Mia
“Will you like to join me?” He asked, extending his hand to me.
I snorted. “Would that not make me a fool? Why would I work with you after you tried to kill me? Don’t pretend as if that snake wasn’t sent by you.” I had been told that he could control snakes.
He scoffed. “Why would I pretend the snake wasn’t sent by me? Hora wouldn’t like that I denied him. That was my favourite snake by the way. Do you know how much power I had to feed it to make it that big and now it’s dead? I am pained at the moment because of its death but life moves on. If Hora’s death could get you to my side, it was worth it. I’m sure he would agree. He was a loyal soldier of the cause, you know?”
“The cause?” I frowned in confusion.
I wondered why the boys weren’t charging at him as they wanted to do but I guessed that they wanted information from the dark wizard as well. Moreover, if he was distracted from talking to me, it was going to be easy to catch him unaware and get rid of him.
I smiled to myself at my thought, glad that I was already thinking like a soldier. If only I could convince Albert to let me go on the voyage to the sea of death. I had a personal grudge against the dark wizard and would love to put an end to him myself (if possible) or be part of the team.
“Yes, the cause.” The dark wizard replied. “My plan is to rule over the world with my powers. I would have succeeded if their father -” he said with a glare directed at the boys “- hadn’t gotten in my path and disrupted my plans twenty years ago. He dared to lock me up, leaving me almost dead.”
I wanted to say that served him right but I knew this wasn’t the moment for that.
“Will you like to rule with me, Mia?” He offered again.
“Tell that to someone you didn’t just try to kill.”
He laughed. “Oh, you know how to hold a grudge.”
I snorted. He had no idea.
He continued, lowering his voice as if he was talking to an infant. I wondered if he was using compulsion but so far, I had no reaction.
“I sent the snake to you but I wasn’t planning to kill you. Why would I kill you? You are an important part of my plan. I heard from Sasha that the boys were overprotective of their sister and wanted to confirm how far they were willing to go to protect her. I realized that they would sacrifice their lives for you. Why would I kill someone as important as that?”
I snorted. He had the ability to control snakes so he must be an excellent liar as the first ancient serpent was.
“What if they hadn’t been around? What if I had died?”
He snorted, getting annoyed and frustrated with my nagging questions. “You wouldn’t have died. Haven’t I just told you how important you are to me? I knew your brothers were around you and would protect you. It seems like you have a problem with accepting how important you are, Mia.”
“Don’t you dare insult me!” I hissed at him, already hoping that this meeting would be over, without any casualties of course.
I knew the boys wouldn’t walk away while he was still here and he didn’t seem ready to walk away either.
The dark wizard sighed. “I do not insult you, Mia. Now, what do you think of my offer? Would you like to join me? I can even make you my bride.”
The wolves growled and charged at me with their bangs bared out. I shook my head at their impatience and anger issues. They should have waited for me to respond. It wasn’t like I was going to go with the dark wizard and be his bride. I was going to kill myself before I let that paragon of evil claim me.
I would rather be their mate, as crazy as I still found it, than be an ally of the dark wizard.
I realized that the boys knew that I wasn’t going with the dark wizard but had gotten annoyed at his audacity to ask me out.
I blinked as the wolves froze in mid-air just as they were about to leap at the dark wizard. He had his finger curled and snorted at them. “What insolence? How dare you think that you can defeat me?”
I watched, my eyes widening in horror as the wolves struggled to break free of the bond.
“What are you doing?” I yelled at the dark wizard.
“They are in a bind. They won’t be able to move until I let them.” He smirked at me. “Someone needs to teach the boys a lesson, don’t you think, Mia?”
I snorted. “As if you don’t need to be taught a lesson yourself.” I said, surprising myself with my words and wondering where my courage came from.
He chuckled. “Now is not the time to be analyzing moral values, Mia and putting them on a scale to know whose is higher.”
“Let them go.” I pleaded with him.
“Ouch. Now you wound me. What do you care if they live or die? I heard you don’t like your brothers.”
I didn’t reply him, seething with anger.
The dark wizard smiled. “Seems like I heard right, seeing how you can’t respond to that.”
“Let them go.”
“Why?” He asked, arching his eyebrows at me.
He seemed to be having fun and that infuriated me more. I hated that.
He flicked his finger and the boys landed on the floor. I winced as I heard their fall, hoping they were not hurt too much.
“What is wrong with you?” I yelled.
“Didn’t you tell me to let them go? I did. Why is it always so hard to please a woman?”
I was about to rush to the wolves and help them up when I realized that they weren’t moving. My heart skipped a beat as I feared that they were dead.
I turned to the dark wizard in a wizard, filled with an insane urge to jump at him and claw out his eyes for killing the boys.
“Did you kill them?” I snarled at him.
“You are hilarious if you think they can easily die like that because I flung them to the ground.”
I allowed my heart to calm down. Thank goodness. They weren’t dead.
“Why aren’t they moving?”
“Because I still have them in a bind.” The dark wizard said, laughing.
