Finally, a decision was made and it was agreed that the competition between me and Tyrex would start soon. As based on tradition, it was meant to happen at the house of the former alpha.
It was while we were seated out there that Albus put a call through to Tyrex’s father to come to our house with his son to prepare for the pre-initiation ceremony.
We could hear everything that Albus said and all what Tyrex’s dad also on phone. It was what he already asked me immediately he was done with breaking dad’s arms. The elders wanted to know how closer we were to being the next leader of the pack.
“How soon can you get here, Tyrien?” Albus asked Tyrex’s dad.
“We will be there in the next two hours.”
“Good. We will all be expecting you. Albert had already told his staff to be expecting you and prepare rooms for you.”
“We are moving soon. We have actually been expecting your call as Tyrex has been telling me of how his body has been changing recently.”
Albus sighed and exchanged a look with Kehlan before turning back to the conversation. “That is part of what we would like to discuss with you and Tyrex. Is he there?”
“Yes.”
“Give him the phone.”
Tyrien called his son over and gave him the phone. Albus spoke again when he heard Tyrex’s voice over the phone. “Have you started feeling any weird signs, son?”
“Yes. I suddenly get stronger and it’s been hard trying to control my emotions as well.”
I nodded and sighed. The duel was about to happen. That was basically what I was feeling as well.
“You are probably about to become the next alpha, boy. Those are signs that the old alpha is getting old and it’s time for either of you to step up into the office of being the leader of the pack. Are you ready?”
“I’ve always been ready.” He replied, his voice gruff.
I wasn’t scared. I’d always known Tyrex to be a tough guy. I want afraid of him. I was only worried as I had always been that it was going to be a bloody and fierce war.
I sighed. Did it always have to be that way? Albus ended the call and asked dad for where they were going to stay.
Dad went in to give instructions to the staff to prepare rooms for the elders and those that were on their way as well. It wasn’t easy telling Vanessa of the sudden arrival of the guests and why they had to stay over but he was finally able to convince her. I wondered how he was going to tell her of our customs and convince her that it was normal for her to see two wolves fighting and throwing themselves up in the air and seeing her husband, his friends and her stepsons (except one) watching and doing nothing to the wolves or being afraid of them.
I sighed. This week was a hassle already. Two hours later, we were all outside waiting for the arrival of Tyrien and Tyrex. They came and dad personally escorted them to their quarters as was the custom. The duelling ceremony was done in the house of the current alpha and he had to personally escort those who had to duel for his position because he didn’t know which was going to be the next alpha and he had to start showing his respects to them as from when the ceremony was scheduled to hold.
Even now, dad wasn’t meant to treat me anyhow even though I was his son. He was meant to give me the respect deserving of an alpha of the pack. That was going to be weird. That was so going to be. Of all that was expected for this duelling ceremony and the initiation ceremony into being an alpha, the only thing that I didn’t like was having my dad treat me as if I wasn’t his son. That was going to make me uncomfortable. How could I do that?
This was not what I wanted for myself. I was going to change this practice when I become alpha. I had a lot to protect with that position. I had a lot to change. Mia dreamed of the day that I was going to be an alpha. I knew that there was no way that she would fully be accepted into the pack unless I gave her the power of a Luna.
The silver moon pack had a way of detesting those who weren’t born naturally as wolves and segregating them. I didn’t want that for Mia. I wanted her to be fully accepted into the pack. I also wanted to scrap out the practice of an alpha bowing to those who were going to be the next alpha. I didn’t want my son feelings weird the way I was. It was weird enough that I had to endure the man I had respected as a father for years bowing to me, I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of having to bow to my son when the time for him to be alpha came.
I also knew that it wasn’t going to be easy for us to be tolerated in the pack as the only three wolves with the same mate. Not many people in the pack knew of the prophecy and many more would disdain us for what we have done.
Many would criticize us for having Mia as our mate when they were many unmated female wolves in the pack for us to mate with one by one. They would criticize Mia for being with the three of us. They would think of her as a slut and judge her. The only way I could avoid that was to win this duel, be the new alpha of the pack and gain power.
I needed power to protect Mia and my brother. I needed power for Mia to protect herself. Tyrex looked at me and smiled, giving me the usual customary polite smile contestants we were to give each other before the fight.
I smiled back, knowing that there was no way I was ever going to let him win.
