DANIKA**
“Are you this clumsy or you’re simply stupid?” asked the Alpha King as he pushed me away from him that evening at dinner.
….
After his declaration and my sister and father were hurled away to the execution ground, it didn’t take long before the Alpha King disappeared and his Beta asked me to follow him.
This happened after the hug, no more words, just the action. This had me having second thoughts. What if he has changed his mind? What if he believes them and wants to punish or kill me even?
The Beta had brought me to an impressive hotel on the outskirts of the town and accompanied me to my room where he asked me to shower and rest, and not long after, a waiter brought food for me to eat, which I happily ravished without a second thought.
Now, here I was sitting in this room, my heart thudding as I hope that the Alpha King will not change his mind about me. Or worse, demand I pay for my crime.
Anyways, I have practiced things to say to him if that should happen. I wasn’t good for the position of Luna and I know it. Yet, I’m willing to work hard for him. He has been more than kind to me today. I don’t want him to feel bad that he has to be burdened with someone like me.
Hell, I have nothing to offer to him. Unless maybe he just wanted companionship and a home keeper. The former I can learn, and the latter I’m already familiar with.
The door handle rattled, signaling the presence of someone. I bolted up from the nice fluffy bed I’ve been reclined on since entering into the room.
I reached the door in two strides and stopped to take in a steady breath. I worked to straighten my worn-out dress, wiping my hands through my face that looked a little comely after the amazing bath I had.
The keys jiggered, the brown oak door creaking aloud as I opened it. My expectation though was met short, as standing before me wasn’t the Alpha, but his Beta. He smiled when he saw the disappointment on my face and at once smoothened his face as he opened his mouth.
“Alpha King Alonso said you would meet him in the lobby for dinner afterwards,” he told me then stretched forth his taut tanned hands towards me bearing a brown package, “and here is the dress you would be wearing when you get down. Please try to look presentable.” He waved his hands about me.
I gave him a small smile as I secured the package under my armpit while waiting for him to make his exit. “Thanks,” I felt the need to add, before he finally nodded stiffly and matched off authoritatively.
“Whoa! That was overwhelming. He wants me to meet up for dinner? Why?” I quizzed myself, this minute wishing I had my wolf, to at least make this small talk with.
Shaking my head, I quickly ran back into the room, making sure everywhere was safely locked behind me, then locating the bed where I tore at the package with so much anxiety. I have never gotten a gift before. This would be the first.
Red flashed before my vision before the cloth came tumbling out of the bound to the bed. I picked it up and sampled it, excitement bubbling inside of me.
“Yes! This is beautiful!” I careened, instantly starting to disrobe, to try it on.
In a flash, my ragged dress was pooled on my feet, and the new one was about to make its debut on my body. I struggled so much but finally, it curved to my will, the zip coming into place. I went to the hotel mirror to check out myself and sighed in contentment. “This is truly beautiful. This is what it means to be true mates. Maybe the goddess didn’t forget me after all,” I said to myself as I danced in front of the mirror in uttermost glee.
I wasn’t one for fashion, but I could very well tell that this was one of those killer gowns one wear to special occasions. Only the wealthy could afford it.
I was still accessing my newfound awe, when my eyes caught a glimpse of the remaining package still sitting on the bed.
I hurried to it and toppled everything unto the bed. Black watery Chesterfield stilettos fell to the bed, followed by a piece of gold jewelry.
I lost control over my water pot and let all the tears down at once. This is too much for me to bear. Why is he being this kind to me? Does he consider me a charity already? Everything now looks like the goddess had set me up with Liam, only for her to showcase my true man in the thorns of my trials.
To say some hours ago I was close to my deathbed. Hilarious.
I donned the heels and merely made it to the mirror without knocking out all my teeth. How I was going to go down the stairs with the heels at this point, was totally at the mercy of the goddess.
It was an entirely great experience of knotting and straightening everything here and there. Alas, everything was set as I thought and I gave myself one last scrutiny at the mirror, once more wishing I had an extra eye.
I have never played dress up before today… variably and invariably, I might be looking like an idiot right now and would never know it.
I just pray he wouldn’t be ashamed of me and ask me out even before my butt hit the chair.
Picking the mini purse that was in the package, I wobbled to the door and held on to it as I descended down the stairs. Today might turn out dreadful, if I wasn’t careful.
Once I was out of the room I wavered a few knots at the stairs to peruse my environment, just to make sure that no one would see me make a fool of myself on my heels.
Thanks to the moon, there was no one.
I rapidly removed the heels and rammed down the step, making sure my eyes were still frantically checking out my surrounding incase of unnecessary surprises. I know the Alpha King would take another hour or two to make it to the hotel’s restaurants, which was why I left early. I wouldn’t want him to think I sulked at everything, including time keeping.
And now it has become handy in my little stunt.
Reaching the base of the stairs, I exhaled a sigh of gratitude, and once more checked out everywhere before I made a mad dash for the reception. The man we had seen there when we came in looked up from his laptop with a smart smile on his face and asked, “How may I help you Ms.?”
“Please, I’m looking for the direction to the restaurants.” I returned an equally charming smile in unease, hoping no one catches me wearing such an expensive gown on ten toes.
“Oh, I’m so sorry Ma’am, I thought you would be staying together with the Alpha and so didn’t bother to send you a map. Anyways, the restaurant is down that way by the pool.” He pointed to the left corner of the vast white furnished space. “Enjoy your dinner,” he finished.
I acquiesced with a nod, and stooped to wear my heels since it was inevitable that he would see me once I reached the corner of the hall he pointed to, which was facing him.
The walk was one full of turbulence, with me displacing my step, falling off the heels twice, and losing my way due to being nervous and distracted.
Eventually, unable to continue on my foolery, I had swung off the stilettos after landing and nearly meeting the cold floor with my face. I uprooted the dratted items and held them while walking back the halls towards the pools. And this time, I saw it snuggled between two halls that I have passed before, without noticing.
Regardless, that wasn’t my problem. The in-thing is that I wasn’t expecting my dear Alpha King to be seated waiting for me in the restaurant nor that he would be at the first table while entering the place.
I froze as he caught me in my half undressed state, my white feet on the plain floor while the heels were nuzzled in my hands vainly.
For the second or is it the third time? I was embarrassed to my toes. I abruptly brought down the heels as he clenched his jaws, his eyes taking me in my appearance with venom etched in them.
I bent down and proceeded wearing it back. After that, I schooled my ankle into complying with me and not humiliating me for Gad knows how much today.
However, it seems my luck was wearing thin overtime. When I was almost at the table, the clumsy side of me ended up succeeding over my astounding resolution, and there and then I went crashing, but not into the cold ground, rather, straight to the table, the Alpha King was sitting on.
Two things happened. One was the bottle of champagne on the table toppling over to wash over his expensive suit, and the next and most awkward, was him dashing up and catching me halfway before I met the unfavorable ground.
The collision was an electrifying experience and one I would want to relive if only it would leave us in the same position over again.
“Are you this clumsy or you’re simply stupid?”
