you before they get to their keep, to make me forever miserable.”
My pulse quickened in fear. I hated the vampires. Not only because they were after me, but also because of the cruel stories of what I have heard them do to people. If I get married to their King, the first thing I know he would do to me to seal me to him, and won’t be to claim me. And once he does, I will literally breathe the same air as he does. They are that possessive.
I didn’t know I had started trembling until I felt Alonso’s arm come round me to draw me near to him. I sank into his chest and dropped the glass on the table to wrap my arm around him. “I’m so scared. I don’t want them to take me away from you, I want us married as fast as possible, yet, I fear. I fear greatly if your family would ever like me. Your mother hates me so much and your brother, the friend I thought I had, now resents me too. And even though he doesn’t, his friendship has dark motives for me.”
“Relax,” he whispered, rubbing my back soothingly. “I am here for you. We are both here for each other… Paisley is leaving…” I breathed out such a relief, then the other thing-the essential thing I missed telling him came back to me.
Slowly I extracted myself from him despite grudgingly. “I have something else to share.”
“Okay…”
“Sh-she has a lover.”
“Lover?” he questioned, cocking his right brow. “How?”
I went ahead to tell him everything that occurred today in her room as well as what Mrs. Dolly told us afterward.
“That explains a lot…” he said in a distant voice.
“Explain what?” I tilted my head to the side.
His forehead creased. “Recently unlike before, she stopped disturbing me for sex and pestering me as before. I was relieved and thought perhaps it’s because she is eventually coming up with terms that this thing ain’t going to work, so it was this?”
“Yeah. We were shocked too. Somehow I was glad she was pregnant so that we can tell your mother and that way make it easier for us to gain back her trust. But now… I’m not so sure. Yes, she lied, but your mother will agree with her rather than accept me. Plus, we do not even know the mystery man,” I sounded very bitter.
“Don’t worry, Munchkin. I will get a spy. In fact, I have good news.”
“Good news?” I nudged my hair behind my right ear and was at his face in a flash. “What is it?” He was smirking ruggedly. Very alluring. My inside throbbed Ft friskily.
“Guess what?”
“C’mon, babe… you know my emotion is on a high level right now to guess anything right…” I bumped his ribs, batting my eyes at him with pouty lips.
“Kiss me and you earn it.”
“Really, Ally. We are in hot soup and you care about kisses?”
“C’mon, Munchkin.” He grabbed my side and pulled me to him until his breath was fanning my face. My center went wet immediately, his touch disabling any constraint and turning me putty in his arms. At that instant, I wasn’t thinking of secret lovers and brothers’ threats. All I thought was the sensation running through my nerve ending, my endorphin level rising. I needed him.
“Kiss me,” he whispered, his emerald wolf eyes shining through like in the forest. I knew it wasn’t him but his woof speaking. I didn’t waste time allowing Muse take over, as she lurched forward and clashes our lips to his, the euphoric of the erotic moment, blinding out worries.
When we later pulled apart, I was panting like I just ran the marathon while he grinned from ear to ear, proud of himself for rendering me so breathless.
“Lancelot is coming back tomorrow.”
