*Danika*
“Who was in your room?” He shut off the desk, his scowl dissolving into inquisitive gawks.
I hurried in, stopping in front of him. “I don’t know…” I went on to tell him everything, and before I could finish, he was already leaving the room, then he lingered and faced me.
“Stay here, don’t go anywhere.”
“But it’s my room, I-”
“Danika?! Not now. Stay here, I will be back.” With that, the door banged after him, leaving me alone in the room with my disheveled thoughts.
I loathe that I was left behind. It is my room. I should be with him in case he has any questions? Humph! Who could have gone to my room and what was the person looking for?
I was still pacing when the door opened not long after, and he came in. He had a distant look as if one of deep contemplation. I rushed to him. “Do you think you might know the person that did it?”
He looked ahead, not meeting my eyes. “I didn’t perceive anything. The person that did it must have concealed their aura and scent, so I couldn’t get anything.”
“But what would the person want with me? Wait a minute, what if maybe it’s all a mistake? Maybe I am overreacting…” I looked away from him in somber reflection. Maybe it’s nothing. Somehow the window might have opened or…
No, it’s not possible.
“You have to move to another room for now until this is sorted. I am certain someone came in there, though I can’t tell who, and what they wanted. For your security, you need to be in another room.”
“But I can’t stay in another room. What if they followed me to the new room? If the person is after me that means wherever I sleep they are likely to follow me there…”
From the way his eyes narrowed, I could tell he wasn’t happy I was countering him. As the King, he was thinking of a way to protect me and me questioning his order might upset him, if not make him mad at me.
“You have to do as I say right now, Danika. By tomorrow I will do something about this. You know our situation is dire and I can’t go waking the entire household to ask if by chance anyone entered your room. So for now as I said, you will stay in another room. Let’s go.” He made his way to the door and I had to follow, still frightened to the core. The only time I had ever been this frightened was back in my pack when I committed an offense before going to bed. I would always be afraid that my father or sister would come while I slept and deal with me.
I noticed as we climbed the stairs, we went toward the hall his room was situated. We soon reached the room after him and he pushed it in, letting me in. I entered, looking about the room before finally regarding him. “Are you leaving?” I had to ask. I was so scared.
“Yes, the others can’t see me here, remember?”
“But I can’t stay here alone after what happened,” I said, inching close, but stopped to get a hold of myself. I am not going to show any weakness, yet, right now I will be a fool to want to play bravery in a time like this. “Please stay. You can always leave early in the morning like you do, please.”
His eyes twitched in their socket, possibly deliberating his chances. “Danika…”
I closed the distance and closed my hands around him, flattening on his chest. “I hate going to bed scared. It reminds me of my ugly past. Please, just for tonight. What if the person comes back to kill me?”
He stiffened. “No one is going to kill you, Danika. Don’t say such things…” His chest vibrates with the deep resonation of his timbre voice.
“Then stay.”
He exhaled, his rough hand coming about my shoulder and pulling me away. I feared he was going to decline and leave, instead, he led me to the bed, flipped off the covers, and pushed me in. I slipped in and fell on my back to look up at him, beseeching him with my eyes not to bail on me. He soon pushed off the covers and joined me, placing his large arm as a pillow over his head. He looked so adorable. But that wasn’t the problem. The problem was, if it wasn’t any member of this house that sneaked into my room, that means someone out there is after my life. But who?
“Try to sleep,” his voice drifted to me. I slowly turned to my side to face him, drawn in by those captivating blue eyes. With him laying like this close to me, I stopped thinking of my troubles. All I crave was him, staying like this with me.
Our eyes pinned into each other, energy to energy, chemistry to chemistry, air against air. I felt all of it, our aura merging to clash together. I swerved my eye from the shiny wave of his sandy, tousled hair, down his shimmering blue eyes intensified by the bright light in the room, then to his knee straight nose, and finally, his supple lips that drove me crazy.
Instinctively, I reached out my hand and swiped through it, opening it in the process as I wiped through the lower part. He grunted but didn’t stop me. I went from his lips to his temple, tracing my dainty index finger through it till I got to his scanty mustache where I pinched and pulled until he yelped and swapped my hand. I giggled and wanted to do it again, but he held my hand and brought it down to his chest. It was beating erratically. I flipped my eyes to his and noticed it had darkened to a greener shade. It reminds me of Alfred’s wolf eye.
“What is the color of your wolf?” I asked.
He hesitated before responding, “Black. Why ask?”
“So you and Alfred have similar colored wolves?”
His countenance fell, letting go of my hand abruptly to flip to his back. Oh, my wide mouth. “What else do you know about him?”
“We go for a run together, that’s how I knew,” I told him in a low voice, not seeing any need for jealousy.
“Must we talk about him?”
“No!” I rose to my elbow, my palm holding my head. “I just referred to him. We weren’t talking about him.”
He looked to the side at me. “You have a big mouth. Very annoying most times.”
I chuckled. “I know.” I tossed myself at him, and he caught me, growling in the process. I was laying on top of him, breathing in his sweet tantalizing scent that was drawing me in. Then an idea struck me. “Are you going to marry her?”
His body tensed up. “Why do you care?”
“You are my mate, I should care if you want to marry another woman…”
There was silence for so long that I almost gave up waiting for a response. “There are many things you don’t understand, Danika. When it comes to pack business, you put your head first over love or lust.”
“So you are marrying her for something, not because you love her?”
“Something like that…”
“Then where does that leave me?”
Another stretch of silence. Infuriating one. Then he spoke softly that I nearly missed it. “We will see what we can arrange.”
I snorted and pushed away from him. He wanted to marry another woman and then he is planning to arrange something with me? Interesting.
“Danika…”
“Maybe you should go to her. Every time we spend together talking, it often leads to quarrels. Maybe we are not meant to be anyways,” I said, facing backward, not desiring to see his face anymore. The nerve of him.
I felt his hand on me before his face nuzzled into my neck. “You are becoming bolder every day,” he said hoarsely, biting down on my skin till it hurts. I gasped and wanted to push him away but he grabbed my hand and dropped it. I obeyed, my body reacting to our proximity, every other action just a vain protest.
“You will soon learn a lot of things, Danika. Then you will eventually understand why I have to do what I do.”
“When you marry her, I will surely leave.” This was me giving him a heads up.
He scoffed. “You ain’t going anywhere.”
“Let’s watch and see.”
“Threatening your King now?”
“Threatening my mate.”
He chuckled. Like he truly chuckled. The stone face of the Bahamas chuckled. I swerved rapidly to my back to look at him. I wanted to see his face while he chortled. It’s a rare picture of him. Unlike before, he didn’t scowl back, he let me see. He was just as I had imagined it- enchanting.
“Why don’t you smile often if you are this sweet-looking?”
He frowned instantly. “I think it’s time you slept, Munchkin.” He grabbed and tossed me to my side, holding me down. I smiled, allowing myself to be lured away into dreamland, dreaming of masculine men with sweet smiles and rippling muscles.
