Mia, s POV
What was I doing in this body of all bodies? Why did it have to be this particular body? Those were the questions that kept ringing in my head as I made my way to the stairs. I reached the stairs and saw Annabelle coming out of the kitchen. She flashed me a welcoming smile while I made my way to her with so many thoughts buzzing in my head. “We have to be in the living room,” she said and dragged me along. As we walked to the living room, I couldn’t stop thinking about the body I was in. If there were essential reasons why I would be in this body, I would do anything to find out what they were.
We arrived at the living room, and I noticed all the maids were lined up, including the guards, except for Simeon. “What’s going on?” I tried asking, but Ani told me to keep quiet, which I instantly did. We stood there for more than ten minutes before I heard the sound of her heels, coming from the stairs. I moved my gaze to the stairs and saw Lady Golden walking down the stairs with high shoulders. She walked as one who had the world under her feet.
“Bitch!” I muttered under my breath and looked away. She came down the stairs and proudly stood before us before taking the couch. “Can’t you pigs greet?” She asked furiously, and everyone quickly lowered their heads, but I didn’t. “You,” she spoke, pointing a finger at me, “Why didn’t you bow to me?” She asked, her eyes fixed on me.
“My apologies, my lady. She is the maid who has been unconscious for two weeks,” Anabelle quickly responded before I could speak, and I was relieved. With my anger boiling, I might have said something to her that would reveal my identity. Lady Golden gave me a disgusted look before saying, “I will let you go unpunished because of your illness,” and tucked her hair behind her ears.
Everywhere remained silent for a moment before she spoke again. “I called you all here to set her rules and regulations,” she said and got up. ” I won’t condone any form of disrespect from all of you.” She spoke while walking before us with a stern look. “As you all can see, there is only one lady, and that is me. The other is just waiting for the cold hand of death to take her, and that would be really soon….”
“How dare you?” I heard his voice from the stairs, sending cold shivers down my spine. I was anxious and eager to know if he would recognize me in a different body. We all watched him storm down the stairs while holding the gaze of Lady Golden. The furious look in his eyes was scary, but this wasn’t the first time I had seen him this way.
“Take back your words,” he ordered the moment he stood before her, while we all stood and watched. “How dare you say such things about my mate and wife!” He yelled, causing all the light bulbs in the sitting room to explode and causing everyone to flinch in fear, but I didn’t. I was shocked and stunned by his words and reaction. I wasn’t expecting him to get this furious at Lady Golden’s words.
“You all can leave….” She tried discharging us, but he ordered us to stay by his hands. “They will stay and hear you take back your words,” he muttered those words as a declaration while I stood and watched with dumbfounded eyes. Firstly, he didn’t recognize me, and secondly, why would he act this way towards her?
Now!” he spoke in a low tone, but the fury in his voice was palpable. I watched her hold his gaze for a moment, and without being told, I knew they were communicating telepathically. She held his gaze for a moment, and a big frown appeared on her face as she moved her gaze back to us. “I take back my words,” she murmured and left while I stared at Alpha Ricardo, who was seething with rage. “Get me a glass of water,” he spoke to no one in particular, but everyone looked my way, which bewildered me. “You are his personal maid,” Anabelle whispered, bringing me to my senses. I was his personal maid, and I had completely forgotten.
With a gulp, I hurried away and made my way to the kitchen. I retrieved a bottle of water from the fridge and a separate glass. I placed them on a tray and scurried back to the living room, only to find that all the servants had already left. I scanned the room and realized that he had also left. “He should be in his room,” a guard said when he noticed my confusion.
“His room,” I whispered to myself and ascended the stairs. As I climbed the stairs, numerous thoughts buzzed in my head. I didn’t want him to notice me yet, and I sensed that there was a reason I was in this body that I needed to uncover before my true identity was exposed.
I arrived at his door, knocked, and waited for a response. After a while, I heard his voice from inside the room, gesturing me to come in. With a deep breath, I grabbed the doorknob, opened the door, and entered. As soon as I entered, my eyes fell on my lifeless body lying on the bed, and I had to muster all my strength to compose myself. I stared at my body on the bed and felt tears welling up in my eyes, ready to trickle down my cheeks.
