Mia
“What is this?” Jack asked.
I nodded. What was that? I was about to ask Neigh that same question. Was he sure that he wanted us to get home safely? I was suspicious of him because he looked like he was about to kill us instead.
“The exit hole.” He smiled at Jack. “You are always full of questions.”
“I learned from best.” He said, pointing at me.
I blushed. He didn’t have to put it all on my head.
“Are you sure this is the exit?” I asked Neigh.
“Or it is a grave for burying those who came to the island for daring to step in?” Jack added.
Neigh laughed. “Why are you being funny when you are leaving? Even if it is a grave for burying those who came to the island, would I do that to you after all that we had been through together? It would be nice if you guys can trust me as I trust and see you as my friends.”
“It’s sad that we will have to break up now, friend.” Jack grinned at him.
I sighed. He was making it too obvious that he didn’t want to stay here. I believed Neigh wanted us to stay a little bit longer but he didn’t know how to ask.
Neigh sighed. “I know, but if ever you find your way back here, just say my name and I will come to where you are when I hear the echo.”
I smiled. I didn’t think that was ever going to happen. I didn’t ever want to come here again and deal with all that I had dealt with.
“How do we get home then if truly this is the exit?” Quinn asked. “Do we land on the road or what?”
“No. Landing anywhere can be a problem as you wouldn’t know what the place is and what was already happening there. It would be a disaster I was sure you wouldn’t want if you landed in a place where a lot of human beings are gathered. I don’t know much about your world but I’m sure you would have some explanation to do if that happened.”
I grimaced. More than some explanation. There would be cameras flying all around, police inquiries and a lot of blog posts about our sudden, out-of-nowhere appearance. We would trend for months on the net and others would say that we were aliens and nor humans which was partly true. I shuddered at the mental image of what would have happen if we just land in our world like that.
I groaned. “We don’t want that.”
“I thought as much.” Neigh nodded. “The four of you should decide on where you want to land in your world, fix that image in your head and you will get there.”
“I think we should go home. That will save us a lot of trouble.” Quinn suggested. “We can cancel the arrangement for the plane and have someone pick the car where we dropped it when we get home.”
“Nice idea.” John nodded. “Our phones are all dead and we don’t have to start looking for a place to charge before we can make calls. Going home will be nice.”
“Where do we go to?” Quinn asked. “Dad’s study? The garden?”
“We might freak the staff out if we end up appearing out of nowhere in the garden. We had forbidden the staff from cleaning dad’s study so the place would be filled with dust by now. We don’t want to choke to our deaths on getting home.” John said.
“Then let’s get to any of our rooms. That will be cleaned up. Let’s pick Mia’s room.” Jack said.
“My room?” I gasped. “Why?”
“We are all familiar with your room more than you are with ours.”
I blushed as I realized that he was right. Neigh stood by, watching us with amusement and didn’t say a word all through the time that we were deliberating.
“It’s good to know that you finally made your choice. The lady’s room, is it?” He asked.
I could sense that he was teasing me but when I looked at his face, his expression was as blank we anything else could have been.
“Yes.” Quinn nodded in confirmation.
“You can go. Remember to picture the place in your head or you might end up somewhere else.” Neigh said.
“Thank you.” We slung our bags over our shoulders and held our hands, intending to go at the same time. Even if one of us missed the picture in their head, the other could still pull him home regardless.
“Goodbye,” Neigh said.
“Bye.” We replied him and jumped into the hole at the same time.
