Chapter 84

*Danika*
On getting home, I thanked Luther and climbed out of the car, all my body itching from today’s perspiration that clung to my body. I can’t wait to run into the bathroom and have a hot shower.
Entering my room, Mary wasn’t there which means she had gone back to Lance’s quarters. I flung my bag on the bed and went to shower, taking my time to raise the temperature of the water to be very heated before soaking myself in the tub to allow it to permeate my skin. The fragrance of the lavender and orchid I added, sailed into the air, engulfing the entire space, exactly how I wanted it.
Closing my eyes, I imagined how tonight’s plan was going to work out. It brought more delight to my countenance that when I snapped my eyes open and looked up at the white ceiling, all I saw was Paisley panicking, while she begged for my mercy!
“Yes!” I clapped and rapidly washed off. This is going to be very good. Finishing off, I toweled myself and used my headband to hold my wet hair to the top of my head, some of it spilling down my body and causing a tickling effect. I blushed when a certain thought occurred to me. It made me wonder where Alonso would be now and what he would be doing…
No! I have to stop thinking about him. I’m not supposed to see him tonight so he doesn’t ruin the plan I and Alfred cooked up. He has to know the kind of person Paisley is so that she would come out of that mask and stop pretending. She is so stupid if she thinks she would keep scaring me like this and in the other way round, putting the King in trouble. I have to teach her a lesson!
Entering my room, I applied lavender lotion and oil on my hair and legs. I wore my evening gown which as usual, dear Nadia placed neatly on the bed, and sat down on the chair to link with Alfred.
I tried the first time, but he wasn’t responding. It looks like he was blocking me off. I tried again, and he didn’t respond. What’s wrong with him? I told him we have to do this thing today!
Trying not to panic, I picked up my phone and dialed his number. It was turned off! Is something wrong? I looked about my room in a frenzy in search of nothing in particular, then I stood and made my way down. We still have about an hour before dinner. Maybe I can find him.
I rushed downstairs, almost colliding with Paisley who came in through the front door into the lobby.
Her eyes sparkled with glee when they met with mine. For one who is a stalker, she sure has an honest smile. How does she do it? Or who does she pay to do it?
First, was the unseen presence at the restaurant, then the weird gift? And yet she smiles so-
“Danika! Why are you gaping at me like that?!” She clicked her fingers on my face.
I blinked and looked down to regain my stance, hence looking back at her. “I’m sorry, I-I was thinking of something,” as I waved my hands in explanation.
“It’s okay. I was on my way to your room.” She came forth to take my hand in hers. At that moment there was nothing I craved more than to snatch it away but I withheld myself from doing that. She tugged me outside the front door, where to my dismay the King was standing in front of his black Chevrolet, his face in a deep frown as he appraised both of us.
“Why were you looking for me?” I asked Paisley, taking back my hand from her, pleased when she didn’t show any sign of protest.
She twirled on her feet and pointed from the King to me and back. “The King wanted to go for a run in the forest and I suggested we bring you with us since you seem to always be inside when you come back from work!”
I looked from the King back at her, my mouth forming an ‘O’, and reached to scratch my head with a forced smile. Gad, when did I move from looking for Alfred to going to the forest for a run? And our plan can’t work if she’s running off to the forest with the King!
I pointed behind me. “I was going to look for Alfred. We have training-”
“Alfred?” she quizzed, her smile fallen to be replaced by a frown. “He left in the morning and nobody has been able to reach him.” She looked at the King who was looking towards Lance’s quarters now. “Alonso tried to link him because one of the warriors incurred a serious injury and had to be rushed to the hospital. Alonso wanted to ask him how he was handling the warrior’s misfortune but-” She bobbed her shoulders. “He has been unreachable.”
I didn’t think much about what she said because though I was disappointed with Alfred for bailing on our plan- or being a bit late on the time of the plan, that doesn’t mean he won’t come back. He might be hiding somewhere training as usual or probably visiting a friend.
“So shall we? Or are we going to stand here all day?” Alonso ground out, entering the car, and slamming the door.
“Wait! You’re driving?” I asked with a cocked brow in a panic.
“Yeah! My baby is driving! Any problem?” Paisley dragged me towards the car, the small flair of her mini red gown flying about.
I shook my head, eyeing Alonso when she looked away. “By the way, I thought it’s the back of the house we are going to, why use a car?”
“We are going to another forest. The forest the King usually transforms in,” Paisley explained as she slams the car’s front door notoriously just like Alonso. I exhaled, looking back at the house and regretting coming down. I should have simply stayed back, and even if she comes up I will make an excuse to avoid this situation!
With my teeth gnashing against each other, I finally joined them and Alonso powered the engine and just as I had feared, zoomed off at a mighty speed. I clung to the seat, invoking Hades at him if he tries to play nasty on that steering wheel.
I knew he was reading my mind because Gad help me, he drove like a mad man. I was an ounce away from screeching my head out on him to slow down and not kill me. And the worst of it all was Paisley, who kept cheering him on and rattling on and on about shit of minute consequences. I knew I was going to see hell in this ride but wasn’t expecting it to be this grave.
“Whoooo!” She threw her hands in the air, clapping them before twisting around to beam at me. I rolled my eyes within and made a fake smiling face. They surely made a good fit.
When we got to the forest and the car stopped, I dashed out to the side of the forest and puked my bowels out. My eyes were swerving from the never-ending bump of the car and unprecedented mad reverses. Was he ever worried that one of his subjects could have seen him driving that way?!
Having read my mind he said, “They are used to it.” Although I knew he was replying to my thought, I ignored him for the presence of Paisley.
“Hey, are you okay?!” she asked.
“Yeah! I’m great!” I snarled, still bending down. I spat and eventually picked myself. The King was standing there with a bottle of water which he handed me that I poured on my face and drank from. I didn’t even ask to be here!
“I’m so sorry, Danika! I shouldn’t have encouraged him to drive like that, what was I thinking!” She came to pat my shoulder and I eyed her once before smiling. She was so sweet yet so devious!
“I will see you two later,” Alonso muttered and matched into the thick forest, not even bothering to soothe me despite being the cause of my discomfort. I eyed his broad back, desiring to do some hurtful things to him.
“Don’t be angry with him, Danika. He can be an arsehole sometimes when he wants to.” Paisley drove me back from my blank out, and I cringed, averting my gaze from Alonso.
“Let’s go, I have to run too!” She began ambling in the same direction the King went.
“You want to transform with me?” she asked and I quickly shook my head. I am not prepared for that. I am still not comfortable with another person seeing my wolf except Alfred.
“Why?! Don’t you-”
“I’m good, Paisley. I’m very tired by the way,” I deadpanned and went to sit on a rock, waving her to the back of the giant forest tree to change. However, she started undressing in front of me.
“You know I like you very much, Danika… As I said some time ago, I don’t know why you don’t like me in return.” She dropped her gown on me, my eyes glued to her body that was a glistening creamy milk color and very smooth. “Then I noticed how the King looks at you all the time… like he has never looked at me throughout the time I’ve been with him…” My eyes widened at her in fear at her confirmatory statement.
Is she finally going to open up and tell me she’s the one that has been pulling those pranks on me in order to scare me off the King?
“Then I became jealous, Danika. I became very, very jealous more than I have ever been! You know why?” She removed her bra, sampling to me her ample curvy breast, her pebbled nipples begging for touch.
