Mia
“If I hadn’t known better, I would say that was the angry wolf of an alpha.” Jack chuckled as he walked in, together with his brothers.
“Might as well be.” John smiled. “After all, she is destined to be the Luna and since there is no other Luna, she can demonstrate the powers of one. Dad being alive as the alpha of the pack is the reason we can’t growl as alphas yet. It’s not the same for Mia as there is no existing Luna.”
I sighed as I looked at them. What were they trying to do? Were they trying to remind me of the death of their mother too because the death of my father was brought up? I shook my head, hating that I was being unnecessarily sensitive. They wouldn’t have done that.
“Why didn’t you come in as you usually do?” I asked them to get the annoyance off my chest. “I was surprised to find out that you were the ones when you entered after the knock. I had thought that it was someone else.”
Quinn grinned. “We could have done that but it’s obvious that you would be in a mood at the moment and we didn’t want to make you annoyed more.”
I nodded at them. “Thanks for the consideration.”
“You are always welcome.”
“Did mum send you to talk to me?”
Jack snorted. “Why would your mum do that? It’s your family matter. We are here on our own.”
I nodded. “Are you here to tell me not to go? You don’t have to worry about that because I don’t intend to.”
Quinn sighed. “We are not here to tell you what to do. We are here on our own as we said because this is a relationship matter. We are here to know what our girlfriend intends to do about the issue.”
“Your girlfriend doesn’t intend to be a baroness.” I told them.
I thought they would smile and cheer that I didn’t want to leave. How could I leave them behind and bear being apart from them? They didn’t smile at all and their expressions were as hard as that of a stone. I looked at them, wondering what was wrong with them.
“What?” I asked, gulping. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Are you sure you don’t want to own the title and earn what your father would want you to? I’m sure he would be proud of this day if he could see you.” John asked.
Now that he put it that way, I felt ashamed of saying no. I wanted to make dad proud and didn’t want him to feel annoyed at me that I was trying to reject his heritage. I sighed. Why did they have to put it that way? Why did they have to act like I was being a bad child for not thinking of it that way?
“Why don’t you want to accept the position?” John asked. “Why are you trying to avoid it?”
Why wouldn’t I? I snorted. Couldn’t they see that I was trying to do it all for their sake? Well, I must admit that I was rejecting the position for my sake as well. I had to be honest with myself. I was their mate and couldn’t help but be the Luna of the pack soon. I didn’t think that I was going to be able to be the Luna of a strong werewolf pack and the baroness of a country at the same time. I was going to be stressed juggling the two leadership positions together. I didn’t want that stress for myself.
“I don’t want to be apart from you.” I said instead.
The three of them smiled at me. “I’m sure we would find a way to deal with that. If you are going to do your Masters program, I’m sure you would have gone and we would still be able to keep in touch. Think of this as another adventure, Mia. We are never going to be affected by this. Remember a wolf loves forever. We are stuck with you.”
I smiled. “I know. I’m stuck with you as well. I’m a wolf too, remember? I’m going to love you forever as well. It’s not that I am afraid of us breaking up, I know that wouldn’t ever happen, I don’t want to miss you at all and that is going to be hard to do if we are apart.”
Quinn smiled. “I’m sure we will find a way around it if we want the title and the relationship. There is always a way around anything if the choice is there.”
I nodded. He was right about that. “You are right about that.” I smiled at him.
“Of course, we are always right, baby.” Jack grinned.
I rolled my eyes and smiled at him. “Don’t start with me, boy.” I wagged my finger at him.
“So are you going to go home and claim your father’s heritage and do him proud?” Quinn asked.
I nodded. Now that he put it that way, I didn’t think that I had any other choice. “I think so.”
They looked at one another and smiled. “Let’s go back outside and give your family members the answers that they had been dying to get.”
I wished I could give them more suspense before giving them my approval – after all, they deserved it – but I nodded all the same and went outside to the men waiting for me.
Their eyes lighted up as they saw me and I wondered if indeed they hadn’t been the one who had sent the boys to convince me. I looked at the boys but their expressions, as usual, didn’t betray anything. They weren’t even looking at my family members.
I shrugged off my suspicion and decided to look at the future. I had decided to inherit my father’s fortune and that was all that mattered.
