Mia
I woke up, surprised that I was in my bedroom, the one I had picked for myself in the house before the king decided to make me his court maid and I became his unofficial resident doctor. I didn’t know if I had passed out while shifting or had fallen asleep when I was done.
I wondered if the boys had had a rough night staying by my side. I wondered how long I was a wolf for and kept them awake. They must have waited all night with me as one of them definitely got me inside and tucked me in bed.
With the way I was naked, the shift must have been successful and I had lost my clothes. I groaned, lamenting the loss of my clothes. I loved those clothes and wouldn’t have worn them if I had known that I was going to shift that night.
I sighed, feeling silly. I should have been conscious of the full moon and knew what day it was. I had known that I was going to shift ever since the wolves had bitten me. Why couldn’t I remember that? I snorted, getting over my sulk. It was just a gown and it wasn’t as if I didn’t have many beautiful ones to replace it.
I stretched and hopped out of bed, deciding to go out to see the boys. I gasped as I stood up, my eyes widening in a mix of delight and surprise. I had never felt this good. My bones were stronger than I had ever felt it and I felt lighter than I had ever been in days. Was this how the boys always feel? No wonder they were fast and flexible. I felt like I could enrol for the Olympics with how I felt.
Asides being stronger, I checked my body to know where else I had changed but I couldn’t find it. Only my muscles and bones felt like they had gone through a lift.
I ran to the mirror to check if my eye color had changed or my skin was glowing but nothing of such had happened. I sighed. It seemed that the shift had only ridden my body of fatigue. I couldn’t remember much of much had happened the previous night. I guessed it had failed and I wasn’t meant to be a wolf. How was I going to stay by the boys’ side and be the Luna if I couldn’t even shift properly?
I was depressed as I walked out of my bedroom to the dining room where the boys were.
Jack smiled as he saw me. “I was just coming to get you. Sit and let’s have breakfast.”
I sat without a word. John noticed the expression on my face. “Are you sad about what happened last night?”
I glanced up at him and wanted to cry. So, it was indeed true that I had been unable to shift. I lost my appetite. I didn’t think that I could face them. I felt embarrassed to be with them and wondered if they were regretting picking a failure as me as their mate.
Why did I have to be a half-formed wolf? I couldn’t stop wondering why the shift had failed. It wasn’t meant to. I was certain that I could hear, see and sense what I couldn’t have as a human. Had I just become a chimera?
“You don’t have to feel guilty about it.” Jack smiled. “It was bound to happen.”
I snorted. “Why would I feel guilty?”
They looked at me as if I had grown horns on my head. It would have been better if I had grown fur on my skin to show that I had successfully gone through the shift.
Why would I feel guilty about not shifting? I felt disgusted with myself. I realized that Jack was smiling at me and almost asked him if he was serious. Was he kidding that that was bound to happen? Didn’t he want me to shift?.
I gasped and pushed my plate forward as memories of what happened last night finally rushed into my brain like a late bus. I gasped as I stared at them. Had I truly done that?
My eyes softened as I stared at them and I felt ashamed of myself. I had been a beast. It was no wonder they told me not to feel guilty.
Their expressions lightened as they saw the look on my face and they began to laugh.
“Seems like she finally remembered.” Jack chuckled.
Oh yes, I did. I cringed at the memory of what I had done. I had shifted and bared my teeth at the boys, howling as I struggled to get free from the chains. I had chattered my teeth at them as if I was telling them how I was going to chew them if I got my teeth on them. I had clawed at the ground, making screeching sounds against it and would have dug through the floor if it hadn’t been tiled.
I winced as I remembered another memory and covered my head in shame, bowing it over my hands. I had almost choked myself to death by going around the chain and looped it around my neck while I was being aggressive. Jack had gotten near me to loosen the chain around my neck so I wouldn’t murder myself and I had rewarded him by biting him hard on his leg.
I remembered when I finally stopped and sagged on the ground, shifting from a wolf back to a girl. It was the same Jack I had sunk my teeth into his flesh who picked me up and carried me to the bedroom. I looked at him and he didn’t seem annoyed. He was smiling at me as I sat there, looking at them all with a dazed look. No wonder he had told me I could avoid it. He had been referring to the bite.
I closed my eyes and looked away from them. I couldn’t believe that I had been that aggressive. I knew that they had told me it was likely that I become aggressive but I didn’t think that I was going to be that crazy.
Even the boys hadn’t hurt me despite being under the curse of the dark wizard the night they had shifted. I really needed to learn control.
“Enough of looking like you lost your job, Mia.” Quinn said. “Let’s have breakfast before it gets cold.”
I started laughing as I realized something important. I stopped feeling guilty and was excited. I couldn’t contain my joy that I had finally shifted. I had been worried for nothing. I wasn’t a failure as a werewolf. I was relieved that I had the chance of being the Luna of the pack and being with the boys.
“What is wrong with you?” Quinn narrowed his eyes at me.
“It’s nothing.” I said with a shake of my head even though I was still laughing.
He shrugged. “Whatever, suit yourself. Let’s finish our breakfast on time so we can have your training on how to use your claws and teeth in a fight and also control yourself when you are in wolf form. I have told Ava and Rudolph that You aren’t available today.”
He wasn’t done talking before I started to scoop food into my mouth. I was happy that I had shifted and my appetite was back. I couldn’t sit still and waste time when I knew that I was about to start lessons on how to be the badass werewolf that I had always thought of becoming when I finally have my shift.
They chuckled as they watched me rushing my food. “Are you that excited about learning how to be a wolf?”
I smiled at them with food in my mouth. If only they knew. I waved at them with my hand, urging them to eat their food.
“Eat so we can start on time.”
They chuckled as they scooped their food into their mouth. I smiled all through the meal. It was about to be an exciting and long day.
