Mia
I wondered what that drama was for. I knew that there had to be an underlying tension in the room that I didn’t know of. I was going to ask Quinn of it afterwards. All that anger certainly couldn’t be because the alpha had mated with his sister and they weren’t happy with his choice of mate.
The meeting finally started and I was able to calm down a bit. Watching and listening to them bicker did more harm to my nerves than good.
I felt like I was on a job interview and had found out that the interviewer was my mum’s ex-boyfriend. I felt out of place listening to them bicker and was scared that would affect my chances.
It wasn’t like they could do anything about it. They couldn’t decide to not make me the Luna. Quinn was the alpha and I was mated to him already. They couldn’t give him another mate because they didn’t like me as a mate bond was irrevocable.
I didn’t think this interview was necessary for every female intending to be the Luna. I didn’t think they would do this if I was born as a werewolf.
They were only doing this because I was a turned wolf and they were uncomfortable with me because they couldn’t trace my origin in the pack.
This interview wasn’t to accept me as the Luna of the pack – that was a given as the mate of the alpha – it was to determine if I could win their respect as the Luna. I didn’t think I wanted anything pass that at this moment. I wanted to win their respect, that of all of them including the man who seemed determined to hate me for reasons I didn’t know.
To win their respect, I was determined to do anything that they wanted or asked of me.
Quinn
The meeting had finally started. I couldn’t have been more proud of her. She answered all the questions that she was asked with intelligence as if she had been given a private tutorial. She must have thought of this day and prepared herself for it even though I didn’t think of it myself.
Her attention to details was outstanding and impressive. Even questions that I didn’t think that she was going to know, she did absolutely well there.
What was that? I frowned as Binoo started throwing questions at her, reminding me of my former captain while we were in training.
He could ask questions and throw multiple of them at someone that one would prefer to be shot at and popped full with bullets and die than stand before him answering questions.
Who is the Luna of the pack?
What is the importance of a Luna to the pack?
What are the functions of a Luna?
Who founded this pack?
Who was the first Luna of the pack?
What was the first battle that the pack fought? What was name of the alpha who led it?
What was the first battle that the pack won? What was name of the alpha who led it?
What was the first battle that the pack lost? What was name of the alpha who led it?
Was there a Luna ever in the pack who did something outstanding that the pack couldn’t forget and would remember forever?
Ah! I gasped with wide eyes as the questions gushed out one after the other. How was she supposed to know that when she wasn’t born as a wolf? That was history of the pack. Even me who was born as a wolf into a privileged family didn’t know of the answers to all those questions until I was ten. The wolf pups wouldn’t have learnt of the history of the pack yet.
I didn’t think that there was ever a way for Mia to know of the answers and knew that was what the elders thought as well. They wanted her to fail. They wanted to show me that I was wrong in mating her and expecting that she would be fit as the Luna of the pack.
I gasped again, this time in wonder as Mia got all the answers right. I looked at her in surprise, wondering how she had known of the answers. The elders were surprised as well and looked at her in amazement. Why would she be nervous about standing before the elders when she was this cool and intelligent?
Binoo narrowed his eyes at her. “Did someone teach you all these?” He looked at dad. “Did you tell her the answers?”
Dad shook his head and shrugged. “I’m as surprised as you are. I never told her anything like that. Moreover, how was I to know what you would ask her? It wasn’t like you gave me a sheet.”
Kehlan nodded. “He is right. He couldn’t have told her anything. There was no time for it. He was here with us all through before we sent for her and didn’t leave till she walked in. He couldn’t have slipped her a note. I don’t think we have to ask the boys if they were the ones who told her the answers, they looked confused as we did about how she knew the answers.”
Albus sighed and turned to Mia. “Explain yourself. How did you know of the answers?”
Mia smiled as she began and I could see her getting more confident by the minute. That was my girl.
“I read of everything I could find on werewolves and the pack when I learnt of their existence and the fact that Quinn was going to be the alpha one day.”
Binoo smiled. “A prepared lady. I like that. I have no more objections.”
“Me too.” Kehlan added.
I smiled, excited that she had won their respect.
Albus nodded. “She would move to the second stage of this screening to test that she is every bit a wolf as one who was born like that. After that, I think we can have the ritual ceremony for her. Does anyone have any more objections?”
Binoo and Kehlan shook their head. Fredo was the only one who spoke. “She would have to fight Saidah for me to acknowledge her as the Luna.”
Kehlan gasped. “Saidah is a trained wolf and not any wolf can fight with her. She is the strongest female wolf in the pack for a reason.”
Fredo smirked. “And I believe we were all here when the alpha said the mate he had chosen was stronger than she looked. Let’s test how true that is.”
I grimaced as I looked at Quinn. He was a bastard, a core one. I wouldn’t have said those words if I knew that he was going to use it against Mia.
He couldn’t be serious. Have Mia fight with Saidah? I bet he wanted to kill her.
