Alexander’s POV
The fighting behind the pack house was getting out of control.
Luke had succeeded in releasing me from Axel’s grasp. He had flung me to the side like a worthless rag doll, leaving me with an open slash back.
Not only was I in terrible pain from the wound on my back, but the poison was also slowly seeping into my veins. I had to shift back into my human form to conserve energy.
“That is going to leave a hefty scar,” Ghost hissed in agony. He was trying his best to heal us, but the process was slow and painful.
“Battle scars,” I replied, with a playful undertone. “This pain is nothing compared to the agony we will be in should we lose our mate.”
A fierce roar grabbed my attention, and I shifted my gaze toward the sound.
Luke’s beast was roaming next to me in a protective stance, defending my broken and bleeding body. His posture looked strong and dominant, while his face was twisted with different emotions.
“He appears… angry,” Ghost said.
“Too angry,” I replied. “Which makes Luke unpredictable.”
With a growl, Axel lunged forward, and my Beta pursued him with equal fervor. He wanted this fight and did not back down from it.
It appears that Luke is finally letting go of his pent-up resentment towards Axel.
“Why is Vito’s concoction not affecting Luke?” I muttered, out of breath. I was sure I heard Luke hiss when he touched the door handle.
Even now, I could still feel the toxic mixture that Vito had mixed burning inside of me.
“I’m not sure,” Ghost replied. “Maybe he’s immune to those ingredients.”
“Or the need to fight Axel is too great,” I muttered. “He is pumped up with adrenalin!”
Worry filled Ghost’s eyes.
“He is speeding up the process and pushing the poison through his body much faster.” Ghost replied, concerned. “If he continues to fight like that…”
I quickly caught up with what Ghost was saying.
“And the adrenalin runs out,” I uttered, fearing that Axel might kill my beta. “His wolf would suffer, grow too feeble to heal itself, and eventually die.”
I was startled by warm hands, and I yelled angrily as I turned to confront my invader.
A warm smile and worried eyes met mine.
“Basilia?” I gasped, astonished. “What are you doing here?”
“Hello, Alpha Back,” she said. “I came to help. Did you honestly believe that I would avoid a fight like this?
Words could not express my gratitude.
Basilia reached into her pocket and produced a tiny blue bottle.
“Drink this,” she said. “And give Beta Luke the remainder.”
She raised the bottle to my lips, and I took a big gulp of half of its contents without protest.
Gagging at the taste, I wanted to spit the contents out, but Basilia covered my mouth with a warning glare.
“I am aware of its awful flavor,” stated Basilia. “However, effective medication never tastes pleasant. Swallow it.”
I nodded and forced myself to swallow, feeling my eyes water and blur at the nasty taste.
The terrible contents instantly spread like fire throughout my body, neutralizing and absorbing Vito’s poison. Ghost was back on his feet in a matter of seconds, shaking out his coat.
I blinked the tears from my eyes and turned to thank Basilia, but she had already moved away from me, heading toward the pack house’s entrance.
“Ensure that you give Beta the remainder,” she called before she disappeared into the pack house.
I turned my focus to Luke. I could see he was in pain, but he was still going strong.
I stood up, shifting into a werewolf, and ran as quickly as I could in the direction of Axel and Luke.
A force knocked me to the ground and held me there just as I was ready to pounce on Axel and take him out.
“F*ck!” I growled, struggling against the invisible hold.
My focus shifted to Vito when he laughed evilly.
“Alpha Black, did you really think I would not defend my flesh and blood?” Vito let out a furious roar.
He moved toward me slowly and came to a stop a foot away. He waved his hands, causing me to squirm and forcing me to shift back to human.
“That bloody Basilia is a pain in my ass,” he muttered. “Did you really think I didn’t see her give you something?”
“Why are you doing this?” I let out an angry roar. “For centuries, there has been harmony between werewolves and witches.”
“That is correct,” Vito stated, taking a silver dagger out of his belt. “However, I intend to dominate every species, even werewolves. You are preventing me from obtaining the power I so desire.”
As a way of intimidating me, Vito moved the dagger from one hand to the other.
“What about your brother?” I asked.
Vito groaned and rolled his eyes in frustration.
“Axel is just a lost puppy in this world,” he sneered. “He will do as I say and mindlessly obey every command. He is not a leader. He is a disgrace to be called a werewolf, and he is incapable of even defending himself.”
Vito grinned vilely, his eyes turning purple as he raised the silver dagger into the air. He was going to drive the dagger into my heart and kill me.
At that very second, before Vito could push the blade into me, a wolf tackled him to the ground, and the invisible force around me was released.
I jumped to my feet, surprised to see that Jax was the one who was attacking Vito. He had shifted back to his human form but left his claws extended.
“This is for the vehicle accident.” I heard Jax roar as he tore Vito’s chest open. “This is for kidnapping Parker!” Jax growled and removed one of Vito’s limps.
Jax was angry, and he seemed to be enjoying torturing Vito and ripping off limbs. He was determined to hurt Vito as much as possible.
Was he the one Jax was searching for?
With just one arm, Vito attempted to fight back, but it was too late; blood was streaming from his arm, and he was going to lose consciousness soon. Vito attempted to hit Jax, but Jax was so furious and uncontrollably angry that he did not even try to dodge.
“This is for trying to erase my memory and leaving a scar on my face,” Jax hissed, snatching Vito around his throat and snapping his neck in two.
A desperate cry pierced the atmosphere, and I turned to face it. Luke managed to bring Axel down and was holding him on the ground.
“Why hasn’t he killed him?” Ghost commented.
“I am not sure,” I answered. “Perhaps he is seeking authorization?”
When I got closer, I noticed that Luke was pale and had cold sweat on his forehead. He appeared to be on the verge of passing out.
Jax charged in, pinning Axel and providing Luke space to back away.
“Drink this,” I said, handing him the bottle. “It will help. I got it from Basilia.”
Luke shifted back into his human form, grabbed the bottle from me, and downed its contents. A look of disgust twisted his face, and Ghost erupted into laughter, finding Luke’s bewildered expression amusing.
“Swallow it,” I demanded, maintaining my calm and giving him a warning glare. “I know it tastes…”
“Alpha Alexander!” A voice carried by a tornado suddenly slammed into me.
