I was bored. I was bored with the meeting already. Was it always this long? I couldn’t believe that I had always loved this. What was this? This was just long talk and nothing else between it. I needed something fun and somehow, my mind knew what it wanted.
I looked out of the window. Had the werewolves not gotten back from their vacation yet? They were supposed to be here by now. They should have gotten home and realized that their father was stolen. They should have been told that we were the one who took him. I had made sure my men bared their fangs so his people wouldn’t make any mistake about who had raided their house. His people should have called them and they should have cut short their vacation.
I wondered if they were going to come. Maybe they weren’t. Maybe they didn’t care about their father as I thought. What kind of sons went on a vacation when their father was in a state as that? Sons who didn’t give a damn about their father.
I didn’t know how I knew this but I knew that there was a girl that they cared about. Maybe I should have taken her. If only I had found her but I didn’t. I had been told that they had gone on the vacation together. That could be why they weren’t back from the vacation yet despite hearing that their house had been raided. They were with the one they cared about. They would have been here a day ago if it was the girl I had taken.
They were bastards if they didn’t come for their father and I almost pitied the poor man. It must be horrible to have his sons forsake him because of the love of a woman. I had heard that wolves were faithful to their partners and didn’t care about anything else asides them but I didn’t think that it was going to be as worse as this.
I yawned and gasped at what I had done. As expected, the royal officials were looking at me as if I had grown two heads but they weren’t permitted to gossip about it right in my face.
As usual, Rudolph didn’t give a damn about such boundaries and looked at me with a piercing gaze and a sneer on his lips.
“Are you bored, your highness?”
I nodded. “It seems so.”
The officials gasped as if they couldn’t believe what they had heard and I frowned, looking at them and wondering what was wrong with them.
“Is anything the problem? Did I say anything wrong? Is a king not allowed to be bored?”
Augustus shook his head, his wide eyes getting wider as he spoke as if he couldn’t still believe what was going on.
“It’s not that, your highness. You always love meetings like this. You urge us to go on talking about general affairs even when the time for the meetings has lapsed. It’s shocking to hear that you are bored. We never could have imagined that a day like this would come.”
I shrugged. “A man can change.”
“What a weird coincidence that you changed after the fall, your highness. Are you sure you are fine, your highness?” Rudolph asked.
“I am.” I nodded, looking at Rudolph with annoyance.
I had thought that we were done with this conversation. I didn’t know that he was going to bring it up here. What was wrong with him? Did he want to cause a rebellion in the palace? Was he trying to take advantage because he was my friend? I gritted my teeth, seething with annoyance. He shouldn’t force me to take legal actions against him. I wouldn’t be so nice to him if he crossed his boundaries again.
I fixed him a stare that said it all. He didn’t even blink at me even though he knew what I meant. He had definitely grown wings. I scowled at him.
“Can we end this meeting? I’m tired and would like to go in to my chambers.” I said and rose up from the throne I was on without waiting for their response.
They could do and say whatever they chose to when I was gone. I didn’t care about it. The boys had disappointed me. What a set of cruel boys. They should have shifted and gotten here as fast as they could.
I was about to leave when the guards at the border came in with three men and one young lady. They were here. They were finally here. I sat back, my lips moving back in excitement.
Rudolph glanced at me, noticed the change in my countenance and narrowed his eyes at me but I didn’t care.
“What is the problem?” I asked the guards as I sat on the throne, trying to compose myself.
I didn’t know why but I was excited that the wolves were here. I glanced at the boys and my lips peeled in a snarl at the sight of them. I hated them but didn’t know why. I glanced at the lady and wanted to rush to her and scoop her in my arms. It felt like I knew her. I wanted her and that confused me. I was so certain that I hadn’t met her. What was this feeling?
I couldn’t rush to her side right here and embrace her as I wanted to. My court officials would gasp. They might have been fine with the changes that they had been complaining in me but that was going to be the height of it. They weren’t going to sit still and watch me embrace another lady when I had my life mate and we would be getting married in the next fortnight.
What was wrong with me? I was starting to believe that something was wrong with me as they kept on saying. I didn’t think that I was fine or could keep on pretending that I was. Why was I thinking of running into the arms of another person when I had my girl? I should be thinking of Ava and not some girl that I didn’t know her name.
Mia.
“Oh!” I gasped out loud.
Did I just think of the girl’s name? Where had that come from? I couldn’t believe it. I had memories that weren’t mine. I would have to check in with the doctor again. It wasn’t possible that I was like this and he kept on telling me that I was fine. I wasn’t. Maybe I had hit my too hard when I had fallen and my brain was suffering an identity crisis.
“Good day, your highness.” The guard began. “These werewolves said they would like to see you.”
The other officials gasped but Rudolph wasn’t perturbed. He knew that the werewolves were going to come. He only seemed annoyed that they were around. We had been living in secrecy for ages without the knowledge of humans and other supernatural creatures so he was mad that I had made werewolves come to our land. He was worried about what was going to happen.
“Why are you here?” I turned to the werewolves and asked even though I knew why they were here.
“Your highness, if you don’t mind, we would like to have a word alone with you.”
Rudolph was afraid of them being alone with me and probably attacking me. “The king is tired. Find a place for the guests and he will talk to them later.”
I scoffed at Rudolph. “I’m perfectly okay but I don’t think that I want to listen to werewolves who dared to come into my land without being invited. Throw them in the dungeon with the prisoners without giving them water or food. I will have them executed tomorrow.”
Mia gasped and looked at me as if I was crazy. I felt sad at the look in her eyes and wanted to comfort her and tell her that she wasn’t part of those that I was going to kill tomorrow. I was going to find a reason to keep her alive even though I was going to kill the others.
I needed to retire to my chambers soon so I could think. What was wrong with me?
“Guards!” I shouted and watched with satisfaction as they took the shape-shifting guests away.
I ignored the look on their faces as they were taken away. What were they expected when they had come here? That I was going to have a peaceful conversation with them, release their father to them and they were going to go back home safe and sound? They were more stupid than I had ever thought if that was what they assumed.
The court officials bowed and quietly walked out of the room after the guards had taken the werewolves to prison.
Rudolph walked up to me when everyone was gone. “What are you thinking? You raided their house without a reason and decide to throw them in prison for coming to ask you why you did that?”
“I’m finally getting rid of my enemies.”
“Your enemies?” He snorted. “You have never even met these people.”
“I know them.”
“You are crazy.” He sighed and shook his head, looking at me as if he had given up on me and truly believed what he had said.
I thought of how my plans were playing out and I started laughing. I was too much in a good mood that I wasn’t bothered with thinking of how to punish my friend for daring to call his king crazy.
