Scorpio
I couldn’t believe my ears. That was impossible. I was livid with rage. I had thought to avoid the war and give him a second chance but he had messed it up. He had spat on my face and insulted my intelligence. I was angry but the lady before me was angrier than I was. She was mad and spitting with fury as a snake would spit out its venom.
“He didn’t fall for it?” I asked in disbelief, just to be sure. What kind of man would reject her? I asked as I ran my eyes over her form. She was beautiful and filled up in the right places.
She hissed. “He chased me out like I was a diseased dog.”
“What?” I sighed. No wonder she was furious.
I had thought of not starting a war and making Ethan give up on his wife by himself. It hadn’t been easy getting someone he knew and wouldn’t be suspicious of to go to his land and do what I wanted. It had been pure luck when I found Sharon and realized that she had been once close to Ethan. I had talked her into going over to his place and seduce him or make Ava get mad at him that she didn’t want him anymore. It had been so easy to convince her to do the job when she had heard of how much I wanted to pay and she wasn’t so close to Ethan that she would mind if their relationship got broken.
I didn’t think that she would fail me as she had many past records of acting and she had always done what her clients wanted to the best of her ability. I didn’t think that she was going to fail. I wouldn’t have contacted her if I hadn’t trusted her.
The good thing about the arrangement that I liked was that I didn’t think Ethan knew she was an actress and so he wouldn’t have suspected that she wasn’t being real with her seduction. I hissed and clenched my hands in annoyance. Of what use was it at the moment if she was being real or not when she had been thrown out of the land?
“He did.” She sighed. “I didn’t think that I had ever been embarrassed in my life like that.”
I glanced at her, narrowing my eyes as I looked at her. She had said she didn’t think she had ever been embarrassed but I felt a hint of respect in her voice as she spoke. I growled low in my throat in annoyance as I scowled at her. How could she dare to show that she liked and respected Ethan for rejecting her, right in my presence?
I was starting to doubt she had done what she was meant to do when she had gotten to where Ethan and Ava lived. I wondered if she had been impressed by their show of love and had forgotten all about her assignment.
I needed to be sure she had done the right thing. “What did you do when you got there?”
She frowned at me, suspecting that I was trying to blame her for the failure of the mission. Her intelligence was sometimes shocking but then, I wouldn’t have asked her on the mission if she wasn’t.
“I did exactly what you wanted me to do. I got all clingy with Ethan in front of Ava and I was sure that she was jealous. I was all up in his face till he started to avoid me.”
He avoided her? He was more of a good man than I had given him credit for but I didn’t need him to be a good man. I needed him to be a villain to Ava so I could be the hero to him.
“I used the information you told me about.”
I nodded. That was good. I had told her of how Ava had been the one to like Ethan first before he did and had decided to twist it for my own benefit. I was certain that it was likely that Ava would be mad at him if she was made to believe that her mate married her for the throne and not because he wanted her.
“You did?”
“Yes. He threw me out after that.”
“What of Ava?” I asked, leaning forward on my seat with excitement. “What was her reaction when she heard you say that Ethan loves her because of the throne and got her pregnant to secure his generation on the throne? She was there when you said it, right? You said it loud enough for her to hear, right?”
I was curious to know what her response had been. It wasn’t possible that she would have heard that and still choose to stay with her husband. No woman would hear that and not feel bothered, and that was what I wanted. I wanted there to be a chip in their relationship so I can find my way in through that crack.
Sharon swallowed and nodded. “Yes, Ava was there when I said those words to Ethan. She didn’t react and only watched with glee as he threw me out.”
“What!” I was angry, my hands flying off the chair. “What was wrong with her? How could she not have doubted him and believe that you could have been right? I didn’t think that she was that silly.”
“It seems like she trusts her husband.” She said. She pursed her lips as if she would like to say more, as if she would like to say that I was the one being silly.
I didn’t think that was what she wanted to say. She couldn’t have dared to say that to me. I was Scorpio and would have had her head in a jiffy if she had been stupid enough to insult me.
Maybe I was being overworked from the mission that failed and forced myself to calm down.
“You can go now. One of the maids would attend to you when you get out of this room.”
She bowed her head. “Thank you, your highness.” She said and moved out of the room.
I bit down hard on my lips as I thought of what to do with the annoying couple. I had thought that I could avoid bloodshed if they got divorced but it seemed like there was no other way to get what I wanted than to do what I planned to do initially. I was going to kill Ethan and make his people my captives. I was going to make Ava my queen after doing that, giving her no choice but to be mine.
It was time to go to war.