“Leave the tray on the table and go,” he said without looking my way. Instead, his eyes were fixed on my body. With a gulp, I made my way to the center table, placed the tray on it, and stood. I didn’t know what to say or do, so I just stood there and gazed at my body. I hadn’t realized that my body was in his personal room. I thought it was in one of the guest rooms. I never imagined that he had placed me here, but why would he do that?
“You may leave,” he said, but I spoke up, “May I stay?” I asked, and for the first time, he looked my way. He had a furious expression on his face, but the moment he held my gaze, I sensed his eyes softening.
Without uttering a word, he stood up and walked over to me, while I nervously gulped, praying he hadn’t discovered anything unusual. He stood in front of me and held my gaze, but I nervously looked away so that he wouldn’t suspect anything. “Have we met?” he asked with a questioning look. “I’m a maid here, so you must have seen me around,” I quickly replied, so he wouldn’t have any doubts. He remained silent for a moment before releasing a heavy sigh. “You were the maid she healed,” he murmured and walked away.
His words confirmed my suspicion. Indeed, I had met her. She was the maid I had healed a few weeks ago. “Stay with her,” he said, and with those words, he vanished, leaving me with my body.
With a sigh, I walked over to the bed, and without thinking about my actions, I sat beside my body and took my hands. Tears blurred my eyes as I stared at my lifeless body. A bandage was wrapped around my head, and my face looked pale, as if I were just sleeping.
“Hey,” I spoke, tears streaming down my face. “You will be fine, and I will come back to you,” I promised, placing a tender kiss on my forehead.
“What are you doing?” The angry voice of Alpha Ricardo startled me. I turned and held his gaze, which was filled with fury. He held my gaze for a moment and then walked over to my body. “I thought you wanted to end her life,” he murmured as he sat beside my body and tenderly kissed my forehead, leaving me dumbfounded.
Something was definitely wrong, and I needed to find out what it was. Alpha Ricardo was acting strange, and I knew he wasn’t putting on an act for me. Why would he put on an act in front of a maid?
“My Mia,” he whispered, leaving me even more confused.
“Please come back to me,” he pleaded, totally ignoring my presence. “Please come back and shout, yell at me, tell me how much you hate me, but don’t die on me. I hate your silence,” he continued, almost breaking down in tears, not minding that I was standing behind him and watching. This was the first time I had seen Alpha Ricardo so fragile and heartbroken.
“I miss you so much,” he whispered, sending shivers down my spine. How could that be possible? Those questions kept buzzing in my head as I stared at him looking at my body. He stared at it for a while before releasing a soft sigh. He got on his feet and looked my way. The moment he saw me, a nervous gulp went down my throat. He held my gaze, and I could tell he was surprised to see me still in the room. “You’re here,” he spoke as he made his way to the tray of water on the table.
I watched him empty the bottle before fixing his gaze on me. “Are you my personal maid?” he asked, and I nodded. He moved away from the table and stood before me while I took a step away with a gulp. “As my personal maid, you cannot discuss what you see. If you do, then consider yourself dead,” he threatened, but I knew he wouldn’t kill me even if I did.
“I won’t say a word,” I responded, but my voice sounded odd and different. No matter how hard I tried to sound like myself, my voice would eventually end up sounding like hers.
“For your good, I hope you don’t,” he said and sat on the couch while I stood there, not knowing what to do. “You can go. I’ll send for you when I need you,” he added, signaling for me to leave with his hand.
I stared at my body one more time before leaving the room. As I got out of the room, I leaned my back on the door and composed myself for what was happening and what I was about to face. After a minute of composing myself, I left the door and took the stairs to the sitting room. But halfway through, I met Lady Golden’s personal maid waiting for me on the stairs. She wasn’t a servant in the mansion, but she had followed Lady Golden to the mansion.
“My lady wishes to see you,” she said, and I furrowed my eyebrows, confused about why she would want to see me. “What for?” I asked with a frown.
“You’ll know when you meet her,” she replied, and I remained silent, contemplating whether I should answer the call or not. But then I realized that if I didn’t, it would make things worse for me.
“Lead the way,” I said and followed her.
We took the stairs until we got to my room door. The moment I realized Lady Golden was still in my room, I felt angry but decided to compose myself and hold an expressionless face. We entered the room and met her seated on the couch with her legs crossed like a queen. “You’re here,” she flashed me a welcoming smile, which I found devilish.
“Have a seat, Beatrice. I have an offer for you, one you can’t refuse,” she said while tapping the sofa beside her for me to take.
