Chapter 136
No way.
Sarah’s POV:
Tears filled my eyes at once.
“Detective James, please,” I say, my voice cracking with emotion.
“I know I’ve made mistakes, but I’m begging you, have mercy. Let me go home under house arrest, for my daughter’s sake.” I begged earnestly.
“My daughter needs me, and I need her. I promise to cooperate fully, to do everything you need me to do, just please, don’t take me away from her.” I asked.
I could see the hesitation in his eyes, and I press on, desperate to appeal to whatever humanity is left in him.
“Think about it, Detective. My daughter will be given up for adoption, and I’ll never see her again. Is that really what you want?” I said.
“To tear a mother away from her child, to deprive them both of the love and connection they need?” I asked him.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart.
“I know I do not deserve it, but I’m asking for your mercy. Let me go home, under house arrest, and I’ll do everything in my power to make it right.”
“I will cooperate, I’ll testify, I’ll do whatever it takes. Just please, don’t take my daughter away from me.” I continued.
Detective James’s expression remains unyielding, his eyes cold and resolute.
“Sarah, I understand your pleas, but my priority is the safety and well-being of your child. And as long as you’re in custody, I can ensure that.” He replied.
He pauses, his voice firm but measured. “You have confessed to a part of a serious crime, and until the investigation is complete, and brought to justice before you can be free again!” I said.
I feel a surge of frustration and despair, knowing that my words are falling on deaf ears.
“But you don’t understand,” I protest, my voice cracking.
“My daughter needs me. She’s all I have left. Please, have a heart.” I asked him.
But Detective James remains unmoved, his expression unyielding.
“I’m sorry, Sarah. My decision stands. You’ll remain in custody until the trial.” He said as he walked away.
I turned back to go to my cell with my heart heavy with the weight of my circumstances.
I’m facing a long sentence, and I know I won’t be able to care for my precious child. The thought of being separated from my baby is unbearable, but I know it’s the only way to keep them safe.
I am about make the hardest decision of my life. I will give my child up for adoption, knowing it’s the only way to ensure their future happiness and well-being.
Tears stream down my face as I think about the life my child will have without me. Will they ever know how much I love them? Will they ever understand why I had to let them go?
But I push aside my grief and focus on what i needed to do.
I will do everything in my power to make sure my child has a loving home, with parents who will cherish and support them.
I will carry the weight of this sacrifice with me always, but I know it’s the right decision.
My child deserves a life filled with love, stability, and opportunity. And even though it breaks my heart, I know that life is not one I can provide right now. So, with a heavy heart and a deep love, I will let my child go, trusting that they will thrive in their new life.
“Sarah, can you return for a minute?” Detective James returned and called my attention.
Detective James’s eyes bore into mine, his voice firm. “Sarah, who are the men in black suits? Your daughter mentioned them earlier. Who are they, and what do they want with you?”
“Have I been finally caught!” He thoughts ran through my head.
I swallow hard, my heart racing. “I-I don’t know,” I stammer.
“They just showed up, asking questions… I thought they were with you, or maybe the DA’s office.” She said.
Detective James’s gaze intensifies.
“Are you hiding something. Who are they? Are they connected to the Syndicate?” He asked further.
I feel a cold sweat trickling down my spine as I realize how much Detective James already knows.
I hesitate, unsure how much to reveal. But something in his eyes tells me he won’t back down until he gets the truth.
“Fine!” He muttered almost inaudibly.
Detective James’s expression turns stern, and he points to the door, his arm extended, and his finger directed towards the exit.
“You can leave,” he says curtly, his voice firm and commanding.
The single word hangs in the air, heavy with finality. I feel a surge of fear and anxiety, knowing I’ve been dismissed, and that our conversation has come to an abrupt end.
I nod slowly, rising from my chair, my heart racing with anticipation. I cast a glance back at Detective James, hoping to see a glimmer of empathy or understanding, but his face remains unyielding, his eyes cold and unyielding.
I turn and make my way to the door, my footsteps echoing in the silence. I feel a sense of uncertainty and unease, knowing that my fate hangs in the balance, and that Detective James holds the keys to my freedom.
I reach the door, hesitate for a moment, and then turn back to face him, hoping against hope that he will relent, that he will see the truth in my eyes. But he remains unmoved, his expression unyielding. I realize that I have no choice but to leave.
Then, he has a cup of coffee on his table, and I walked towards, feigning I wanted to speak to him when the coffee spilt on the table.
“I am so, I will clean that up!” Detective James leaves in fury as I got the entire table ruined.
“There you go!” I grabbed his phone as he was not in sight anymore.
I hurried down the corridor, my heart pounding in my chest. I need to get out of here, and fast.
I can’t let Detective James keep me locked up, not now, not when I have so much to lose. I need to contact the syndicate, need to get their help. They’re the only ones who can get me out of this mess.
I reach the phone and dial the number, my fingers shaking as I wait for an answer. Come on, come on, I think, my mind racing with anxiety.
Finally, a voice picks up. “Yes?”
“It’s me,” I say, my voice low and urgent. “I need help. I’m in jail, and I need to get out. Now.”
There’s a pause, and then the voice responds. Sorry we cannot do anything for you.” They said and hung up the phone.
I hesitate, knowing that I am in trouble.
