Alexander’s POV
“Over there! Look!” With great excitement, Ghost yapped and pointed his nose toward the lake, where a silver wolf stood overlooking the waters. “I believe that she is the one who is howling in sorrow!”
“Are you sure it is a she-wolf?” I asked, watching the silver beast in wonder. She had a strong, firm body surrounded by a certain magical glow, and her coat was immaculate and smooth.
I have never before seen a beast so magnificent and beautiful.
“I am pretty sure it’s a she-wolf,” he huffed, rolling his eyes at me. “Under the moonlight, only she-wolves appear so beautiful!”
I shook my head and laughed. Sometimes, Ghost could be a bit too dramatic.
We moved in closer, being careful not to startle the wolf, and stopped a few feet away from her to watch her.
She looked out over the lake in silence, as though something bothered her. She appeared anxious, perhaps even depressed.
Who is this wolf?
Her ears perked up at that very moment, and she looked up at the sky.
“Alpha Alexander Black,” My mind was filled with a lovely, warm voice. “Thank you for coming. I am happy you responded to my call. I have been waiting for you.”
Startled that she knew I was there, I stepped back.
How was she aware that it was me?
Did she hear me approaching?
Or was she merely speculating?
“Do I know you?” I stammered, embarrassed by my own nervousness.
The wolf cocked her head idly in my direction, her silver eyes piercing to the core of my being and shaking it.
“Whoa!” Ghost yapped. “Did you feel that?”
I shuddered at where I was. I did not know what to do next.
“Alpha Black, do you not recognize me? She asked, slightly amused by my response.
“No,” I candidly answered. “Do I? Have we previously met?”
The silver wolf yapped at the air, and something like a mist cloud suddenly appeared on the lake.
“What the-”
I watched in amazement as the mist moved to the shore and covered the silver wolf.
“What the hell?” I muttered in shock. It is unlike anything I have ever seen.
A woman rose from the mist and stepped forward, waving her hand for the fog to clear.
Her skin was flawless and snow-white, and her deep blue eyes radiated an unmatched warmth and loveliness that I had never seen before. Her hair was a stunning shade of silver that danced in the wind.
“Do you recognize me now, Alpha?” She teasingly questioned.
“It’s the Mother Moon,” Ghost muttered, dropping his head in submission.
I didn’t process what Ghost was saying; I was staring out into the distance. It was as if the wall inside my mind caved in and the blocked memories were leaking in. It was frightening and overwhelming. However, curiosity about what the memories held kept me from feeling afraid. Will it hold the answers I have been searching for?
“You helped me that night,” I muttered when the flashes slowed and came to a stop. “You observed what occurred, and you prevented Emily from…”
“I did not do much,” she interrupted. “I just helped you use the magic you do not know much about.”
I recall every detail of that evening’s events. Including Axel’s attempted harm, his assault on me, and their treatment of Emily.
I remembered everyone’s faces who were in that cave. I recall how much they wanted to get rid of Emily.
I was unable to allow them to hurt Emily. Like a moth to a flame, I was drawn to her. I felt that somehow she was significant to me.
“Was the magic successful?” I asked as I raised my eyes to meet hers.
“It continues to function,” the goddess replied. However, the magic will not last indefinitely. The end of it is near.”
“Why?” I asked worryingly. “Did I do something wrong?”
“It can only hold so much abuse.”
“They are hurting her,” I asked her, cutting her off and shifting back to human. The fact that I was naked in the goddess’ presence did not bother me. I was losing myself in worry.
“They are,” she said with regret. “But Emily is strong, and she is still holding on. She has faith in your affection. She has not yet caved in.”
However, if they continued to torture her, she might.
Luke was correct. They were hurting my mate.
“Where is she now?” I asked, stepping closer. The goddess must be aware of their hiding place. “Are you aware of her location?”
“I will provide you with required information,” she said.
I squinted my eyes at her, trying to get a read on her. Something sounded off.
“She is not here to tell you where to find our mate,” Ghost hissed.
“Then why is she here?” I replied.
“For a different reason,” Ghost replied. “She feels responsible.”
“Responsible for what?” I snapped.
“Ask her,” he replied.
“You are not going to assist me in finding her, are you? Then what kind of information will you be sharing with me?” I asked angrily. “You are aware that Emily is the mother of my son, the pack Luna, and my mate.”
I was furious and on the verge of losing my mind! How could she be so mean as to keep Emily’s location a secret from me?
My entire body ached to see Emily’s rights upheld. In addition to wanting her back, I also wanted to exact revenge on everyone who had wronged her.
How dare they take what’s mine!
How dare they hurt my queen!
“I know she is your Luna, mate, and the mother of the young prince,” the goddess said, with a gentle tone. “However, I must first share something with you.”
“Something?” I sneered, gritting my teeth. “Is this more important than Emily?”
“It is something critical,” she said. “You will understand when I tell you.”
I shook my head.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of my mate!” I growled.
The goddess, however, did not back down and gave me a kind smile.
A wave of tranquility washed over me, putting me at ease to the point of sleepiness.
“What are you doing to me?” I sat down against a nearby rock and asked. My head was foggy, and my eyes felt heavy.
“This way, I can explain things to you more easily,” she stated.
“But I will be left vulnerable; someone else might take advantage of me,” I argued.
“No one knows you are here,” she said, with a calm and soothing voice. “You are the only one who heard my call, and I will be watching over you.”
I let out a long, slow yawn and closed my eyes, drifting off to a peaceful sleep as I wondered what the goddess had in store for me.
