Quinn
I knew it. I knew dad would have something in his library. I knew he would have done some research on them. The man was well versed and knowledgeable in research that I wondered how he had everything and had the time to date and his work.
“You are coming with us.” I told Mia as I brought out the map and ran my eyes over it, memorizing the landscapes and the miles we would have to walk.
Those bastards must have come with a private plane as their land wasn’t accessible by road from where we were. I couldn’t stop wondering why they would go through all that stress to come here when we had no business with them.
She snorted and rolled her eyes. “As if you have any other alternative. Would I have stayed at home and wait for you even if you had told me that I couldn’t come with you?”
I chuckled. She had a point. She wouldn’t have stayed at home. What was the point of arguing with her? Moreover, I couldn’t leave her at home and have something happen to her.
I would be crushed if we got back from getting the statue of dad back and heard that zombies had raided our house and she had been taken by them. Not that I knew if zombies existed but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did after all I had experienced while on the island of Gayalluc. I wouldn’t even be surprised to find out that dad had a book on them if he did.
Maybe he did, maybe he didn’t but at the moment, I didn’t care. I only needed information on the vampires and that was what we were getting.
I spread the map before me on the table so my brothers and Mia could see it well. I placed one hand on the table as I placed the other on my face, stroking my chin as I was lost and deep in thought.
“It seems like a complicated journey. I am not sure they risked that distance just to spite you.” Mia said. “There must be a reason for this.”
I nodded. “Of course, there is and I intend to find out what it is from their leader.”
“Are you telling me we are going there to ask them quizzes like some elementary school competition?” Jack hissed.
“We can’t fight them Jack.” John sighed. “We would be outnumbered. Remember what the butler had said. He said they were much when they came here. Even if he didn’t say that, they had to be much to have caused that much damage and scatter in the house. Now, imagine us going to their land to fight with them, all of them. That doesn’t make sense. That would be us asking for death on a cheap platter. We can’t fight go against all of them and survive it. Remember that vampires are also strong supernatural beings and there are only three of us.”
“Four.” Mia said, pointing at herself.
“Three.” John insisted without bothering to look at her.
I wanted to laugh at the expression on Mia’s face. She seemed offended but she should have gotten used to this already. We would have to be crazy before we ask her to join us in a fight. Moreover, we weren’t planning to fight with the vampires when we get there. We hoped to avoid that as much as we could.
“Okay. I agree.” Jack said reluctantly. “We are going there to organize a quiz.”
“Don’t be so sarcastic about it.” Mia chuckled.
“Am I?” He snorted.
“You are in the best position to answer that.” She replied.
John and I looked at each other and shook our heads. It was best to ignore the two of them when they were having their banters. Jack loved it and Mia enjoyed challenging him. I wasn’t in the mood for the two of them at the moment.
John shifted closer to me and we conversed in low tones, checking out the map and debating on what the easiest route for us would be.
We couldn’t go there as they had come here. I didn’t want to bring anyone else into this. I didn’t want to start explaining what we were doing to get a plane and a pilot clear out. I had used too much favors on the last journey and I didn’t want to start using more on this one.
It had been easy getting a plane then as I had informed them that we were going on a vacation. I had used a favor to prevent questions from being asked. We got back without using the plane or any other. It would have been known if we had used a commercial plane to get back but there was no record of that.
I knew that our lie that we had found a billionaire on our trip who took us home in his jet and then we had taken a cab straight home instead of where our car was parked wasn’t believed. The lie wasn’t believed and it would be a problem now if we have to ask for another plane to go on another undisclosed journey. We couldn’t lie again that we were going on another journey after coming back from one and there was nothing else to say as excuse. Questions would definitely flow this time, we had no way of avoiding them.
It was better that we found another way of getting to that land on our own.
Mia noticed that I was talking in hush tones with John. “Are the two of you planning something without our knowledge?” She said moving closer to us.
I snorted. “I figured the two of you would join us when you are ready.”
Jack chuckled. “Typical Quinn.”
“Got a plan yet?” Mia asked.
“Not yet.” I replied. “Hopefully, typical Jack would come to our rescue.” I teased him.
Mia laughed. “That was funny, Quinn but you know you didn’t have to do that.”
I shrugged. “Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t.” I said, smiling at her as I hoped that wasn’t going to be the last time she would smile this month as we commence our journey.
