Mia
I was ashamed of myself. What was I going to do? How was I going to face the brothers or their father? It was at this moment that I was glad that my mum wasn’t a werewolf with weird nose that could sniff out what someone had done in secret.
I couldn’t imagine how I would feel if she also knew by looking at me that I had slept with Quinn. I wouldn’t have been able to deal with the look in her eyes. I would have asked that the ground opened up and swallowed me. I would have cried and begged till it did.
I could barely sleep that night, as expected. I tossed about till it was daybreak. When it was dawn, I was about to go out for breakfast when I saw how I looked.
I gasped at my reflection in the mirror. I couldn’t go out like that. I looked like I had gone to a war front and fought a whole lot of battles overnight. There was no how I was going to avoid answering questions if I stepped out looking like that.
I brushed my teeth, cleaned up and dressed in a casual comfy dress. I didn’t move an inch when it was time for breakfast.
Someone knocked on my door five minutes after breakfast and I hurriedly picked a face cap and pulled it over my head to cover my face. I didn’t know which of the maids was at the door. It could be someone who liked to gossip and I didn’t want any unhealthy rumours flying around in the house about me.
The last thing I needed was for everyone to believe that I had come back home because I was jilted and had spent the whole night crying, missing my ex.
Of course, the werewolves would know that was a lie but I doubted they would bother to clear up the misunderstanding on my behalf. That would even be better than people finding out what truly happened.
Nothing was better and I was determined to avoid both the truth and a rumour flying around.
“Hey,” I said to the maid, poking out my head.
“It’s time for breakfast, Miss.” She said.
I coughed, pretending to be sick and lowered my voice to a whisper. “I’m not feeling fine. Do you mind bringing my breakfast here?”
She nodded. “Not at all, Miss.” She said and went off.
She was back moments later and I made way for her to enter and set up. I looked as tired as I could when she was setting up the tray on the stool.
“Can you please bring up my lunch as well?”
She nodded, her eyes shining with pity. “No problem, Miss. Take care of yourself.”
“I will.” I nodded.
She was going to bring dinner to my room as well but there was no need to tell her that yet. She was going to get suspicious and wonder if I didn’t plan on getting better before that time. If she was smart, she was going to know that I was trying not to be out.
“Thank you. You may leave.” I told her.
She nodded and moved towards the door. Just as she was about to get there, she turned and looked back.
“Should I get you drugs?”
I shook my head. “No, you don’t have to bother. I just need to rest and I would be back to health.”
I just needed to avoid the werewolves till I could rush back to work tomorrow.
She nodded and left. I regretted telling her not to get me drugs after she left. I should have asked her to get me some sedatives. After I cleared my breakfast, my thoughts were rowdy, trying to drown me that I thought of sleeping to drown the noise but unfortunately, I couldn’t.
I had lunch brought to me and I ate. Two hours after lunch, I felt stuffy in the room and wanted to go out. I couldn’t go out to the living room as I could run into anyone there.
I thought of where I could get myself some privacy in the house and eventually decided to go to the garden.
From what I knew, it had become a deserted place because of the dark wizard making it the perfect place for me at the moment. It wasn’t like the dark wizard could show his face suddenly right there in the garden without alerting the werewolves.
I wasn’t going to be far from the house either. It wasn’t like I was going into the cave.
I hadn’t been there for five minutes before I regretted my actions. I could hear the boys laughter as they moved towards the garden. I stood up to walk away before they saw me but it was too late.
They were faster than I was, after all.
We all stood there in silence, staring at one another. I knew why they were staring at me and wondered if they asked themselves why I was staring at them.
“I had no idea that we would see you today.” John smiled at me but I could tell that he didn’t mean it.
I could say the same thing about them.
For the first time that I could remember, he looked at me like he was trying to force himself to smile.
I let out a sigh. There was a tension among us, far greater than the one we had always had. An emotional chasm was forming in our midst and I felt like the gap was choking me up.
I couldn’t breathe and looked past them, hoping to find a way to escape from the garden and away from them. I shouldn’t have left my room.
“I thought you were not feeling fine.” Jack asked.
“That was why I needed some air.”
“What is your diagnosis?” Jack arched his eyebrows at me. “Or are you pregnant?” His words were teasing but his tone was gruff.
I blushed. I couldn’t even call his bluff and say that I hadn’t been having sex unlike them. They were going to laugh at me if I said that. It wasn’t a good idea for me to call their bluff when they knew the truth.
“Jack.” Quinn hissed at him. “That’s enough. Don’t take out your anger on Mia.”
“Of course, I shouldn’t get mad at our darling little sister.”
“Please excuse me.” I said and ran out from the garden, holding back my tears as I made my way back to my room.
I didn’t think I was ever going to get rid of my shame anytime I saw my brothers.
I knew that a maid was going to bring my dinner to the room if I didn’t show up at the dining room. I left the door open so I wouldn’t have to stand up to open it when she knocked on the door.
I jumped up in bed when instead of a maid, it was Jack who walked in carrying my dinner.
“What is going on? Why are you here?” I asked, my eyes wild in terror and shock.
My heart started to pound loudly in my chest and I felt dizzy. What was he doing here when I was trying to avoid them? This was bad. To think that he came all the way to my bedroom. Jack inside my bedroom was never a good story. It was a scenario that never ended well.
“You didn’t show up for dinner. I figured I should bring your food to you.”
I snorted. “A maid could have done that.”
“I thought that you would be touched that your brother cared enough to bring your dinner to you.”
“Now, I’m touched. Please leave.” I said.
He laughed. “That had to be the most sarcastic response I’ve ever heard in days. We both know you are lying through your teeth at the moment and not touched.”
I sighed. “What do you want, Jack?”
He smiled, moving closer to me. He set the food on the stool and straightened it back up.
“That is not really a hard question to answer. I want you.”
I gulped. “You can’t have me.”
His eyes changed, filling with anger. “But Quinn can, right?”
I gasped and fell back on the bed. I had no doubt that he had been dying to say that to me.
“What did you just say?” I asked, choking on my saliva.
“Exactly what you just heard.” He scowled. “Do you think that we wouldn’t know you slept with Quinn? Come on, Mia. For all your games of playing hard to get, it’s amazing that you jumped into bed with Quinn.”
I winced. “I wasn’t playing hard to get. I don’t want you at all.”
He ignored me as if I hadn’t spoken. “I’m not angry, if that is what you are worried about.”
I snorted. Why would I be worried if he was angry or not? Jack could be ridiculously full of himself at times.
He continued. “I think it’s a good thing that you got intimate with Quinn even though I’m a bit jealous. That is hope for me and John. If you can look past your anger to be with Quinn, I’m sure you will get to be with me soon.”
“Snap out of your delusion, Jack.” I hissed at him.
He narrowed his eyes at me. “I think those words are for you, Mia. How many times do I have to remind you that we are a complete package? Being with Quinn is agreeing to be with all of us. I think you should suck up to reality and get a grip on yourself, mate.”
Mate? How quickly I had progressed from sister to mate. Jack was crazy.
“Goodnight, Luna.” He chuckled and left the room.
I stared at him in shock as he walked out of the room. I glanced at the food he had brought in and pushed it away. I didn’t think that I was ever going to be able to eat it. My appetite was ruined already.
